Just got back from a "peace of mind" check up with my hip surgeon since I hadn't had a check up in 9 years. My total hip replacement was done way back in 1998 when I was 35. Still doing great & I've always work & play on it everyday.

In 2018, June of that year, I had my right hip replaced with robotic direct anterior. I was in the hospital 2 days and rehab 4 and 1/2 days. I literally walked out of rehab without a walker or cane. Never used one of them again. Fast forward to Jan 1, 2023, and I know my left hip is going to get replaced soon. My surgeon that did the right one retired during Covid. Bummer. I do have an appointment with Hip Doctor that has lots and lots and lots of anterior replacement experience and is certified on the robot. That appointment in Feb. 7th. I'm looking for another one to interview as well. Joint pain is a PAIN. Happy new year!

I'm from Astoria Queens but have lived in southern Virginia since 1981. I am having right hip replacement with the anterior approach on July 14th 2020. I can't wait because I am in a lot of pain now and require a walker just to get around. Thank you for all the excellent information in this video. I'm anxious to get this started so I can resume my retired life and next January (I've had three surgeries in past 15 months so after this hip I'm going to take it very slow) I can begin playing Pickleball again.

Very timely video - I am having a replacement on 9-28-21 and was a little anxious. It has been 18 years since my left hip was done. Pain management was my only problem last time, as I am sensitive to most pain meds.

Right hip done June ‘21. Left hip done October '21. Anterior approach with robotic assist (Stryker) 5-6" incisions which might *seem* long, but if it helps my doctor see better, I don't care. Almost NO incisional pain, used ice pack a few times & no narcotics. Anesthesia was a big factor in mobility ( too much in June). I was going up /down stairs on day two after surgery in October. Minor numbness and swelling that have mostly resolved six weeks post op.
I'll be swimming laps again in three days. I've already been playing tennis (carefully) and pickleball.

Excellent, well done. How about a re-make in a sound studio? The hospital beeping was distracting.

I think doing it in the hospital is more time efficient for these undoubtedly very busy surgeons. Besides, I actually preferred the authenticity of the hospital environment -- to me it made the presentation more engaging.

Make a record of the exercises the therapist teaches you. Your real progress begins when the therapist sessions end and you are on your own and you commit to a daily exercise routine.

What do I do to get an appointment with the correct surgeon to have surgery on a hip replacement with one and one half inch lengthening ?

  • @ObamAmerican48

I just had anterior on my right hip three weeks ago (Colorado, Denver area). Procedure done on a HANA table; it was pretty interesting watching the surgical team strap me in until I drifted off into sedation vacation. Pain easily controlled with acetaminophen prn, incision healing well, swelling down from large softball size to golf ball size. I pulled a groin muscle about eight days post-surgery, that slowed me down a bit. Still having discomfort if I sit the wrong way and when I'm driving. So far, so good. Anxious to get back to work. I'll be 61 years old in a couple of months.

I would like to get checked out there but many of their surgeons do not take Medicare, had an intertrochanteric fracture 4 years ago, they pinned my hip and I have problems with the device and very little motion possibility, used to be a ballet dancer and would like to exercise and stretch more.. 🙏.. Am a senior.. 🙏🙏.. Would love to know whether something can be done, have pain as well... 🙏🙏

Great. Since you did not need to be in surgical room would have been better to do this is a quieter and less echo environment. Audio is as important as video. I'm an AV professional and it is sad there are lots of YT videos that are spoiled by bad audio. Capturing/recording images has been easy for many years, but capturing/recording good audio has been difficult since the recording industry was invented. Anyway, very nice that you took the time to make this video. 👍
