How to apply Grit or Texture to your Pickleball Paddle for more SPIN and what product to use - PART1

  • The latest craze for Pickleball these days is Paddles that have a rough or tacky face that creates more spin on the ball. This is done by paddle manufacturers adding Grit or Carbon Fibers to the paddles face. The problem with these paddles is that they loose their tackiness every time you play, which intern decreases the paddles spin rate. There are plenty of RUclips videos out there that measure spin rates on new and used paddles. So instead of buying a new paddle every month, I've found a way to apply grit to your used paddle face so that you get that spin back!

    If you mixed the grit with the glue that may give a more even application.

    After watching your video I was motivated so search for a spray paint with grit and found rustoleum anti-skid. I spray paint on one of my paddles and will see how it works come Monday.
    Might be another good option with just one process.

      @@2000thewomanit worked good and has stayed on nice. I did 3 of the 4 paddles and both me and my son get 0:02 allot of spin out of the $20 paddle. We kept 1 untouched just to see the difference and the grit makes a difference for sure.

      @@trefflek. This will make your paddle illegal in any tournament. The USAPA says you cannot have a paddle surface rougher than 320 grit sandpaper. If you want to add more grit and keep your paddle legal, just buy 320 grit sandpaper and sand it.

    If I don't use the gorilla glue will it look less glossy like yours. I am putting it on a black paddle and I was going to try it without the extra glue. I'm guessing it won't stay on as long but hopefully it is less noticeable?

  • @frank88ster
    @frank88ster 7 месяцев назад

    To 'hide grit showing, overspray with dark clours ( black, grey, dark blue, purple etc.) and another semi gloss clear / varnish? Heat gun over it lightly to dry out completely and try to see if 'modification' is visible? If it is, spray another dark colour ( lightly or peeling of paint will be visible).

    Thanks for a great idea! I wasn’t happy with the Gorilla glue. Wasn’t strong enough for me. I used Flex Seal rubber coating spray instead as base glue and finishing glue. Have to say it looks and feels much better!

      It's not a great idea, it's a dbag idea - it's basically cheating against your friends and playing partners. Don't be a dbag.

    How does the USAPA regulate the amount of texture the surface of a Paddle can have?

      ?? If you use sandpaper on your paddle, you'll make its surface smoother, not grittier.

    • @Pretzel86c
      @Pretzel86c 6 месяцев назад

      I don’t think that’s correct. Take 320 grit sandpaper and rub it on your wooden dining room table or any finished wood surface and tell me it’s smoother. To get a smoother surface you would need sandpaper with finer grit than what the surface currently has. Even then you would need the correct sanding technique and pressure to actually make it smoother.
