They didn't save 10,000 people. There are 50 silos that each have a capacity of 10,000 max. They probably placed people from around the world in each silo when the nuke dropped and the populations grew over 100s of years. I'm assuming the reason they built 50 was to have a backup on top of backup in case multiple silos don't survive, then the human race is still able to rebuild once the outside is safe again to go out. Maybe they planned to observe each silo and pick the one most suited to rebuild society in the end so the "safeguard" is there to prevent one silo from corrupting the rest and destroying the entire human race before they can rebuild outside..
Very good thomaskunz... But I think certainly a "reset" of a silo is impossible. Who would be hauling up/out 10k bodies and setting up a "starter silo" of say 1500? Where would THEY come from? Why didn't they reset Silo 17? Rather than gas a silo, couldn't they trust the nanobots to end any rebellions like outside Silo 17? And are "The Legacy" and "The Algorithm" the same? These are the things I need to know.
The safeguard is a form of control. It ensures no one leaves and that the residences don’t disrupt the overall purpose of the silos (submission and order).
The map indicated the Safeguard was on level 14.

The logic behind the safeguard makes no sense, at this point. I hope the showrunners will explain it well.

@ No one is getting hauled out. Once a silo fails and dies out or gets gassed it goes dark and becomes vacant like 17.
