I love the idea of the jordan 1s as a beater. Really liberating from the sneaker collecting era of the 2016s where people would wrap their jordans in plastic and put them on a shelf never to be worn.

Yep, I skated my 1's until they had a whole in the side and bottom all the way through. People just need to wear their shoes and stop stressing so much.
My favorite beaters are my vans slip ons! Initially we’re supposed to be my house shoes cuz I never thought I’d rock out with slip ons, but they really grew on me and just so convenient!

I absolutely love Tyshawns and Airmax 97s are my beaters personally, they wear so well and end up looking quite cool.
Its funny cause when i was still kind of into sneakers/hype stuff, the AJ1 Rookie of the Year was my first "hype" cop that i got at a fair price. They inadvertently became beaters cause i travel for work and wore them everywhere. Stepped in everywhere from mud in New Orleans to Paris.
This was an amazing video of beater shoes. I only own one pair of converse (which is my first). But it has the fur material on it and I'm going to break it out for the first time for winter because it's mostly used for winter. But i never knew the Adidas Samba is considered a beater. Now I'm considering of buying one. I wonder if it's good for running shoes too.
A good beater never dies! Great vid as always. My beater of choice is the Reebok club C or the Vans old skool. But I got some fresh Asics gel lyte 3s and they're so comfy I never wanna take them off. Could be the move.
Love the recognition for skate shoes here. All of these are amazing options for daily wear and generally sit in a good affordability slot. I think a lot of people underestimate how well skate shoes are made given that they are literally designed to be dragged against abrasive surfaces and absorb impact of falls.

Superstars are my fave beater. I used them to exhaustion and my kid is doing so as well.
The are so comfy when used.
New Balance 992, love the way they look when the midsole is all yellowed and discolored and the plastic heel counter gets all foggy and yellowed. Also love a pair of just beat Navy 990v5’s yellowed midsole, suede and mesh faded to completely different shades of blue.

saucony jazz is a sleeper hit, hella comfy, hella colors and materials.
Converse All-Star low profile is my go-to. I can wear them everywhere, with every type of outfit, and for hours walking (maybe not hiking into the backcountry….but push comes to shove they would do). I have 3 pairs; 2 I bought new 20+ years ago, 1 I bought used 15 years ago. I haven’t washed them at all.
I like the Gazelles, Authentics, Old Skools and Huaraches as beaters
I’d probably add the Ultraboosts too. I still own and wear a few pairs of the OG/2.0/3.0s and they’re super comfy too. Shoutout to the Stan Smiths as well, they look great as beaters.

I go between my vans and ultraboosts for my beaters. I recently bought a second pairbof the neighborhood 19's i love them so much beaten up where the black midsole starts to crack and the screen print on the cage starts to fade out, perfectiom
Black Converse 70's for me are the one I wear the most, I keep multiple pairs on stock of Converse 70's and buy more when they heavily discount them.

Air Force 1 is one of my best beater sneakers. Fully break-in AF1 is so comfy on my feet.
My daily beaters are a pair of Bearbricks x Nike sb lows. My travel beaters however are a pair of Vans old-school lows.
I just wanted to say as a 24 year old from San Clemente, SoCal… I love to wear my beat up vans, more beat the better almost falling apart but washed and ruined and cleaned as much as possible, worn with pride and honor and confidence..

J1 best beater. I have a couple of J1s and my J1 UNC off-white recently was partially chewed on by my dog. Still looks good. Lol. I still wear them.
For me it's gotta be the New Balance 990. With it being part of that whole "dad shoe" category you just expect to see them beat up. And they're really good for everything.
I've hiked, skated, worked at restaurants, trained, boating, just everything possible and they still stay comfortable. They're my beaters cause they're my shoe I'll do anything in.
Though I have upgraded to the 993 for it's better support and it's really the only shoe you'll ever need.
Though the most underrated beater for me I've used recently is the Diadora Maverick H.O.C. People here in the USA really sleep on Diadora

Af1s as beaters is goofy overall tho. As a person with a lack of melanin, I like them medium-rare, not really fully cooked with the clown toes and all that. Oxidized mid soles and some light creases (which is pretty hard to maintain without introducing your forces to sole separation faster than it should, while using shoe trees or something of the sort to keep their form), maybe some light scratches and spots, depending on the colorway, is as far as I would go wearing them.
I rocked cooked forces when I was like 16 'cause I was too broke to cop another pair and literally would do anything in them, including playing football (or soccer for the uncultured) but I wouldn't really dare to use them at any social function that recquired some sort of serious social interaction, they really don't look good cooked, no matter how many art school white girls try to normalize that.
With that being said, all the other picks look great the more you were them. Very solid.

One shoe I find that looks really good beat up is the adidas top ten red,blue and white. Iconic and very vintage looking when worn to dust!!! 😂

I think for Jordan 1s it depends on the colorway. The OG colorways all look great beat up. Some of the newer ones look a little bad, especially if they have suede on them.
Adidas Superstars is always my go to beater.
Great as always, Reggie. The best looking beater for me is always gonna be Converse All-Stars, but the best in terms of feel? Jordan 1s all day-although I've never gotten them to their ultimate form 🙃. And I had no idea they were adopted by the skate community back in the day!

Blazers are top tier. Best silhouette (copies several on the list) best brand recognition (domestically US) can rock high tops with any outfit. With or without tube socks. Looks great with skinny jeans, baggy jeans, short shorts, and for ladies; leggings.
The silhouette can be dressed up or dressed down. Only Jordan 1s compete here.

I never could get behind beat up sneakers. In my personal opinion, a beat and torn up sneaker always makes me feel that someone doesn't take of himself. Does anyone else here share that thought or similar ?😅

My first list would be any JORDAN 1 HIGH, MID and especially the lows. 2nd would be Converse all star high and lows.. not a fan of vans and adidas.. but only those adidas superstars are black and white shoes are good when theyre BEAT UP.. Those AIR FORCE 1 are not so good looking when they're beat up.. they look ugly when dirty.. i prefer these white Air Force 1 to be good when theyre ALL WHITE and CLEAN.. Looks fresh on feet. ❤❤❤🙂👌

Well, Sambas were my beaters for the past years but y'all know what happened to them (TikTok trend shoe)… No I just take the Adidas Spezial.
IMHO, regardless of brands, low cut sneakers made of suede/nubuck, canvas or raw hide looked best when beat up but in order to achieve the patina and dirty beat up look naturally, it need to LAST. That being said, the construction and material gotta be good. Stitch-around constructions like the Superstar, Stan Smith, AF1 are the one of the best classical sneaker that last way better than vulcanized method by Vans and Converse. Shoemaker just wanna squeeze maximum profit and hardly give a damn about improving retroes; you would still get crumble midsoles even in the year 2023 because they still stick to the same materlal that won't last (so you bought another pair). Even for Converse, an All Star won't last as long as a Chuck 70, Even the leather and threads used for making AJ1 changes for every retroes to maximize profit. Sideline a little bit, for "collectors" that never intend to rock their sneaker at all, would you please get a size 4 or size 15 and leave the nominal size to those who rock (respect) their sneakers? For god sake, you aren't wearing them anyway so why bother getting your own size?
I disagree with your take with the Jordan 4. 4’s are meant to be beat as well. 11’s though, yeah it needs to be taken care of because of the icy soles.

The shoes on the list will literally beat your feet... I would rather go with new balances or nike vapor waffle or yeezy 350 v2 or 700 v1 so I can wear it all day without hurting my feet.

modern jordan 1s and forces definitely cant be worn as beaters simply because a majority of them have such terrible quality that any creases or scuffs/scratches just look cheap and bad. They arent even real leather anymore 😂

Ditto to that a beat pair of 2015 Chicagos will never look as good and keep its structure as the OG or 94's. New ones wear bad BUT the Nu-85's nike has been releasing do lol good beat. I been destroying a pair of Neutral Grey's and Black/Whites and they look amazing gettin beat. Made sure to double up.
I've owned all of these sneakers at one point but I would honestly recommend the old skool / sk8 hi over the era. Great list nonetheless 💯
