Muta is correct. Many Jamaicans living abroad have no plans on moving back because of the crime rate. They will visit frequently but they will not move back. I don't think the Jamaican government have a clue of how many Jamaicans have an illegal firearm or how easy it is to obtain one.

Really?? so many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many Jamaicans come back home that is the exodus of our people . A lot of Jamaican people as I get older go back home but now it’s happening a lot of the young ones of us go back home and when we here Our friends are coming back home, we have a welcoming party as long as we go home and can extend more opportunity to Jamaica is a beautiful thing and my ideology is take whatever you can get from racist Europe and America and take it back and make Jamaica and black countries the places that they should be because the majority of crime is based on poverty and if we’re bringing back opportunities to Jamaica, we will be a part of the solution and not the problem.🇯🇲💪🏾💪🏾

Im currently a Jamaican living abroad that’s moving back, honestly I have to be honest I have similar fears. But foreign is not that safe for black people, especially a conscious one.
Honestly though, as a black femme living in a white society, this perceived safety is hard to be deluded about. Being in proximity to white people, has proven to be one of the most violent experiences of my life. I’m realizing Jamaica is , yes, a more violent place, but not necessarily a less safe place.
Our society is a relatively young one, we are not far removed from the violence of slavery, we condone beating children, domestic violence and participate continuing cycles of violence in the name of superficial perception. Those are main aspects that contribute to the we engage with each other as a people. What people need to realize is, if we leave there’s nobody to fix these issues, break these cycles, and create new ways of being, that will eventually lead to a better society.
We as Jamaicans (and this also extends to other Caribbean Countries) had the ability to build a society, we have the opportunity to creat lasting black futures. We are the Afro futurist dream. But unfortunately so many people are too jaded, are just too unaware of that privilege or simply do see the value in doing labour that does not have capitalistic gain.
I though, am moving back, with the purpose of building, and I’m not the only one. I believe that in the next few years the trend of moving back with become a very popular one. Especially as these Western empires fall.

But I won’t be living there. I will not leave one hostile, violent place (America) to move to another violent place. First time I ever disagree with Muta. There are thousands of Jamaicans in e.g. Chicago and London, and violent crime exists everywhere. Do Jamaicans in the US have children in school? Do they think their children are safer in a US school than a Jamaican one? I live in England for 20 years, come back Trinidad 19 years ago. It took me 10 years to admit that I regret it. I was born in 1964 and grew up with idealistic INDEPENDENCE goals. So I returned home to build and found that no independence ideals remain. It is just materialism and corruption here now. But there are still more jobs created and maintained in foreign. We don't do that here. At least if you get shot in Jamaica a doctor will treat you without searching you for a credit card first, like in the US.

It’s not just the murder why people don’t like to move back to jamaica. It’s also the healthcare system. It’s a poor ill properly manage healthcare system. Poor staffing, core medicine, etc.. it’s also transportation. You cannot get from one side to another side because the roads are horrible. It’s so horrible people have skid plates underneath of their cars. You don’t need the Chinese people to fix that for you. The Jamaican people can fix it themselves. Crime, healthcare, lack of transportation is the reason why people are not moving back to jamaica. Another thing look at your markets. It’s so cluttered and crammed up. It’s ridiculous. When you go to a market in UK or the US, you can drive your car without having the traffic jam in jamaica. You can walk from one booth to another booth with no problem that’s not how it is in Jamaica. You need new politicians with new ideas and a new way of thinking these older politicians are used to this nonsense and the way it’s been going that they don’t know how to do it another way.

Think of how much better off JA would be if all these folks who are stymied by the crime, were to move back with their money? Cleaning up the crime to ensure this happens would advance the country in so many ways.

The healthcare is not substandard. You’re just making assumptions. My grandmother had major surgery in Jamaica way back in the 1950s as well as many other people that I know who have had very good healthcare and successful major and minor surgery in recent years. Also continuing healthcare is available to all citizens. You all need to stop painting this bad picture of Jamaica without true facts.

We live in Jamaica. Majority of us have return home. We sleep with our windows open, sometimes even, veranda door is left open if you’re not going to certain places in Jamaica, where you know you’re not to go violence is not following you up to your yard… sorry I don’t agree with this message
