It is quite a sad theme, but notice the wrecked cars dotted around, gang members and soldiers who make up the stage enemies? Perhaps the era of the present you've entered into is one of civil unrest, rioting etc, with marshal law declared?
@@retrolutiongames9479 That would be quite the meta commentary about the world back then this came out. Or I am overanalyzing a simple arcade game made for entertainment.
If u could pass 3 fricking rounds to come to this round, i know your pain. All those enemies, all your favorite characters. Killed and lost forever. I know your pain.
You sure? I told myself that the first time I properly complete this game has to be a no hit run, where all captives are rescued and every character gets at least 1 kill. If I don't get hit in 4-1, you bet I'm gonna get hit in 4-4. Frickin hardest stage in the game to not get hit!
This port of the game was developed by Sanritsu Denki (later known as SIMS Co., Ltd.), so that’s a possible clue that the sound arranger credited as “SZK” was one of their employees.
@@RetroRanter Maybe for the same reasons we never got the "Final Era" from the 8-bits version... They made the PS2 version after the original arcade one. I long for a perfect remake adding both Present Age and the Final Era.
Composer(s) went crazy on this track. I love the groovy vibe to this song and that loop at 2:08 is GORGEOUS. Great times and memories... I would always start dancing when this track dropped in the game and I still do now apparently 😅 I love it so much. ❤️❤️❤️
This track particularly is one of my favorite game music, which has a nice techno future feel to it. I also wondered for a long time who SZK is, and maybe did more music alike. Since Takada and Hayashi have composed the music for the arcade version, I am unsure whether SZK did the Mega Drive conversion, or only additionally composed this track.
Thank you for leaving a comment. It seems to be a mystery who SZK is and their role in developing the game. They definitely composed this song but as you say it’s unknown if they also converted the arcade tracks to the YM2612 chip. It’s a similar situation with the Mega Drive version of Golden Axe.
@@ZenithMusicNet Most ports of this game are based on the arcade version, so no, this track is usually missing. I can't remember if the Master System version has it or not.
Just found out about this game, definitely in my top 20 Sega games, love this track too ,weird I'm pretty sure this ost is only in the Genesis version why not in other versions?
I really like that era. I've also noticed how melancholic they made it for some reasons.
no no u don't lie lie

1:30 gives me this vibe of "the bad guys decided to attack your hometown, let's go save the day"

🥲🥲🥲the pain.
But onward to Gain more Ground!
A truly sick track. I'd love to see a modern take on this game with a remix of this track, hopefully by the same mystery composer!
Agreed. Also nice Q pfp.
I'm here because I heard this song in the game and was like damn, this needs to be vaporwaved

Shame this track didn't make into the Sega Ages 2600 series on the PS2... I would have loved to hear a proper remix.
Yeah, was always upset to not get a modern version of it, can just imagine how amazing it would have been.

Thanks for the recording ! Great track, I plan on doing a cover of it soon :)
Whoever the heck that SZK person was, they sure did make a great track. Let me know when you finish the cover.
@@RingoStarr39GameSoundtracks Hey, just uploaded the cover on my channel, feel free to check it out !

This track and stage isn't in the arcade or pc engine is it? It's rad. I love the change up of modern cars driving by
LightBlue2222 Correct. As far as I can tell it hasn't been included in later versions for PS2 and Switch, making the Mega Drive version pretty unique.

The only theme without a word describing it... I think it should've been called ~Stagnation~
