Not only did Shackleton keep his crew's morale up in person, but those left behind on Elephant Island never lost faith that he would come back for them. Several left instructions that when they died, they were to be buried next to him on South Georgia Island.

Shackleton also killed Mrs. Chippy the cat too. The reason he left for the expedition when he did is because his wife caught Shackleton having an affair with Elspeth Beardmore. He was quite the ladies man back then...

I hope between this and the Titanic we continue to get these interesting ships and vehicle kits. I don't have time to build "traditional" plastic kits, or wood ones, but a Lego kit scratches that same itch and make amazing display pieces.

@@brick_fanaticswell it actually wasn’t the Concordes fault, a Continental DC-10 left a piece of metal in the runway which popped a tire in the Concorde and blew up the engine causing it to crash. The only other “Crashes” were from a different Russian copy called the TU-204 (I think) which devastated its reputation.

I never bought the Titanic, because it feels too ghoulish having such a monument to tragedy in my home. But I am definitely getting the Endurance. It is an amazing symbol of discipline, hope, teamwork and courage. It's going right alongside my Pirates of Buccaneers'' Bay ship (in ship, not shipwreck form), Pirates of the Caribbean Ghost Ship, Ninjago Movie Junk (a great fav!) and Imperial Flagship on top of my Swarovski display cabinets.

In Hurley's defense, he dove into the sinking ship to salvage film and glass negatives which could have killed him. He also negotiated with Shackleton to be paid fairly for his work before entering the boat whereas others would have caved in. He took the best picture of the Endurance at night in 1915 in the middle of winter along with other fantastic shots. Remembering that Hurley was largely a self-taught photographer and came from humble beginnings being a proud Australian. He later became an official war photographer for the Australian Army during WW1 amongst other exploits.

As for your comments about Kallax - take out the uprights on the top row - take out either the middle upright or the other two uprights in the middle row - perfect for displaying then. Just can't do tall sets - but those sit on top [I don't display on the bottom two rows - have a pup in the house so use that for storage of loose bricks and instructions!]
There is one set which was built for Kallax though - Gringotts - the bottom part fits precisely in a Kallax cube!

They all died, and the show was a major influence so lego initially blocked my model. I had to appeal to them because they just didnt understand the history behind them before any fictional account. Actual hero explorers that circumnavigated the south pole prior to the Franklin expedition that got them killed. Unfortunately the model wasnt accepted due to some heavy handed judgement over another model i made.

hmm! Are those sails the same color as the ones from the Eldorado fortress? Because if yes, you could make something fancy for that with one of these.

I hoped the Endurance will turn out a bit more... realistic. As is, not bad at all... but not quite as fantastic as I hoped for. And now I'm on the fence about getting it.
I really hope that after the recent AC75 America's Cup Technic set, Lego perhaps explores the sailing yachts more. Something like the original America that became the namesake of the regatta or perhaps J-class Endeavour.

Does anyone know the dimensions yet, in the middle of putting shelves up. I know the titanic is 17.5" high, will this be around the same or taller due to the sales?

Found this one another website discussing the model:
47 cm (18.5 in.) high, 80 cm (31.5 in.) long and 24 cm (9.5 in.) wide

I purchased a lego banjo so I could add it to my Endurance, whenever it arrives.
I'd really love them to do Moby Dick.....

I’m 50 in January and thought this might be a rumour. Will buy asap with the James Caird and build it with my son - post 50 yrs old
(Also I’d love an Apollo Soyuz Test Project for Summer 75 for the 50th anniversary- to the scale of the LEM that Lego made)

I hope they use titanic to build her sisters, Olympic is a relatively easy modification with more boats and open promenade, but Britannic will need her a whole new set with new building techniques

Titanic’s older sister Olympic would have been running around at the time endurance was launched and lost

Honestly for another shipwreck set (honestly would love if this just became an official thing) Lego should either do the Lusitania or SS Atlantic (A very relatively unknown shipwreck so unlikely...
Basically she was the first major shipwreck of the white star line until Titanic, she sank when she hit a rock in Nova Scotia, Canada And sank stern first within minutes, then She was pushed onto the cliffs before being dragged down in a few hour's*
