🎵 Handel - Zadok the Priest (Coronation Anthem) // Pipe Organ Sheet Music

- Today is 4th May 2023 - two days before the Coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023. I wanted to find an organ solo arrangement of this piece (which is synonymous with the Coronation of the British Monarch) but couldn’t find one which matched my own personal requirements. Queue an idea for a new arrangement!
This arrangement is available to purchase from www.beautyinsound.co.uk
In arranging the 1st of the 4 Coronation Anthems, Zadok the Priest, I have tried to strike an agreeable balance between the orchestra and choir. The orchestra doesn’t merely duplicate the choral writing but is often quite independent. Including everything would be impractical and in my view wasteful.
The infamous passages in the 3rd movement 'God save the King' containing many 3rds have been omitted because they become quite muddy when playing quickly and with a full organ sound. Of course, also they’re blooming hard!
I have decided to omit any registration suggestions simply because this piece is so incredibly well-known that we’ll all have our own ideas on how to register it. The original manuscript is available on the British Library website, and it’s interesting to note that the 1st movement starts with the direction ‘Soft’ before indicating ‘Loud’ at bar 23. It’s therefore safe to assume that a crescendo through the introduction is authentic.
Much love and dedication has gone into this transcription, and I hope that you are able to seek as much enjoyment from playing it as I did from creating it.
Long live the King!
The organ used for this recording is my favourite sample set - the Surround version of Dudelange by Voxus. Epic!

Goosebumps. Bravo! England, Scotland and Wales, land of my ancestors. Proud of my heritage.
Виват Генделю за такую мощную и прекрасную музыку...
The organ is the invention that turns pure air into music.
An historic time. Here’s to the Coronation. 🇬🇧
Mag-nif-ic-ent!!! I rather want to get crowned myself now…
from America - what a remarkable rendition of that great music. Thank you
Long live the king! indeed.
Fantastic arrangement, Richard ❤🤍💙
Wow that build up to 1:55 mins was breathtaking. Must have been foot triggered stops.
I've never heard such an amazing rendition. 1:23 jump in volume just hits you; Hairs on the back of the neck
👏👏👏👏👏well said!
God save the King! Long live the King!
Oh Richard! I've been waiting to hear your rendition of this classic forever and you delivered a masterpiece! Thank you so much@😊❤❤❤❤
Brilliantly performed
Wow! This is spectacular! Congrats on this stunning arrangement! Happy Coronation!
Astonish quality of recording. Really nailed on the whole spectrum.
What a fantastic arrangement (and immaculate performance!) - Bravo Richard!!!
Thanks for your purchase of the music - I look forward to your performance 😃
Awesome 💐🇬🇭
Oh my goodness! Such an amazing rendition, Mr. McVeigh. Would love to hear you play this piece on the magical organ of Blackburn Cathedral (which I believe is one of your favourites)
🇬🇧God Save The King. Long Live The King. May The King Live Forever.🇬🇧 Cracking performance, Richard.
Until the score of Zadok that I ordered from Europe arrives, this is very interesting for me as a soprano vocalist. Much in performance I simply can't distinguish separate lines - while your organ score makes it very clear what is going on in the piece in terms of singing.
You might think that I am crazy but I love watching your footwork while you are playing. Very fascinating. Love Zadok the Priest. BTW, colorful socks. (lol). Don H Ocala Fl USA
I love watching all organists' footwork! (I grew up not far from you, btw: DeLand. Great there are other organ music lovers in Central Fla!)
Excellent transcription and performance, Richard! 🎉
Quite moving rendition of this piece by my favorite composer of all time.
What a Fantastic arrangement of this wonderful piece by the Master of English choral music from the Celebration of the British Golden Age!

Truly admirable performance, illustrious Maestro. Best compliments.
Beautiful performance. Wonderful arrangement.
This is the first time I've been recommended this song. I just now realized that this is the intro song to the movie Saltburn!!! Your preformance on the organ is beautiful and this is definitely one of my new favorite songs.
Beautiful!
Brilliant. Thank you, from the colonies. Do you know/work with/follow at all, Anna Lapwood? Amazing that you are both from the UK.
Yes, she played for me here at BIS early last year. Well worth watching, and easy to find 👍🏻
Fantastic arrangement! I think you strike a very good balance here. Thank you for sharing with us.❤
Brilliant organ arrangement! It is a wonderful anthem to sing.
This is so beautiful, well done... From Nairobi 🇰🇪
MAGNIFICENT!! Richard, you have arranged & performed a sterling tribute of Handel's mighty "Zadok the Priest" to the new King Charles III Coronation! CONGRATULATIONS to all the UK!

Holy cow that rocks ! Thanks for playing this masterpiece Richard
Magnificent
Wonderful, excellent, marvelous for this historic occasion.
Stunning!
Glorious! And long live King Charles!
Watched it for over 3 hours. There was a lovely lot of music. Everyone who participated will be very worn out today so it's wonderful to have our own organist with highlights. Thank you, Richard.
Wonderful thankyou
Beautifully presented!
Love it Richard
15/10!! May the fourth be with you!
I may or may not have played that at Romsey Abbey tonight! 😉
Bravo! Magnificent performance! Well done!😊❤
Thank you for this beautiful arrangement - majestic
Wonderful! Quite spectacular and moving! Glorious music for a glorious day. 👑 Thank you.
it is a most fitting and appropriate piece - I love your soft subtle opening and then it explodes with a torrent of sound "God save the King" A great piece to hear today.
Very beautiful! Bravo, Richard!
Prächtig und großartig , wunderbar.
Wow
Magnificent .. Vivat Rex Carolus!
Whom is going to play the actual organ for King Charles's coronation at Westminster?
Richard has already "nailed it", here on Hauptwerk. This is rather a convenient welcome relief, as I will be busy at church this Sunday afternoon, washing dishes for our congregation.
At the coronation service, the organ at Westminster Abbey will be play by Sub-Organist Peter Holder and the Assisten-organist Matthew Jorysz.
Wonderful rendition of this magnificent piece by Handel.❤
WOW
Tuba miralibis is really incredible!
The crescendo took me along!
Amazing!
Magnificent, thank you Richard ❤ 🇫🇮
Splendid, Richard! 👏🏻
Fantastic Richard! Green withh envy too!
Beautifully voiced, arranged and played!
Absolutely love this piece and the organ is played with perfection.
❤ That‘s a great act of Art.
Yes foot combo stops and below-manual buttons to combine 2 or 3 keyboards are what gives an organ its mighty power
Splendid, Richard!
THRILLING !!!
Love it!
The Greatest Piece of Music Ever written and BRILLIANTLY PLAYED❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Grand, elegant, and regal. Thank you.
I was a pipe organist as a young cocky sod but this!!!...- this mastery and this glorious instrument---- wow !!!
Absolutely fantastic!
Love the pedal!
The music for Royalty has always been my ultimate favorite. Nothing else comes close. Very uplifting and inspirational!
Simply Superlative!
I know we hear it with an orchestra. But the organ sounds so beautiful, there is nothing like it. The way you play it takes you up through the clouds to heaven. Bravo sir and thank you
I love how it builds!
Thank for this good Peace. God save the King
Yes, yes, love this, you earned my sub, 😺🇨🇦♥️💖💕💞❤️
Wow! Wonderful
Fabulous ❤
I swear to pay true allegiance to you and all your heirs and succesors according to law...
Congratulations, wishing you a successful reign.
❤have sang this with my choir, absolutely love it!
Gave me the chills :)
Sublime. Thank you!
Quite simply stunning x
Thank you! 😊
What a fascinating instrument! And you played it beautifully, preserving separate lines. Once I have the written score together with your performance, everything will be so much clearer.
tbh i waited for your arrangement since the death of the queen
Check out that Tuba.
So nice Finale bravo!!!
Glorious sir! Vivat Rex Carolus!
This is so good, extraordinary clarity and definition!
Beutiful x
Amazingl 👏👏👏👏
This was great. I love Spanish reeds and Paul Fey is amazing. I did not care for his hallelujah chorus. It was not regal and very treble. Paul Fey is the finest young organist going. I would like to hear the hallelujah chorus again with a regal and grand sound. He never fails on every occasion. Maybe it was the organ. However he is the best gift to a post COVID generation that organist have.
... so help me God. 🕯🙏❤👑
