    I was once in a flight with Zeba Bakhtiyar and I have no connections to the media industry but she still talked to me so kindly and in a friendly way. This was around 6-8 years back and I was a child so when we took photos, she made me sit on her lap. I was pleasantly surprised because you don't expect such behavior from a superstar. :)

    Amina when you say Mehreen Syed has the height / figure to carry the outfit I don't understand why the reverse can't be true for someone else ..,that someone is wearing a dress thats not flattering their body. ...Alizays dress was making her look shorter and wider and I think it's ok to say that. 'She's just 21' can't be a justification for all her shortcomings,really. Also there are very nice short haircuts too...hers is a particularly unseeming cut that you could comment on

    So I am putting my hands up in defence here. I was born and raised outside Pak, I wear the hijab (by choice). I have never in my life met any nation or people so obsessed with clothing must and must nots as the Pakistanis. I mean, brings me back to my teenage days when girls were obsessed with this. But most people then grow out of this. Pakistanis go on to obsess as what to put on their children in front of other Pakistanis, what to put on their children in front of non-Pakistanis etc. Same for themselves. Obsession obsession obsession. Funny how we say live and let live, yet we are so obsessed with superficiality that it consumes our every day. I seriously could not live like this. Thank you Allah for showing me the way. Keep me guided and my offspring too. I would feel failed as a mother if my children were so consumed with their looks that their entire outlook is on appearances. I rest my case.

    • @samraz6958
      @samraz6958 3 года назад

      True that! But there’s a reason for this. Textiles is Pakistan’s biggest industry. Almost half the employed population is probably somehow or the other related to this industry. Hence clothing is a very significant part of people’s lives.

    • @Hippieheyhey
      @Hippieheyhey 3 года назад +4

      @@samraz6958 Yaqeenan! Lekin most of Pakistan’s population (and I do not say this in a condescending manner) who work in textiles factories and associated are not the ones obsessed with it, unn k liye tou woh bus roti rozi hai. What excuse does the rest of the population have to microanalyse and be so very obsessed with looks. I mean at least children we should leave alone. Let them be comfy and play in clothes that are functional. Also, we as a nation should be more into sustainable fashion than celebrities etc then! Let’s set the tone for the rest of the world. I’m a Pak fan, truly, with origins in Pak (no denying that, ever) 🇵🇰

      @hippieheyhey our clothes are an extension of ourselves. Its ok if someone can't afford good clothing, but purposefully ignoring one's appearance is NOT a healthy trait. Even for worship, we are required to don our good clothes. The fact that we Pakistanis are so concious of our dressing is something I regard very positively, AlHamdoLillah. Its a trait that helps in influencing people.

    It doesn't matter if celebs wear revealing clothes. They can wear what they want but it should have style. Like Urwa's dress was western too, but it was classy. Simple and elegant, designed according to her body type, and her makeup+hair+jewellery were on point too. While Alizay's look was a whole disaster. That gown was not made for her. Completely ill fitting. Sonya's neon suit was another flop. Her face in the pics made it pretty obvious she too was disappointed in how the suit turned out. No wonder she photoshoped and retouched her ig pics so much. And then there was Aima, whose makeup and hair were on point but that dress was so plain and boring. Ahmed Butt's wife was the only one wearing a modest outfit but that too was hideous! Most of these celebs need to fire their stylists already because the lack of style is getting out of hands! Looked more like a circus than an award show.

    • @teadrinker1260

      Highly agree. Even traditional dressing needs a specific styling to look good. No one in our industry knows how to carry Western or ethnic outfits.
      Urwa looked good, cuz the stylist knew what would look good on her body.
      Also long hair with Alizey's black gown could've worked a bit. But again her dress was just hideous.

    Everyone saying that Alizey is just a kid is such a lame excuse because Iqra Aziz is also 23 year old kid who is such a mature performer. Hania Amir is also of same age. So please call out Alizey Shah for being bad and lazy performer. She is plain bad. Age has nothing to do with it

    • @drama_world_blog
      @drama_world_blog 3 года назад +4

      If alizey is a kid, she shouldn't be working. These k pop idols start training at around 12-13 and debut at around 15-16. They are extremely responsible and respectful both towards their fans and their cultural sensitivities. No one ever says that they are children and are allowed to do whatever they want. Their celebrities are held accountable and thus they have the most decent celebrities.

She has directors who trust her and repeat her. So that's the difference. A lot of us are just kids till our mid 20s and then there are other who have a whole family and children by 23.

    • @drama_world_blog
      @drama_world_blog 3 года назад +2

      Iqra worked hard to make those 'good friends' because she doesn't come from an actors' family as well. What Pakistani actors need are agencies that can represent them, train them and take care of their public persona. True, age is just a number but alizey has her mother and her brother to guide her who are definitely older (and hopefully wiser) than her.

    The other thing with India is things like dresses and gowns are fairly common in India. We see people wearing it in weddings, malls, restaurants, offices etc. Indian culture is a mix of a lot of elements and that shows in the awards with a mix of dresses and saree as Amna rightly put. I love how Mahira Khan dresses up, it is often relevant to Pakistan and is also modern at the same time. The silhouette chosen by some celebs was also not very flattering on the body types and if western looks were the inspiration, the outfits should have been atleast inspired by latest collections or seasons.

      Indians have the same heritage as of ours. Its just that they never isolated themselves from the rest of the world, they adopted western culture and never gave up on their own. The thing with us is, we're okay with men wearing western clothes on a daily basis but cannot accept the same for women. Men in Pakistan wear eastern only on eid or fridays, no? What makes India different from us is, they have exactly the same standards for women as well ... i know some Indian girls, they wear eastern clothes only at weddings, diwali etc. looks like, our problem is hypocrisy not obsession with our culture or derision of other cultures.

  • @teadrinker1260
    @teadrinker1260 3 года назад +73

    These celebrities think that wearing our cultural clothes means going to a walima. They literally will wear the most over the top lehengas and then say they aren't modern enough.
    Western clothing is meant for certain body type. The black gown Alizey Shah was wearing just wasn't made for her. The upper half of her body is healthy and needed something that suited her body. Sonya Hussain's suit also was a diaster. The silver vest under neon blazer looked loose and wasn't fitting her chest at all. Another thing that was just weird was the goth style makeup. It's summer, can't they play with the colours or try a new style for once?
    Only Urwa Hussain's white gown looked good, the white floor length gown with green Pearl necklace was a good match and she served the look well.
    There are so many neat and classy, kurta shalwar\frocks and gowns\lehengas\sarees that can take it up the notch with minimalistic makeup and jewelry. But no, gotta look like our reception is happening or we are at met gala.

    Since I am not interested in the ‘ landay ke Kapray’ of the celebs at the hum style awards, I want to talk about Dhoop ki Dewaar. It’s a beautiful, sensitive emotional story with impeccable performance by Ahad Raza Mir as a 19 year old. It is based on a similar death/tragedy on both sides of the border being exploited at national and at personal level. The media exploits it playing the patriotism card, and relatives exploit for personal gains. The impact is falling on the 2 teenagers, ( played by Sajjal and Ahad Raza Mir). Faced with sudden problems at a tender age , they are able to relate with each other and show empathy towards each other, supporting and helping each other in whatever way they can. Ahad Raza Mir is impeccable as Vishaal, who is taking care of four emotionally disturbed women, his mom, grand mom and two small twin sisters. It’s a lovely character showing him taking charge of duties as a son and a brother, at teenage. ❤️

    I was really disappointed with your point concerning the skin show. It is not about bashing someone or calling him/her insults. The skin show issue is so big, because it goes against Islam and at the same time our Pakistani culture. The freedom point, that its between them and Allah is not true. These celebrities influence millions of people, and they bring Western ideas and norms into Pakistan.
    Also, in Islam there are precise guidelines on what to wear and not to wear. #HumStyleAwards cannot be compared to Filmfare or Oscars, because almost all celebs here are Muslims. Why is it not allowed anymore to call someone out for their mistake? Being muslim means to be convinced that all Islamic guidelines are perfect. So if wrong concepts are promoted, can't we even call it out?

Our duchess Kate Middleton when she visited Pakistan again she was fully covered no skin was bare she even wore shalwar kameez. Why? Because they know in our culture showing skin is not accepted. There were many good looks despite the skin show. But I am happy that this debate has started. As you guys said, no one should push the cultural values and religion is ofcourse the most important aspect. Secondly, celebrities are representatives of Pakistan and people have made them their stars and they expect them to represent who they actually are but I feel many celebrities are stubborn in this regard. I believe both the trollers who abuse and the stubborn celebrities are at wrong. We must find the balance. Secondly, I am very fed up with "Don't judge" culture, yes no one should but the audience have right to make criticism as well the right to not accept certain things. Celebs should consider this difference and take things positively, as well. So, you might look beautiful along with skin show but it's not likeable in this country and people would get hyper. I guess Celebs should get little modest and conscious in their choice of dressing. But indeed, they have right of freedom and choice but they would remain in radar, due to their status. And as Amna said, it's possible. In respectful manner, they should be discouraged for this.

      @Huda Tariq On point. I agree. We are unfortunately forgetting that preaching and guiding is one of the major characteristic of Ummat-e-Wast, which we are. There's a right way to do this. But in this "Don't Judge" culture people are not even taking right criticism. They think it's all about character assassination. Wrong would remain wrong and one has to call it wrong. And it's not just on personal level, our film industry is also promoting such trends and unfortunately these are same production houses, which are running the TV industry.

      You guys really need to be less opposing of things that make ''you'' uncomfortable, you're uncomfortable seeing a lot of things because you've been raised in a closed society. To say the least, someone else's choice of clothes shouldn't bother you -- I for example and many other liberals are against the idea of wearing double layers in hot countries but we realize that it's the idea we need to criticize, not a certain individual. We would never make anyone wearing a burqa feel small, or discriminate against them. Conservatives on the other end do not take anything into consideration. And, ur country's constitution doesn't define any dress code as a Pakistani dress code, or any dress code as an anti-pakistani dress code; there's no way you can tell ye dress Pakistani culture ko represent karti ho, aur wo dress Pakistani culture ko ruswa karti he. FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, LET TOLERANCE BE OUR CULTURE AND DO NOT TRY TO DEFINE MORAL AND CULTURAL STANDARDS FOR ANYONE EXCEPT YOURSELF.

Dior’s latest tarot collection (inspired by the Middle Ages and tarot cards) resonated more with the South Asian regal era than any of the red carpet looks. Why can’t our celebrities and designers pair up to come up with looks embracing the Mogal era with a modern twist. We have the history and skills but somehow red carpet is always a let down :(

    By stopping video in middle I would just like to appreciate amna that how graciously accepted that yes there should be some changes in dress like color break or what ever... When I saw amna it wasnt the case that she was looking bad,, but she was looking less good ,,,she looks more pretty in theses RUclips videos like today... Or itni fashion sense or critique amna ko sun sun K hi hmary andr Ai h TBH 😂😂...otherwise we love u amna..thing I most like about her is her confidence and how comfortable is she in her skin ... You were looking super cool. Amna keep rocking red carpet always .. Lots of love.

    Deep down we all know that ALLAH DOES NOT ALLOW US TO DRESS LIKE THIS. I'm amazed how the critiques emphasise on the word "Cultural norm" instead of saying that it's not allowed to dress like that in our religion. That's what our Prophet ﷺ said that sin will be so normalised that it won't appear as a sin anymore. Totally disappointed! Whoever is coming at me should know that they are objectifying the words of Allah and HIS prophet ﷺ
    NO, I'm not a moral police, a halal police, a "is this Islamic Republic of pakistan?" comment-er. I'm just a Muslim like all of you reading this who just is here to remind you about the truth.

    the point is, an award show by a TV channel which runs dramas shown to the general public and masses of the community, the same general public and masses were not ready to see the characters that they see in dramas appearing so easternized would suddenly take a 360 degree turn and appear westernized, it was totally unrelatable to general public, hence the outburst was going to come ..

    • @aliya_aqeel
      @aliya_aqeel 3 года назад

      Exactly they need to westernize the dramas as well if the celebrities are gonna dress like that which I guess they are kinda attempting to do but the effort is too slow paced like 90% of the content is still sahs bahu bakwas and misogynistic rhetoric

    People can not respectfully disagree; perhaps this thing is not being thought in our school and colleges that how to argue your point with logic and respect. One time on my channel, I said, "Misbah is cricket Buzdar"; in response, people called me all types of different names and even questioned my parent's marriage, lol. But guess once you put something in the public domain you need to have thick skin. About Amna's look, she should have something white to contrast the black, just my opinion but I'm the last person to say anything about style lol. About nudity, look man, people want to wear anything at a private party let them do it who cares. But once you are in the public domain you need to follow norms. You really do not need to push every single boundary. Our icons should inspire people, by wearing clothes people do not appreciate, who they are inspiring; no one looking at them in India and for sure in Hollywood. Kawa challa hans ky chaal apni chaal bhi bhool giya, I guess.

    Her opinions are exactly what was wrong. People are upset not because these actors were not dressed to the culture, they are upset because their clothes were un Islamic. Why are we trying to make this a NORM??? This women is tottaly out of her mind. She just focused in on culture not religion.

    • @shazhammad4361

      If you talk about religion then showbiz and religion don't go together...we should not be even watching these award functions..

    • @truthalltheway6791
      @truthalltheway6791 3 года назад +2

      @@shazhammad4361 you can do award functions, just like millions of other things we do in our country and as individuals that are not Islamic. but without dirty clothes. In our religion we are not allowed to wear revealing clothes men and women. And that is the only reason why most of the Muslims around the world included pakistani don't wear dirty revealing clothes. Otherwise if it was allowed in Islam no one will complain about it. We will all wear it. There has to be a limit. There has to be some boudries. Pakistani TV have been the greatest in the past, with out all this kanjar khana. Most people on TV dressed up modestly and dance and dirty dressing was limited to films. But still wasn't appreciated by common man. We need to stop making excuses and take a step bro. Peace out

    But can someone explain why style equals western to many of our celebrities? Honestly some of the gowns looked ill-fitted or straight out of 90s.

    Honestly I didn't liked any of the female celebrities outfits not because that they were skin showing but it was badly designed..and somehow it didn't look good either. Here in India Bollywood celebrities wear western clothes from famous foreign designers..I mean if pak Celebrities really wanna stand out from everyone else they better start wearing something traditional bcz that's what they're good at. Again no prob of them wearing western if that's what they are comfortable with but atleast wear something nice. I've seen Mahira & mawra wear gowns that are so beautiful . Yeah that's my two cents and you can take it w a pinch of salt
