- The Honda Torneo is a sedan introduced by Honda in 1997, exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, derived from the Honda Accord. While the Accord was sold exclusively at Honda Clio dealerships, the Torneo was available at the other two Honda networks, Honda Verno and Honda Primo as the successor to the Honda Ascot and Honda Rafaga, respectively. "Torneo" means tournament in Spanish. The introduction of the Torneo continued the original approach Honda used in 1982, with the introduction of the Honda Vigor in offering a unique variant of the Accord, for each of the three dealership Honda sales channels with the sportier Torneo, utilising a different front grille, headlights and tail lights, and exclusive trim packages and color choices.
With the release of the seventh generation Accord in 2002, the Torneo nameplate was discontinued. However, the seventh generation Accord assimilated much of the sportier character of the Torneo, making it effectively the successor of the Torneo as well as the previous generation Accord. The car we are reviewing here is the “Euro R” version. It’s is exactly the same as the CL1 Accord Euro R other than exterior appearance
This Torneo Euro R cl1, accord cl1, cl7 and cl9 are all over the place here in New Zealand. Beautiful cars
would love to import one of these beauties.
I used to own a MY2000 back in 2010 for a few years in Christchurch - black torneo euro r. I put on a Feel's double muffler it was the best sound for VTEC i ever had
Here in the US I've never even seen one! Love this car.
@@ricardocuevas7815 someone in Georgia was selling a pretty mint one not long ago
ive noticed a big decline in the cl1 euro r's, and the ones ive seen are in pretty poor shape. i sold mine in 2016, still my favourite car to date.
Wow this is my first time seeing this car. Looks so sick tho
Lamperouge me too
It’s’ really pretty
I own one and I'm currently modifying it.
@@paradigmshifter0146 Don't hack it up! Keep the aesthetics clean, then post it online :)
I don't mean to be commandeering though; it is your car after all.
Still cheap 500000yen , legal in USA in 4 yrs prices will be million yen
Yup, I like slim sedans, I like slim cars in general. Nowadays cars are way too fat.
same, cars got way too big.
I know what you all mean but it's for safety standards.
@@benjamincho4819 Partly the case, but not really. Cars under 170cm in width are still for sale new.
@@benjamincho4819 yup, sadly, same with emissions, thanks to them cars consume more fuel and get less power.
Yeah I hate the lack of options for lighter sedans, I hate how big they've gotten
I owned a CH1 Accord Type R fantastic machine and one for the best looking Hondas. Only 300 or so left in the UK. 🇬🇧
I'm one of them 300 :)))
George Varteniuc me too
Don't let them go to the breakers 👍🏿👍🏿
I bet jdm importers would like to ship them to the US.
J T there’s just a handful for sale I’m pretty sure they would go for good money in the US
For someone that grew up driving ek9s and dc2s in my early 20s, and now in my 30s with two kids, my cl1 is the perfect car. Same 90s honda driving experience but space for the family and just a little more refinement. Plus, ek9s and dc2s are hard to come by now or rusty. I'm in the UK for reference
Do consider Integra GSR Sedan or even a JDM Type R sedan. all the fun from the DC2 with a good trunk and 4 doors.
How reliable has It been? I want to import one to the US within the next year or two. My first car was a 1998 Honda Accord and I always liked the Euro R.
Btw. I got my 1998 Accord to almost 300k miles. And It was still running when I sold It
I've also owned a fd2, and I personally did not get on with it. Sat too high, visibility is poor, and the k20 lacks character compared to b and h series.
Reliability is as good as any other 90s honda, only ever minor issues like brakes.
I did also consider a db8, but rust is a major issue on these same as dc2s, and I live near the sea in the UK.. About the worst place to accelate rust!
Very cool video. As an older Honda enthusiast, I appreciate the very thorough and detailed review on every aspect of the car. Especially a car that we in the US never saw. Showing the brochures is an extra treat as well. Keep up the great work!
I agree... Sick name by the way"gutted"👍
@@ALLCOMPTON thank you sir!
This is quickly becoming my favourite car channel on RUclips. I can tell that you guys are passionate about what you're doing. Lots of in-depth information about the best cars that Japan had and has to offer. Thanks for your awesome work!
We do know it...we just never get anything good in USA 😒
I'd happily trade a hundred of these and all the skylines you could ever want for a terminator mustang or gt350 or Z06 vette. We missed out on all the sweet American cars but got every JDM car, and it sucks.
@@zeroyon4562 ahahha we want the opposite. lol
@@zeroyon4562 done!
Lol people always want something they can't have
Honda did give us those amazing H22A VTEC Preludes though!
@@travr1131 had one. Wasn't bad. Loved the high revs and not bad handling

Shame. I think it's an RIP across the board

Please do a E39A Galant VR-4 in-depth review, I'm sure many would appreciate that too. I think that is the best Galant ever made by Mitsubishi from the late 80's to early 90's. :)
They really messed up when they got rid of cap. This dude really made this channel what it was. He’s wonderful just to listen to.
Got to know this sport sedan back in 2002, today it's still a beautiful beast. A true VTEC machine!!
Best 90's JDM car fan channel around. I love the explanation of all the technical details. I'd really like a Toyota Caldina GT-T review. Would be awesome if you guys could do that :)
I love that highly functional and simplistic interior. Really wish cars would go back to such design philosophies.
Brilliant, I'm in the UK and up until recently owned a CH1 Accord Type-R, a true FR killer :D, Love your channel by the way, doing God's work
I had a 1998 Torneo SIR-T about 10 years ago, very reliable car. Loved it
I drive my 2000 Honda Accord like the euro R
i own a cl1 accord euro r and found this pretty interesting, does a good job going in detail
About time to make more reviews on 4 door jdms. A review on the JDM DB8 integra type R would be cool
I had the Accord CL1 in UK about 9 years ago. I really do miss it. Regret selling it. I had the Mugen 4-2-1 manifold and Buddy Club damper adjustable coil over suspension and some other bits. Was lots of fun and being in the UK it was extremely rare! Also cool the smuggled genuine JDM plate starts with a 3 number too. I didn’t know it at the time but glad it was authentic and I still have those plates in my garage to this day 😊
Awesome review and info as usual.. no nonsense, just quality, best on youtube.. keep it up mate 🙏🏻🚘CL1 fan from NZ 👌🏻
@JDM Masters, please consider doing a series on lancer evolutions! Anything from 1-7 would be nice, in particular the most sought after models like TME, evo 1 or 3 or even the particular colors shown in 4-6 that were very different from Japanese traditional white and silvers. Awesome content, even when I'm not the biggest honda fan!. Great respect for allowing the viewer go beyond the badge and appreciate your amazing knowledge of cars!
5 minutes in and I said this guys know what hes talking about surprises I’ve never seen your page I love the demeanor and everything about this review so far idk if you drive it but I’ll find out in 10 minutes or so lol this is awesome keep doin your thang man
Everything we need to know about Toyota altezza please. Long live sir!
I second this and a manual modellista qualitat at that
@@divin3kag3242 I used to have a standard Qualitat, good car too. Only ever seen 2 Modellista versions around here in NZ.
Lol and also a toms 280t altezza if he finds one
@@alexmaknz same here in the bahamas only 2 here but im trying to get my hands on atleast one
Even here in japan it's so rare to find one.
Nice ive got the CL1 Accord EuroR, amazing cars.
Thanks for the revew. Enjoyd it 👌🏻🤟
Always love your review! Full of information that I never think about
Loved these and wanted one since Gran Turismo 4, now I’m about to get one.
I know I've said this a lot of times but I would love to see an Altezza review :)
Trash underpowered cars that only horry girls drive
@@atom608 yeah you're right, the Toyota engineers who were responsible for the AE86 and A80 are really bad and probably didn't even know what they were doing when they designed the Altezza, my bad
When are you going to review the long underrated but full of potential's Honda Prelude?
I have been following this channel for some time and I have to say you guys did a great job!your videos are very high-qualitied and the contents are amazing. However, I haven't seen any driving reviews recently. Not that I don't like the current style, but I would love to see the driving part come back! Appreciate all the hard works you guys do anyways
Great info, thanks for the video!!
Finally, a car that will accommodate my long flower pot collection.
These were everywhere in ireland in the mid to late 00's
The Euro Rs was Hondas way of showing how a 4 door front drive sedan can also be a sports car.look at all the features it got! And with the right mods, It can run just as fast as it's two-door brothers, and just as capable. The fact that they aren't stripped out doesn't bother me at all. Nor should you.Great review as always!
I watch the entire video. You earned my like and subscribed
Had one back in Jamaica a few years ago and I love it...a cl9
Yea there were a few nice ones in Jamaica. All ran down now I’m guessing
I own one in Jamaica and I get offers at least twice per week. Love it! Very reliable
Definitely a great car. I used to try one a couple of year ago and it was so great. As you said, not so sporty but angry enough for a small improvise touge. I finally bought a Gallant VR4...
But this test remind me... In the same generation, Honda used to do a Wagon version, with a H23 and... 4WD... A kind of Licorn as I only see photos but never in real 🤔
I had one of these! Used to own a 2002 Honda Torneo Euro RX. The last model before they released the CL7 Accord Euro R. I miss mine till this day!
I owned one of these while in japan. Genuinely the best car for the place ive ever owned. Im glad they never brought this to America, it never would have gotten the recognition it deserves. This car is built for daily reliability, and mountain twisty roads. America is mostly highways.
I owned one of these cars and i still miss it even to this day. I loved everything about it.
No wonder the rear looks different when i saw this car in the previous video. I was like is that an Euro R or what?
I need one of these. Love accords and this would be a great addition.
ım wating Mazda 323 GT-R review at this channel ı hope one day it will happen
Hope you get your hands on a bb1 honda prelude, very unique and awsome cars cool dash and some even had 4ws
Thank you so much for another great deep review of a classic japanese domestic car. Btw super clean example. This Torneo looks almost brand new by looking at the headlights. Awesome! Where do you always get all these nice clean examples from?
I often hear from a fact/myth that JDM cars are mapped for higher octane gasoline than the edm specific model of the car. Can you please reply to that question @JDM Masters
I’m going to buy one now! Can’t wait to have it shipped here to Denver, Colorado USA
Always loved this car. Wish I can get 1 over here to the states.
These are very common down in New Zealand, cool cars!
Just found your channel and am very happy. I live in Japan now and am thinking of buying my first car... and definitely thinking a CF4 or CL1. Now just need to convince myself that it's not going to be a massive headache compared to a Prius
Que increíble auto, el diseño de los 90 fue de lo mejor , romanticismo deportivo appealing 🇯🇵🔰🕹
The Euro R was always cool. I remember seeing a modded one in Hot Version years ago
This is making me miss my CL1 euroR accord
I still have mine...love it.. 😁
I currently own a CF4 Honda Accord SIR of this generation. Equipped with F20B Blue Top 2.0L VTEC engine. Great cars. Beautiful, subtle design shared with the Isuzu Aska
Finally! Finally! Euro R. Greetings from Russian Far East, Vladivostok
I saw a grey Torneo in the Race Service Watanabe page and fell in love
Fantastic review, to the point exactly in terms of explaining the euro r DNA.
Miss my euro r (my was an accord euro r same colour) had it for 7 years. Beautiful car with a special engine. If you own a tidy example don’t sell it!
This is a beautiful car man
Oh Yes!!!!
I'm a simple man.... when I see JDM Master, I press like
Especially Accord/Torneo Euro R
Nice! I believe there was also a 1.8 F block as well
First Time I know this car existed so cool nice review thanks
Just found this channel and love the vid!
Excellent overview. Well researched, well presented 👍
bought a 6th gen Accord Coupe EX as my first car a few years ago. Nothing beats the iconic NSX style rear lights.
it certainly isn't the fastest with the H-series 2.0L i4 SOHC VTEC but it's really luxurious
Thanks again guys great review as always would love to see one on the life and different variants of the Integra more as a sedan and the different models available such as the DB8, DB6 etc
Love these cars. Quite common here in NZ at one stage but a bit rarer now. I know 2 people that had the 99/00 Torneo SiR bluetop versions and one that had the 01 Accord CL1. My mate that had the CL1 crashed it then bought the CL7. Another friend currently owns an imported 06 Accord Euro but with the K20 160 hp engine, not the high revving Redtop. Myself, I own an 8th Gen 09 Accord Euro with the k24z3 engine. Come to think about it, most of my mates have had an Accord/Prelude/Integra/CRX at one point of their lives.
I know about this car already. My first car was a 1998 Accord Sedan. I want to import one of these as soon as I can. Just because It's very unique.
I really wish you would do a Honda prelude review! I love your videos
Love your videos man. Just amazing. Suggestion - Galant Vr4!!
u beat me to it. i'd LOVE to see an 8G galant vr-4 covered in one of his videos. always wanted one, but the best i could do in the U.S. was the GTZ.
@@colhapablap yes mate apparently they're known as the evos precursor lol with sedan and Station wagon versions haha
ah that's annoying I lived in UK and Hong Kong so I do see them as a rare sight every now and then, always thought they were cool looking
@@jonathanlai4202 yep, you could get the rally-inspired 6G vr-4 in the states, but not the 8G. the platforms were so different that a vr-4 conversion was pretty much out of the question unless you had money to burn. it just wasn't worth it. all models were FF, and they only offered a manual in the low-spec 4 cylinder model, which was a shame.
mitsubishi was really going downhill in the U.S. market in that era. UK/HK were fortunate to have gotten lots of JDMs that never saw the light of day in the U.S. i was so envious lol.
@@colhapablap ah I see! 😅😅
@@colhapablap We got the 8th gen galant and legnum here. I had a legnum vr4 for a while in the mid 00's, it was a rocketship for its time, but a massive pain in the arse to work on. Pretty cool car. If you came to NZ you could probably find one for less then $5k NZD these days, but finding a tidy one would be difficult.
This guys a beast with the details. That Honda looks like the toyota aristo
Really an interesting video and interesting car. You are really good and it is a very pleasure to follow you.
Please make a video like this for my favorite Honda ever... CRX VTEC my 90-92 EE8 version.
I am 25 and have owned a CH1 accord type r and currently own a prelude 2.2 motegi. I love hondas
May aswell try them all before they become worth too much
great video as always!! wish I didn't hesitate at the CL1/CL7 I had the opportunity to grab, great deals @~120km 10k/12k cad lot price. then almost picked up a sir-t. in the end, stuck with my ekcivic lol
Wow that Accord Europe version (Torneo) the look is more calm, tidy and low profile 😊
Most of the US model Accords in the 90s to early 2000s that I know of had a single cam F series engine. My cousins 1999 Honda Accord came with a F23A4 single cam
I'd love to see an in depth review of the DC5 Type R.
I had an Accord Type R. Glorious machine done everything well. Just the bulkhead/firewall is prone to rusting 😭. I would definitely have another one if it were in amazing condition.
I love it. I'd love to import one, my prelude was swaped with this awesome motor.
Great episode, love your shows. I would love to watch about Integras DC2...about differences between JDM and EUDM/UKDM models and differences between the headlights of those two models...
Can’t wait to get one of these imported to the US soon.
Oh we know...we get the crap in USA. Car is beautiful. Spent years building a wannabe version but nothing compared to that. Great video!
It looks VERY CLEAN.
I would love to import this car into the US. GREAT car. Love seeing this.
best sedan Honda ever engineered
i own a 1999 CG4 F20B5 and although its a 2 doors coupe with full leather interior designed as a highway cruiser it shares alot of similarities and i guess thats due to them both being hondas but still really cool, both very spacious and comfortable cars
I live in New Zealand. They used to be quite commonly imported. I had one in Milano red. It was a terrific car! I actually prefer the look of this slightly than the accord euro r
Euro R(efined) makes sense. I miss the boxy body designs of the 90's. I love me some Subie in those days. If I may, I would love to see a JDM version of the Subaru Justy. Love those cars along with the 510s.
Would love to see you find a Lancer Evolution IV to review. I enjoyed the Original evolution review that you posted a few months back. The Evo IV will be available for import to the United States soon so Im sure many others would enjoy.
I love it, it's Honda through and through.
Also the father to my CL9 08 TSX
I just love these.
Great video as always guys. I'd love to see your take and review on a ST246 Toyota Caldina, maybe even the N edition model if you can find it. 👍👍
Great cars I use to own one would buy another one in a heartbeat but they are hard to come buy in Australia
would be awesome if you ever get a chance to do a special on the 3 or 4g Accord!
as a married man and being 35 now, i think this is perfect for me. its between this, or 2003 mark x.
Thanks for the review, love it.
Dream car actually. My friend has one
This video gave me an itch of wanting to own one. :)
I love your content but I still haven't yet found a video of you speaking on the Accord or Toreno that had the F20B sohc VTEC... When you do that review please please tag me in that video please and thank you 🙏
New Zealanders know this car well still a few around in New Zealand as New Zealand is one of the largest buyers for Jdm cars and all jdm cars, since the early 90s because of a less restrictive market.
A review of a SiR del sol would be cool!
Had had one miss that car so much 2002 Honda Accord torneo
JDM Masters, I think you should review the car based on how it performs at this age rather than the constant comparison to its Type R Brothers. The Euro Rs was Hondas way of showing how a 4 door front drive sedan can also be a sports car. Lets not also forget that that European Accord Type R was the king of the sedan class in European Touring cars!! Its handling and good power to weight ratio made it superior to its rivals! Yes, it sits to the side among its track focused type r brothers but that makes it unique!look at all the features it got! And with the right mods, It can run just as fast as it's two-door brothers, and just as capable. The fact that they aren't stripped out doesn't bother me at all. Nor should you.Great review as always! Next time drive a tuned Euro R Cl7.
CL1 is arguably better than the CH1 Type R. CL1, lighter different 5th gear ratio, climate control and of course mapped on higher octane fuel. CL1 has a more narrow track though.
@@Mochachinoexfk The JDM CL1 had more power. But, it was also heavier too.
saradomin88 CL1 is in fact lighter, only reason it has more power is because it’s mapped on high octane fuel in Japan. If you could map the European type R on high octane then it would perform just as well!
