such a simple idea but so powerful. always have forgotten the volume level and have been caught loving or hating the sound many times when all it really was , was a volume difference and not the effect itself.great advice on this one
I knew this option but i used only one time, to be honest i was too lazy for another gain staging on my mixes, but thanks for showing how difference does it make, i woke up today with the mission to gain staging all my eqs on all ements of all my songs!
I would better trust to my ears instead of meters. Boost low and meters 'll go crazy, where you won't get actual loudness as such. But I like very much what you do. You're a great man!
It's like the most basic parts of a mix, the setting up, levels, pans, eqs GAINS etc are the most important. And to bear that in mind with every plug in.
Nice one, thanks for that! We are self releasing all of our material at the moment and it's tips like this that make it possible to get the best from our music.
The EQ shape that moves as you move up and down the gain had me thinking your changing the dB of those bells and shelfs at say 4200Hz or 1360Hz with the movement the of the shape even though the dB stays the same if you catch my drift ...just to double check the gain fader on this EQ is just a volume like same as the track fader that this EQ has been inserted on
So the link for the balance sheet takes me to a page that requires me to give info about myself (which normally isn't a problem when I am offered something for free) but then it instead takes me to a video that has absolutely nothing to do with EQ or mixing. How do I get my "FREE balance sheet PDF"? Thanks.
You bring the specific frequency down, then you want to compensate by boosting all frequencies up.. So you actually boost the unnecessary frequencies.. I am not sure it’s a good trick.
No. He mentions this at the end. Simply put if you eq something and you're happy with the result but feel that there is too much of a volume increase/decrease, then adjust the eq volume accordingly. Volume increase of 3dB = adjust eq volume to about -3dB. Sometimes just the eq changes work, but this is yet another tool for you to use. It basically adjusts the gain around the curves you made.

Glad it was helpful!
And today I also googled how to find the LUF meter in Cubase! Nice one.
this was extremely helpful.. I am sooooo guilty of this.. Wow, thanks for the awareness, this is amazing.. Incredible information young man..
That’s the difference between day and night..... thank you so much
thank you so much ,excellent Mission.

Wow thanks. I probably needed this. I always have to cut frequencies and I try to add gain with a compressor instead but that isn’t the right way.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, what an epiphany, thanks a lot! 👍

Excellent video, never really thought about this before! Can't wait to try it!
always good to get a reminder on basics !

Fantastic! Happy to help.
Thank you , this is a very helpful tip !
I knew exactly what knob you meant when I read the title, but still I always forget it when mixing 😅 Thanks for reminding me!
Actually this makes perfect sense. Good advise. Cheers.
Always great tutorials Dylan. Tks
What do you think of FabFilter pro Q3's autogain?
I have the same question
7:00 yo that actually caught me off guard wow!!! i'll make sure to gain stage my EQ from now on!! thank you!

So does this apply to mixing bas you honor final mix down?

Knowledge Bomb. Thanks
Any time.
You metering now perceived volume human ear notice LUFS what about peak level. How it changes? Can I just put gain plugin last and change gain?
Can I do this with the Waves FT6 EQ ? 😅
Who is the musical artist? I definitely want to hear more!
This was a real tip and trick! Thanks man.
It's good video tho i think before even you compensate the volume it really sounds great. It was so muddy and it becomes clear.
I needed to see this. Thanks!
It's funny because the other night this exact same idea hit me with EQing and the EQ gain.
Can't I use the track fader afterwards?
Am I kinda crazy if I come to these videos to see the warm light and decoration in the background of his room?
Very cool - thx for posting.
Thank you.
Great video!
Question? Couldn’t you throw on a gain plugin after the eq , new to audio engineering
Absolutely, that's another way to get the same effect, but if you have a gain knob on your eq plugin, that's a good way to save time.
Then you would have to bypass 2 plugins (the EQ and the gain/trim) instead of one (your EQ with built-in gain/trim) to do your A/B comparison.
Very cool
Good info you have new follower from Panama thank you
Welcome aboard!
Is turning up your mixer volume after EQing without eq gaining the same thing?
You want to gain-stage WITHIN the plugin so that the gain-staging is gone when you bypass the plugin.
Interesting video.....
How did you do the EQ gain stage on struggling on studio one 5 myself
I love this channel, keep rockin !!
I thought everyone did that...been doing that 20 yrs! Wooow!

I really need to do several top down mixes, I've been resisting it for long time for some reason.
Keep it up ❤️
So simple, so hard at the same time
Cool
🤔🤔👍👍..Very True...
I don't have any "volume" knob on my EQ.
So do i have to gain stage after every EQ? Really?
No. He mentions this at the end. Simply put if you eq something and you're happy with the result but feel that there is too much of a volume increase/decrease, then adjust the eq volume accordingly. Well i started a few weeks ago hahaha I know when clic this video!! 😁
Its in the little things Mann, Damm.
But hw we know the amount of gain staging, I mean how u decided to increase gain to 4 dB
5:25 🍾
A lot of Greg Kurstin logic sessions have this on
Hey
✊🏿
Why not just make your cuts less aggressive?
That's a lot of 4s
THANK YOU
