Like telling Robby to put mirrors on his truck, or Matt to put seats on the wrecker...like that hadn't occurred to them.

They might like the wire rope on the skid steer.
Occasionally they use a lot of length. I don't think they can get as much synthetic onto the same size drum?
Of course in every other instance the synthetic is better. Perhaps given how often they need it out wouldn't be the end of the world to just respool the wire rope on if they need the length.

Love the video. Dont want to critique but a little advice to avoid a ticket from the dot. The way you had the skidsteer chained is not legal. You can use one chain and 2 binders like you did but the chain has to be hooked in a manner where there is slack in the middle so if one side of the chain breaks or a binder breaks/backs off, the other side doesn't also come loose. Keep the good content coming and hope you see this so you dont get ticketed.

You need to know the efficiency of that pulley to know the force of the 2 to 1 system. Probably around 85 percent so 1.85 times the force of the winch. Winch force changes a lot though based on how much cable is on the winch spool. The rating is usually based on the first wrap on the spool. More layers decrease the force the winch can actually pull.

  • @freeidaho-videos

Robby, you have a multi-million dollar operation there, and you are working on the floor, without knee pads. Speaking as someone that used to say "I don't need no sticking knee pads" in my later years I wish I was smarter then.
So make a welding table and use it, and wear knee pads.
Robby, count the lines going to the load. That is your multiplier. 4 lines is 4 to 1 mechanical advantage. (of course there is about 10% loss in friction)
Silly fork lift doesn't have lockers.

Great recovery guys under difficult conditions - even deep mud is avoided by tracked vehicles e.g. tanks. One note about your choice of wire-rope during the recovery. Years ago was wheeling across a flooded river - the contest was to cross and survive. Of course many trucks were stranded in deep water. I noticed the guy operating the winch controls was hunkered down below the windshield - while stupid drunk people were holding on to the steel winch line. He told me if a shackle or the cable gave way - like Harrison Ford's whip, the cable would cut a person in half,. He tried to warn them - but people kept holding on to the cable. Its easy to underestimate the force behind a commercial grade winch. I've noticed the lighter composite poly line that Matt uses - do you plan on re-roping your winches any time soon?

Yes regular fork lifts should be ran like you said yet this isn't a regular fork lift its a telehandler which is actually made to be used on construction sites to get materials up to the upper floors aswell as atleast up to the edge of the roof depending on building height an weight of object being lifted. These telehandlers are also able to lean the main body side to side to level itself out when being used on uneven terrain.. Yet there was no reason to try and drive that heavy machine thru all that very soft & wet dirt/mud without putting something on the mud prior to driving in it..

But when it comes to OBS’s… If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, the OBS Fords were/are straight up work mules. I’ve owned a few of each, and actually still have my OBS Chevy but it nor any other OBS Chevy I’ve had could out work any of the OBS Fords I’ve owned even the OBS Ford I had that was already thoroughly punished and abused by the previous owners.
