Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)
Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”
So I started tutoring to keep other people out of the same aggravating, time-sucking cycle. Since then, I’ve recorded tons of videos and written out cheat-sheet style notes and formula sheets to help every math student-from basic middle school classes to advanced college calculus-figure out what’s going on, understand the important concepts, and pass their classes, once and for all. Two machines are used for drilling oil from an oil well and their operating times can be marked by random
variables 𝑿 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒀. 𝑿 is a uniform random variable on the interval (0, 1) and 𝒀 is an exponential random
variable with parameter 𝛌 = 𝟏, and 𝑿 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒀 random variables are given as independent. Analyze the
probability density function of the sum of 𝑿 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒀 random variables given as 𝒁 = 𝑿 + 𝒀.

Here, when you integrated the probability density function, you did not include any X (what I mean is for instance, if we had to calculate the mean, we would have to integrate x f(x) dx from 0 to 1). When do we and when do we not include x when integrating the probability density function? Thank you for your awesome videos.

What if there is a constant in the f(x)? For example I have f(x)=c/3^x. I found what value of c makes f(x) a valid PDF. So then, to find the probability of P(X< or= to 3) would I multiply the integral of f(x) by the value I found for c that makes f(x) a valid PDF?

Krista are you a university professor? I'm onto my second year of mathematics undergraduate now. Sometimes I see it as a real pain in the ass since I worked a few years and got back into studying without remembering all that much. Your videos cheer me up though because it feels like I'm not even studying since I love hearing your voice, and I actually understand stuff when you explain them. So they're like fresh air after me getting suffocated with confusion from going back and forth between lecture notes and textbooks. This was great, as always!
