My X2HR version has removal pads. I would pay the extra monies for the HD600 no questions asked. The HD600 slaughter the X2HR in every way possible except soundstage.
@@TheHonestAudiophile There has been several revisions of this headphone. X1 line, x2 line which had the most revisions and then the newer x2hr. I would agree that the x2hr is not a great headphone. I would be very wary of this headphone because there are many bad apples around. My brother bought it and I told him it did not sound like my original x2 and to get rid of it (later model with removable pads). In fact I believe the x2hr is based off the original x1 or early x2 (that z reviews did). I only got to try a few songs since it's not my pair to play with. But the bass is a lot more to the point where it's bloated/boomy and there is also a little bit of distortion and the control is loose. Mids sound more muffled/nasal/grainy and recessed and treble is more elevated and it sounds more airy and more sound stage. In other words it's tuned a lot more v shaped then what my original x2 were. The newer shp9500s also has a similar problem as well but the change in sound is not as much it just has a more muffled/grainy sound is the major problem with it.
@@retroericreviews8828 Interesting. I haven't heard any of the other Fidelio gear. The X2HR didn't make a good impression on me. Thanks for the information and personal experience.
@@retroericreviews8828 X2HR is based on X2. Same line, just a newer revision with minor build differences. Phillips can't specify what has sound-wise changed so it interesting that many claim to hear differences between X2 and X2HR. Might be a lot of units around that do not sound right as at least the original X2 had quality control issues.
@@deggis4 My experience is that I have had 2 different sounding headphones. My original x2 had none of the issues I posted above in the sound summary. It's the same concept when people talk about differences in sound with a hifiman or audeze revision (same line, but some changes have been made to make them sound different). My bros x2hr is a lot similar to what z review reviewed a long time ago, and it's not that great. While my older x2 does not match that description (bass head and lots of sound stage).
Dude, there were a few moments where I thought you were gonna cry. Don't sweat it. Real men cry. Especially over disappointing and/or frustrating audio experiences. Still, I have a question: While you certainly shouldn't have to, with a decent set of headphones, I was wondering if you tried mitigating some of the sound issues with equalization. Also, did you use a dac/amp set-up...and, if so, what kind? I am rather a layperson (certainly with headphones and all the additional gadgetry), but, following a reasonable amount of research, I just ordered The X2HD's, and they're on their way. You have me afraid. Yes, very afraid. I also ordered The Fiio A3, since it has a good rating, price-point-wise, and it's all I could afford at this time (...`Guess I won't need the "bass boost"). I did all of this after returning a pair of Sennheiser M2BT's (for reasons I won't go into), and, so, I'm hoping I won't have to do the same with these. My only hope, if they suck as bad as you say they do, is that, because I'm a layperson, I won't know the difference, and they'll sound great. `Sorry they didn't work out for you. Be well, and thanks for an honest appraisal.
I did use many a different setups. My current setup is somewhat different. I honestly don't recall that I had but I am sure I had the Monoprice Monolith THX AAA 788. Fiio A3 looks like a good simple device. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Difference between IEM and over ear is hard to explain. IEM tend to be more direct with detail portrayal and over ears tend to be more inclusive. Over ears tend to have larger soundstage presence and size.
Hi david good review..honest and to the point. Would these cans be suitable for movies in your opinion. I already have a set of hd600 and am looking at something to compliment them. Something with a bit more soundstage and a less neutral balance. soundstage and imaging between soundstage would be important as well as a bit of bass. Thanks Dave

How are you Sir.. Damn I just ordered the Sennheiser 599 :( Could have tried these.. BTW Asgard 3 is a kick ass amp.. Aune was like blown away not even a competition.
@@TheHonestAudiophile nope not at all Aune is like 4 out 10 for me and this one is like 7 or 8 far more open. Those thumps and soundstage is amazing. I don't know after few hours the sound has opened on this amp.

U nailed this review...honest...to the point...both in sound and fit quality, or lack thereof. Kinda wanted this to be a great bargain set of cans...thx for being honest!
It should be noted the pins that hold the heavy ear cups to the headband are made of plastic and will snap at the base of the ear cup. this is not covered under the warranty by philips. beware, or you will have an expensive paperweight.
Sometimes I listen to music with these headphones and they blow me away, other times I feel unimpressed and lightly fatigued/. Ive EQ'd the trble a little which made an improvement. They are primarily my gaming headphones though and for that purpose i highly highly recomentd them, especially if you have a big head. The sound stage is huge, and the imaging great. A good mix of bass and positional awareness, they are fun and functional. Not boomish like "gaming headsets" and not bass anemic allowing the mids and highs to provide maximum positional awareness. Basicly the best of both worlds. There is no one headphone that does it all, but if youre looking for a gaming headphone primarily then this is the one to buy. I dont think there is anythinh better at their price point or even quite significantly above.
400i is more comfy, has more defined and detailed bass, mids have more body and treble is more refined with better detail resolution, not as harsh. Soundstage is slightly wider on X2HR but depth and layering is about the same. 400i has better tone and timbre as the X2HR sounds more unnatural .
I bought a set of these when on sale. The reviews were great and the price was good enough that they were worth a punt. I tried them on my iPad and was not impressed. I tried them on my iPad via a Dragonfly Red and they were much much better. I tried them on my Yamaha RN-803D and Denon AVR X3400H and they were still not doing for me. I was about to purchase some Beyerdynamics but before I did I thought I would give them another go. Plugged them back into my Yamaha RN-803D, put on a mastered and lossless George Michael album via Airplay but this time pushed the amps Direct Source button. Saved myself couple hundred pound! These things are transformed. Yes, massive soundstage but the base is way less muddy and just about spot on. The mids are full of presence and rich and the highs are beautiful and not tiring. It just shows that with these types of headphones, you need a flat, as recorded source. Oh and they just get better the more you crank them up. I agreed with all you said until now 👍
@@TheHonestAudiophile Hello there, I have a SoundblasterX G6 and I wanted a great pair of all-round headphones to pair it with. If you use a computer as a source, you could use a high quality EQ app or if you use JRiver, you can EQ slightly and get the precise sound you're after.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Yes definite, but I was implying that with some minor effort, one could still have this headphone and work through some of its shortcomings so it may not be a deal breaker if one wants to do that.

Two totally different sound signatures. Elex is immersive, , detailed, bright and clinical. The Edition X is laid-back, detailed and chill. I love both and recommend both but they have totally different approaches of presentation.
Never use these with pleather of leather pads. It ruins the sound. The best option I tried was larger Brainwavz XL velour pads. Since they are deeper the ears don’t touch the fabric moved by the driver bass like the stock velours do. I regret ever putting pleather ones on them. Now back to larger velours they actually sound good to me

Absolute nonsense, I had three different DACs and several different amplifiers, all the setups had a fantastic sound. It feels like you are describing other headphones in general

I am glad to hear that you have a different experience and opinion. Everyone has different ears and everyone hears things differently.
Don't agree about the mids. They're recessed only in comparison with headphones having mids pushed forward. Other than that, especially after getting used to, the mids are basically flat. They may seem like a bit behind because of the bass extention and prominant treble, but they really aren't. If they were vocals would be recessed along with it, but vocals are crystal clear and in fact very loud. The only scenario where I got the feeling of "lucklaster" mids was some type of songs that were mastered to be spcefically mid-centric type of deal, but it's not the flaw of the headphone itsels, it's the flaw of the cngested recording limited to given frequency.. Agree about the comfort though. Clamp force is almost as high as HD650 and the pads are being pulled up after a while making me readjust the fitting every now and then. The pads material is the worst I've never seen such terribe unpleasant dust and lint collecting material, it's good that at least it's a memory foam.

I've owned quite a few headphones by now, the only real blunder I made was getting the FX2. These headphones are awfull, there are many clueless positive reviews out there by shills and deaf people. Honestly I think they suck for gaming as well, there's just too much grain and uneveness in the treble and mids for cohesive spacial queues to me. I say no to these, and yes to subscribing to your channel.
Do you have any suggestions of good headphones below 200 euros? With a low impedance, especially if the price is near 200, because I don't have an amp. If they are too close to 200 euros, an amp would exceed my budget. I have a big head, and these cans are incredibly comfortable
I still can't understand why Tyll liked the X2 more that the HD600. Did you get the version with the removable pads or the glued ?
Hi, im Looking for these or the HD58x, for listen in celphone (s10) spotify premium without dac/amp. Do you recommend any others in similar pricetag?

@@TheHonestAudiophile --- `Looks like I made a mistake with my comment. I ordered The K3, and NOT The A3. I still haven't received it, but I noticed my error while checking the tracking info. Oh well, if I had to make a mistake, at least it was one that left me feeling a little bit better (a rarity to be sure). I'll let you know what I think whenever I receive my order. In the meantime, take care.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
@@Newton14alan You get it?
@@confidentsalt3899 -- I did, and I like them a lot. My only complaint is they're a bit on the heavy side, but, sound-wise, I'm happy with them. Thanks for asking. Be well.

Question for you.
Would you say the hifiman Sundara is a better sounding and better overall headphone?
Yes, 100%, only thing that x2hr does better is stage width.

Hi do you have any suggestions for open back headphones that sound warm? I am not a musician to analyze music i just wanna have them for home music paired with 80ohm amp and premium Spotify, thanks.
These, the X2HR's. This guys got an odd shaped head and he can't get them to fit well which causes them not to sound good. If you've got a normal shaped head you'll love the X2HR's.
Hi Dave, what else would you recommend for gaming, that's better than the XRs,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I am not much of a gamer and don't really use headphones when I do game. I actually game mostly with IEM or speakers. Sorry I am not a good source for gaming headphones.
@@TheHonestAudiophile hey Dave no problem at all,I've used a headphone comparison site, and my Philips shp 9500's are pretty well up there for gaming, but I think I will get the XRs too as people have said it's nice too have both!

Hi Dave i want to Buy My fiirst headphone and for now i don't have the money for get an expensive one. Do you think the sivga that you mentioned at the end of the review wiill give me a better experiencie than the ssr/ea1 gives me ? And What's difference between hear music on an iem and an over ear ? 🤔
Difference between IEM and over ear is hard to explain. IEM tend to be more direct with detail portrayal and over ears tend to be more inclusive. Over ears tend to have larger soundstage presence and size.
Hi, can i ask you a question? i have the x2hr but all my friends suggested me to change the wire.. Is the wire so bad?
In my opinion the whole headphone is bad. So I guess that includes the cable. X2HR is not on my recommendation list. Sorry.

Thanks Dave
I honestly can't recommend the X2HR. I would recommend the Modhouse Argon or the 1more triple driver's. If you want to go cheap go with the Koss porta pro.
How are you Sir.. Damn I just ordered the Sennheiser 599 :( Could have tried these.. BTW Asgard 3 is a kick ass amp.. Aune was like blown away not even a competition.
Awesomeness 👍 Is the Asgard3 a warmer tinted amp like the Aune?
@@TheHonestAudiophile nope not at all Aune is like 4 out 10 for me and this one is like 7 or 8 far more open. Those thumps and soundstage is amazing. I don't know after few hours the sound has opened on this amp.
@@Goryglory0209 That's awesome to hear. I am glad you are loving the Asgard 3.
Do you have any discomfort from using them with glasses?
Yes, I wear glasses and they're uncomfortable as mentioned in the review.
Never tried open back headphones: Is the sound leakage too much? I mean, will they disturb people around you trying to sleep?
Depends on how loud you play your music and how close people are around and how loud the environment is that you're in. Open back leak in and out. It for sure will disturb people trying to sleep if their in the same room.
U nailed this review...honest...to the point...both in sound and fit quality, or lack thereof. Kinda wanted this to be a great bargain set of cans...thx for being honest!
You are welcome. I so wanted to enjoy the X2HR but they just never got there for me, disappointing. Thank you for the kind words.
It should be noted the pins that hold the heavy ear cups to the headband are made of plastic and will snap at the base of the ear cup. this is not covered under the warranty by philips. beware, or you will have an expensive paperweight.
Good information, thanks for sharing. But in my opinion the X2HR is an expensive paperweight regardless of them being broken.
Thanks for the impressions.
How do these compare against the 400i
400i is more comfy, has more defined and detailed bass, mids have more body and treble is more refined with better detail resolution, not as harsh.
I agreed with all you said until now 👍
I am glad you have found a way to enjoy the X2HR.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Hello there, I have a SoundblasterX G6 and I wanted a great pair of all-round headphones to pair it with. I'm extremely confused between the Fidelio X2HR and TYGR 300R, I don't know which one to choose so I was hoping that you could help me.
Here are my requirements:
First of all, I don't care about competitive gaming (multiplayer/online fps) at all.
I only play single player, story-based games (like God of War, Red Dead 2 etc) and I also like watching movies as well.
So basically, what I'm looking for is *IMMERSION* above all else.

I'm also looking at the Hifiman Sandura. They're $400 here in Canada. Any thoughts?
I haven't heard the Sundara outside of HiFi meets. I wasn't a fan but again that was based on very limited time, to me it sounded cold and boring. I would like to get a pair in for review so I can get a proper opinion and comparison.

If you use a computer as a source, you could use a high quality EQ app or if you use JRiver, you can EQ slightly and get the precise sound you're after.
svtcontour that works for the end user. But does not for a reviewer that is trying to objectively talk about the devices sound.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Thumbs up! I agree both are really good.
I confirm. The headphones are very heavy and you can feel the pressure of the headband.
Never use these with pleather of leather pads. It ruins the sound.
The best option I tried was larger Brainwavz XL velour pads. Since they are deeper the ears don’t touch the fabric moved by the driver bass like the stock velours do.
I regret ever putting pleather ones on them. Now back to larger velours they actually sound good to me

can you review the shp9500
Thanks for the suggestion. I will see if I can get one in for review.
