Makone, correctly reminds us that the Apartheid Laws did create racial boxes. The worst was the Immorality Act. I once saw an Indian man getting punched by the Police because they had caught him with a white woman. The 'Black' volume of laws was abolished because it was 'racial. To implement BBEE the government may have to use racial categories. A means test may be better. The IRR have fought the racial classification laws for many years. Keep up the fight.
The ANC government had 30 years to implement their BEE solution to apartheid inequality. It’s time to move on. Race should be irrelevant and not even mentioned in the laws of our country.
BEE has never been racist. The constitution protect us after 1994 against practises that are based on slave tactics, called racism and discrimination and lynching and jungle justice harassment. You will find that within the ANC, a high standard of investigating alleged corruption was present. Look at the Sunday newspapers,, no stone unturned to have it followed up from the side of the ANC. People misused this if you ask me, to trample them on this aspect. Point is this, formal lawful activities are of major importance for ANC members. There ain't jungle justice harassments. They take the bull by the horns. There is absolutely no sign of slavery, or lynching or harassment tactics that is coming from them. It is Sunday newspaper scandal or nothing. Honor is a great factor to this regard in my opinion of the ANC. If you don't know where you stand with someone, and you get blacklisted, you might have suspicions that you have been lynched. There are several of these slavery tactics that gets kicked under the carpets by Afrikaners who still think that it is a new democracy and they too have protection to still support and honor these old apartheid era ideas. I am boer and I will "#&$?" is still a running attitude one find amongst Afrikaners. And they don't have the right to do this because it is part of their tradition. It is against the constitutional rights of individuals in SA to be a traditionalist like this, or then, unlawful to be like this.
The is no one south african identity. The country is too diverse to just have one identity. Ppl will also see the differences in other groups. These differences make each group unique. Race is simple to define in the south african context. White :a person who European decent, looks European. If any random person from outside south africa looked at Nicholas, they'd say he's white. Black person In South Africa :is a person of bantu origin and is culturally connected to the varying bantu language speaking tribes. Indian : a person descendent from the Indian subcontinent. Coloured :a person of mixed heritage. This group genetically is made up of the khoisan, bantu, European, south Asian and South East Asian genes to varying degrees depending on the individual. If we remove race how would we keep track of the population? R we gonna revert to ethnicity, language or wat?. Removing racial classifications won't change anything in society.you know that someone is different culturally and linguistically from you just by looking at them.
Racial classification is irrelevant. Home language matters, especially from an educational point of view. Mother tongue education is crucial in the early years. We have 11 official languages and many more indigenous tribes. That’s division enough.
Ate we not too focused on the classifications that took place, missing tne probkem in the story, why was classifivation a problem? Everything in life works on mathematic principles that make life easier for humanity. But now come afrikaners, they also want to do classification and science, adding their superior beingness into the process which was therefore influencing the classification process to levels that were not doing justice even to science or mathematics.
Actually, the presence of good and evil range across all races no matter whether white, black, blue, pink or yellow so actually in life there should be no race classification.
South Africans are divided along tribal lines, voting patterns prove that. Only the DA has a diverse support base. Ideally racial classification should disappear, race is irrelevant. I think strong tribal identity is here to stay. Preservation of language and culture will always be important in South Africa.
Good question! If you can self identify as male or female (or anything in between), then you should be able to self identify as the race of your choice 😊
Racial classification was not created under apartheid but rather by the British settlers even before they arrived in South Africa . The term black was created by the British . This woman is uninformed and should not be speaking about things that she knows nothing about . Shame on Nicholas Lorimer for allowing her to talk rubbish on his show and I will now unsubscribe from something that I formerly respected .
No, the British did not use the term Black. The term used was Natives. In South Africa, the indigenous tribes were first called Natives, then Bantu or Africans. The indigenous people referred to themselves as Africans. Hence the naming of The African National Congress. Later the SACP used the word Native as in “A South African Native Republic”. In 1910, the South Africa Act was passed in Britain granting dominion to the White minority over Native (African), Asiatic (mostly Indian) and “Coloured and other mixed races”.
General Louis Botha, the first Prime Minister of the Union, introduced the policy of formal racial segregation. It wasn’t until the National Party came into power that this segregation became known as apartheid.
After the National Party gained power in South Africa in 1948, its all-white government immediately began enforcing existing policies of racial segregation. In addition, these race laws were passed: The Population Registration Act of 1950 The Group Areas Act of 1950 The Pass Laws of 1952 The Separate Amenities Act of 1953 The Bantu Education Act of 1953
The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act (no. 55 of 1949) was one of the first pieces of apartheid legislation enacted after the National Party came to power in South Africa in 1948.
Like a whiff of fresh air in a stuffy room. Thank you!
Looong overdue!!!!!

Nicholas, Hermann and Makone are The Daily Friend's MVPs.
Reverse racial laws

Only racists! Drawsup racist laws! BEE!

Makone is very articulate.
Hey Makone Thanks for the effort (common sense ) keep it up.
Redress for what though?

What does it matter?
Racial classification is irrelevant.
Home language matters, especially from an educational point of view. Mother tongue education is crucial in the early years.
We have 11 official languages and many more indigenous tribes.
That’s division enough.
Although we live in a multilingual, multicultural society, I think that preserving language and culture will always be important in South Africa.

Can matriculants become black to get accepted in a medical faculty?
Good question!
If you can self identify as male or female (or anything in between), then you should be able to self identify as the race of your choice 😊
I agree, true freedom in a country means you are be able to self identify.
Tired of race politics. Please government just do your jobs.

Do you feel exonerated for apartheid now?
