  • Directing rainwater away from downpipes via ground drains is something we've been meaning to do for a long time, for two reasons. The first reason is that we have poor drainage in the ground in front of the cabin, so in the spring and autumn when it rains a lot, the water stays for a long time and it gets wet and muddy. Then directing the roof water away via ground drains minimizes the amount of water on the slope. The second reason is that we want to use the water in a good way, then we think that the rainwater should be channeled into the pond. If it rains 500mm in a season, the pond will be filled with 45000 Liters of water (1L / m2 and mm of rain) In this video I connect the rear downpipe to the front and lead the water out via ground drain to the pond. At the end of the video I pan for gold from the material I dug up.
This is the story of how we left the "normal" life and moved to a log cabin in the middle of the forest where we dream of living a simpler life.
We sold our big house to live a simpler life with less impact on the environment,
closer to nature and to become more self-sufficient with less costs.
Follow the development of how we put up new buildings, gardening, make new roads,
get cattle and much much more.
