Hi Toni - the bread looks lovely, I close my eyes and try to imagine a whiff of freshly cooked bread. Yes I included the drill adapter because I knew it would be hard to turn by hand. Now Mark can get you your own drill, lol. I’m glad you liked it and hope it gives you many years of service. I noticed one of your subscribers mentioned doing the initial grind on a looser setting, then putting it through again to get the real fine grind - this is an excellent idea - when we were young that is exactly what we would do when grinding wheat berries for our mom. It helps to save on wear of the grind stones and crank.
@Harriet and @Toni What an awesome gift! I can just smell the fresh baked loaves as they come out of the oven! Takes me back to when I was a kid.😉 @Toni you might want to pin Harriet's post. It'll sit at the top of the comments that way. Cheers!
Thank you Harriet for a great gift to Toni. And, a gift to us, as well. We'll be getting the benefits of the videos she does, as she incorporates the mill into her kitchen operations. Again, thank you from all of us.
congrats on your new Wonder Mill Jr. I found that if you run your wheat berries through on a looser grind stone settings and then take the whole thing and grind it through on a tighter setting and then once again grind it all through on a tightest setting that you can do, it's easier on your arms and the machine. People have stressed and broken their hand cranked machine and stones by putting them on the tightest setting first. I found that tightening it down incrementally causes less stress on the machine and the stones.
I just bought one and that info will come in handy! I don't like keeping my stuff nice and not having to purchase things over. I hope the one I bought is actually a good one. Wish I'd seen this earlier lol
@@HerHomesteadSkills You are very welcome. Gotta save the machinery, the arms and the table it's clamped or bolted to as well!!! Enjoy your Wonder Mill
Ohhh, one more suggestion, if you have an old pillow case or a large plastic bag, or something like that, you may want to cover your Wonder Mill with it. It keeps the dust and things that fly about the house out of the chamber, screw and the stones. Just like covering a sewing machine, serger, or any other machine that you don't want 'things' to fly into. We have cats, so we have to cover ours up to keep the flying cat hair out of it.
Harriet you are so very generous! What an amazing way to give such joy! Tony cannot wait for more videos with your new toy. Show us how and why you like the mill. I am stocking berries but have not purchased a mill yet. How exciting
I've had mine for just over a week and ABSOLUTELY love it! Another hidden benefit is the workout that is involved when milling fine flour. Turning that hand crank will rival ANYTHING you'll find in a gym. If you have a membership you will not need it after a few rounds with the WonderMill!
My husband took a old treadle sewing machine table he found at a flea market and attached our mill to it so I don't have to hand crank it and its still non-electric. Having a mechanic as a husband comes with lots of perks. 😁 that was such a nice gift!

That was so nice, it warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes, I am so moved when someone does something so nice, it helps me realize, there are still good people.
Every time you bake bread, I want to see you cut it! Do tell us what the texture was like. I've watched other cooks on RUclips using their own milled flour and they had to adjust their recipes.
Such a thoughtful person to send this to you.. so happy for you.. your bread looks delicious and beautiful.. making bread is so much fun.. I love doing different flavors.. great video thanks
I'm very happy for you! I saved up and purchased the Wonder Mill Wonder Junior Handmill with an upgrade to the plus. I waited many months for it to ship. Now, I need to try it out!
Hi there, exciting you have your junior wondermill! Please let me know if your junior grinds the flour fine enough. I'd like to buy one, but it's dependant on whether the flour comes out like cornmeal or like flour.... Take your time but please let me know the results! Thank you. And happy grinding!!
I invested in the Wondermill hand crank unit for times of power outage and also the Wondermill electric for other times. Wanted both bases covered and I can always give my kids the 2nd unit (whichever I don't want). Also bought loads of wheatberries when they were cheap. One can never have too many preps.
Congratulations on your new mill. THANK YOU Harriet for your kindness! Looks like you're going to have fun experimenting with whole grain breads along with a host of other items. A FWIW.... You may want to order separate stones for coffee and spices, as you may not want those flavors to combine with the next grain that you grind. Tip: Try a coarse grind first. The hard part. Then, pour the results back into the mill and re-grind to get the desired result. Also make sure that if you use a drill, use one of good quality. And *take your time* . Generally, electric drills aren't really designed for long continuous use. They can run hot and fail, if pushed too far. Especially the smaller and least expensive ones. I'm looking forward to seeing your upcoming (I'm sure) experiments with your new mill. Enjoy the journey, my friend. God Bless.
Thanks for the idea of separate stones for the coffee..and until then, i will continue to grind my coffee at the supermarket...although ...hmmm...coffee_bread anyone ?

This looks lovely. It reminds me of that book, The Long Winter, by Laura Ingalls, in which her Ma used a coffee grinder to turn wheat berries into bread during a winter that snowed them into their tiny house until the end of May. They had to twist up hay to make the "logs" to heat the house and cook the bread. I have long thought that if I bought a wheat grinder it should have a manual option. How was the bread?
I have a grain mill simular to that. And my instructions say to run the grain through a loose setting 1st to just cracked it, then run through again with tighter setting as many times as needed.

Beautiful loaf of bread. I have several bags of wheat berries without a grinder lol, cart before the horse, but I have have plans!!!! Does the bread taste better with fresh ground??? Is there much difference in fresh versus store bought flour?? I love it.
It was good, I used Hard red wheat berries because that's what I had...and the same recipe that I have used to make bread in the past, however i did add some of my store bought flour as the dough appeared too wet...It's still a learning curve for me ...so much to learn!!!!
@@HerHomesteadSkills Thank you. It’s a learning curve for me, too, and I’ve also been using the hard red. I recently ordered some other grains but they haven’t arrived yet so I haven’t tried them. Just looked into the price and that's a whopper! I just bought one for under $50. I hope it actually works now. I may return in after seeing this. I wonder if mine will even have different grinding levels like fine, med, large.
If you got one of those Corona type grainmills, you grind it with several passes. 1st pass cracks the grain, 2nd pass grinds it course, 3rd pass grinds it fine.
