    I always have this ax with me on my tours. The weight is between a heavy forest ax and cambing ax and is therefore ideal for all work. The country where the ax is forged is my home and the Harz is a region that has always been characterized by deep forests. Wolves, wild cats and luxe live here, because we still have German primeval forests in the Harz Mountains. this ax shape is a result of traditional craftsmanship and the slanted head ensures that it also cuts when pulled. costs half as much as Swedish axes, but offers the same quality. about 70-90 euros in Germany, but difficult to get because they are constantly sold out.

      Thank you for your comments. Yes, the Oberharzer Axe is a well thought out design and should work very well. Good to hear you have such wild animals in Germany, we have Black Bears, Bobcats, Cougars (Mountain Lions) and occasionally Wolves and Moose. Lynx maybe up here, but I have not seen them. Hopefully Bison increase their productivity and do not increase their prices like many Swedish Axe Forges have. Best Wishes, WS

      Thanks! there was little mention of it on RUclips, so I thought it was a good idea to bring it to the attention of the community. Yes, the house has been a major undertaking, hopefully I will open up the 20 acres more this year, level some areas, make trails and accumulate a lot of firewood in the process.

    Great review mate. I will look into these axes they look pretty decent.
    Hope you are keeping well and warm over there. Funny how we both seem to have decided that northern England is not cold enough 😂

      Hi Tim, nice to hear from you! Yes, we have headed to colder climes for sure. We are doing OK here thanks, just spending a lot of time at home with occasional social contact. As per norm, mechanical equipment regularly breaks down at the lower temperatures, ATV snow plough, tractor then my truck! I hope you are coping with the long days and heavy work schedule.

      Greetings Kelsie!...thanks so much for subscribing. My aim is to put more content out this year now that I have almost finished building our home. I am pleased to hear you find some of my content interesting. Hopefully my future content will be more diverse. I do a lot of tree clearing and firewood prepping here, but I am also into wild and medicinal plants too. I don't want to make too much footage of our house, but I will do a vid at some point about the challenges of building a house in such a location and the solutions I came up with. Yes, I have about 50 axes, but quite like the Bison, they are sold by Lamnia.fi website. Best Wishes, WS

    Nice!....i want one...LOL...Howdy Chris happy new year my friend.
    Last year i picked myself up an HB Akka...a bit on the light side with it's 1 1/2 lb head and rather slim 23 or so inch handle.
    I am however pleasantly surprised at how well it performs...makes for a nice pack axe.
    Its good to see you again!!!...Dave

      Hi Dave...likewise, great to hear from you friend! I hope all is well with you and have dropped by your channel a few times to see if you have posted. Yes, I have many axes but will use this one when limbing this summer. I think the new range of HB Axes are very good, overall. I almost bought the HB Aby 'Forest Axe' but it was $60 CDN more than the Bison! I hope you find time to put more RUclips vids out this year. Take care, WS

    At last, I found decent axes! Check out the Muller Biber-Canada , on Ben Scott's review here on RUclips! That Bison and that Biber Canada from Muller, may be a bit different axes, but for my needs, bith fit the bill! The Biber-Canada has the best chopping performance, I've ever seen! It bites so deep, that it's almost all the head in the wood and it's head is long, which made my jaw drop when I saw that! Check Ben Scott's video! Hope yoou're doing well sir! Bison makes really good and very robust axes!!!

    I cannot find this axe in the USA. bison's website is the only place, but I am leery ordering directly and am not sure they will even ship to the states.

    • @redcanoe14

      I hope you can find a dealer who ships...I believe a company called Woodcraft in the US is a stockist.

  • @paulhomsy2751
    @paulhomsy2751 2 года назад

    I believe you're right handed, if you switch hands on the shaft, the left hand at the end (bottom), you'll find a lot more control when bucking. The hands should be on the shaft like a golf club or a baseball bat. Right hand in the upper part (closer to the axe head), sliding to the left hand. This way you wont get any wobble and bouncing which you're getting too much of in this video. Try it, you'll be more precise and eliminate the wobble. The left hand doesn't intuitively control the torque, the right hand does. Vice versa for a left handed person. The axe you're using is excellent.

    Bison axes come in @ $60 cheaper than Helko axes yet seem to be otherwise equal.
