I would think that current not the voltage would have the over all effect on electronics. I would assume whites has a voltage regulator built in anyway. Nice build and heads up. Well done.
ive been told that the higher voltage creates heat inside the box which in turn makes condensation that gets on the board and shorts them out i run a 16.9 pack with my machine have had zero problems and also have a TDIpro with a 20 volt pack i have had np prob;ems yet knock on wood good video
i did the same with the battery case.....i used the same tdi beach hunter box and built a tdi pro with all the same features of the pro with also audio/led low battery warning with a pulse delay of 8 uS which has given me better depth on small items.
I don't think you'd get away with those settings at Sunset Beach though. Maybe if you cranked the gain way down. Just too much black sand. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on this machine but I have played with the gain, frequency and threshold, but the only way I can get the machine to be stable in all that black sand is to crank the pulse delay up to 20, or more, in the real heavy areas. I'm honestly not that concerned about losing anything too small at the beach. Even with my pulse delay set above 20 I'm picking up dime-sized pieces of aluminum can slaw at a foot deep without problems. but trying to run the machine pulse delay at 10 in all of that black sand creates a constant Wawa as it goes in and out of the water and over depressions in the ground as well. there would be no way to hear the faint deep signals through the black sand interference.
@@hbcz608 I did the same 3 18650 battery pach in the black sand very often I got that Wawa , last week after hearing constantly that Wawa I switched to alkaline pack and I was amazed how stable the machine was so for now I will switch to alkaline and add some capacitors to the 18650 pack maybe that helps BTW I tryed the 15 volts pack and found out that the depth was almost the same as 12.6 V from my knowledge I have seen schematics of few detectors 12 v supply is not regulated but all other elecronics where the +5v and -5v are stabilized for better performance.
you are welcome, however like I said in the video I don't recommend anybody do this as it may exceed the electronics capacity and I would hate for anybody to void their warranty because of a video I put out there. so far I have no issues, and I believe it is definitely deeper than using the stock battery pack. Good luck with whatever you decide and happy hunting.
Great build I have the TDI sl... same box. I was considering doing this Mod. Well done. I wonder how long the voltage takes when in use to get to 16 volts. If it's a short time and a problem would be having voltage at around 17v It should not hurt the machine. White's builds a heck of a product. Have you run the machine to see how long it takes to get to the 16v?
Good question, I have not done any real research to find out when the voltage drops occur. I would guess that about an hour's worth of run time is going to get you into the high 15 point something volt range. I only say that because I had the machine out a few days ago for what I think was maybe an hour-and-a-half hunt, on a full up charged set of batteries, and when I came back, they tested at 15.2 or 3 or somewhere in that area.
Yeah thanks for the info what a surprise seeing somebody make a video on this subject topic, whites or somebody already sells 16v battery for the Whites BH ,look online God bless thank you.
Depends on what kind of battery. If you're talking about using rechargeable double a batteries you will find the voltage is probably about the same as running 8 regular double a batteries. If you're talking about using eight 18650 batteries, you will probably want to run some in parallel and some in series otherwise you will be putting out way more voltage.
I wouldn’t put 16v through my detector especially as whites aren’t longer and people won’t repair these anymore, there are some 3D printed boxes on eBay with just 3 batteries running at about 13v much safer! But good luck. With your box
Well, White’s either couldn’t or wouldn’t fix it when I sent it back a couple of times that I did so there’s that. They did eventually replace it but the case still leaks, or at least for some reason builds up way too much condensation inside. As far as the extra voltage goes, I haven’t experienced any problems running this way, yet, I’m more worried about the moisture inside. Definitely not going to be using it for any extended underwater use. I’ll save the underwater work for the Infinium or trade off the beach hunter for another CZ 21.
The voltages on the double A's is just kind of low. that's why when I use the double a battery pack I go with the rayovac high-energy batteries. they are not rechargeable but, eight of those puts out More voltage than 8 rechargeable double a batteries or the stock rechargeable battery pack from whites.

@@hbcz608 i can work the deeper wet sand with 8 uS delay.....but where the hard pack is shallow i have to adjust the delay

I like watching these types of mods for metal detectors. Good video. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
Cheers
My pleasure
Super cool. Really appreciate the work here. And it works like a champ.
Thank you so much for this video. Right now using an R&B lithium pack, 4.2x3=12.6 volts.

In the process of reuploading this video, not sure why the resolution was so low on this upload, should be better on the next
hello, is it not a problem with the 17 volts for the detector? over time since it is supposed to operate on 12 volts
I have not had any issues with it voltage wise. I do avoid dunking it as it still has condensation build up that's a bit beyond my liking
@@hbcz608 ok thank you for the return, it's nice have a good end of year celebrations and good detection to you.

HB, you've disappeared! Hope you are well.
Are you still hunting and do you think the battery mod on the TDI Beach Hunter was worth it?
Bill
my neck has been acting up and had covid. I believe the battery mod does go deeper
I am from Spain.
Can 14.4v also be used in a Whites Spectra Vx3?
wow, not sure. never used one
Ba disons que acu original sur le whites tdi beach unter que j’ai en bretagne ces 6 heures autonomie après on en a 2 sa fait 12 heures

Will This Work For the TDI Pro?
My 3 cell 18650 battery packs, R&B and the Russian 3-D printed, lose approx. .5 volts per hour.
Yes im talking about AA rechargable batterys i have my tdi beach hunter 🥑👌🏻👍🏻
It will end up being about the same voltage as this stock rechargeable battery pack from whites.

I had smoke in my tdi SL reaching 17 volts...
well, I thought the resolution was going to be better, but no.
