@@kikuokahime1025 I believe if Medaka Box got fully animated or if people genuinely gave the manga a try without following the crowd and hearing "Kumagawa carried the series" they'd realize just how good it is
Incoming wall of text praising a random underground fanfic that was written like 10 years ago on a website that no one goes to anymore because of its reputation for divisive quality fanfic. Out of all the Medaka Box fanfics that I’ve read, one of the most faithful to the manga despite taking place in an alternate universe is one called “World as Myth” on Fanfiction. I would be praising this fic all day for all the things it got right so let’s just move on to the topic I want to express: Hanten. Medaka Box doubles usually but not perfectly have the opposite personalities to their masters. Hanten is no exception. These shadows learn to dull their own personalities and individualities in order to better imitate and contrast their casters’ traits, as shown by the training Hansode went through in the Shiranui Village. And so guess my surprise when Hanten of all people appeared right in chapter 5 of the fanfic, showing his face to everyone and had a personality I can only describe as uncannily supportive and modernizing. I had some trouble figuring out why at first but then from his call with Ajimu in chapter 9, I kind of understood the duo’s motives, and that Hanten is not Ajimu’s double in this timeline, but Kajiki’s since the Kurokami Corps does own Hakoniwa Academy and Medaka did became its chairwoman in the manga. It is this kind of guesswork moments that generate answers and even more questions that makes reading each chapter of World as Myth so fun. Ajimu’s presumed motives are one thing I won’t say since it is so interesting, but I can only say that with Hanten not being Ajimu’s double but rather a snarky friend who discusses scheming with her feels like such a good development from an otherwise relatively static character (except in the Iihiko arc) in the original manga, making the World as Myth fanfic more full of ideas and hypotheticals than almost every Medaka Box fanfic I’ve read, even though the story has only told us through the parts that Medaka Box were already familiar with and was just getting good at chapter 18 when the author went into hiatus
