The shot seemed like a little homage to the Halle Barry scene, and even back to Ursula Andress. She was making a lot of young women, look like girls on that lake.
I loved the last scene between Lois and Clark. Him wearing red and her wearing blue and just that final shot of him holding her shoulder, simply signifying their future as a couple.
beautiful juxtaposition too how they both exchange pep-talks about future partners (hers in S8 after she actually was aware of her crushing on him) and they will both end up helping each other thru tough break ups from a true platonic place. as much as I was ready for the slow burn to ignite, I really really appreciate how much they had such a well developed, well rounded friendship prior to their romance ❤
There was a zoom interview with the Smallville cast a while back and I remember Alan telling the story of Tom’s power on the show. Alan said he had been swimming in the lake for some shots-it was freezing and he was really hurting from the cold. When Tom came on set to do the underwater scenes, he felt the water temp and said something like “this water is freezing -can we get a hot tub over here??!” Alan continued, “I kid you not within 15 minutes we had a hot tub on set and we were relaxing in the hot tub in between takes”. The power of Tom!

I am new to Talk Ville and just finished season 10 of Smallville with my husband last week. I crossed paths with Talk Ville last month when I was still in season 8. I loved this show, I was saddest when Lionel died and wasn't happy how they brought him back in from Earth2. I was satisfied with the way the show ended.
I can't believe y'all didn't talk more about the fight scene between Clark and AC. It was incredible. They way it was shot, edited, and how it communicated AC's power was amazing.
Hoping you guys will have Justin Hartley in the show for season 6. He did a great job playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and his character had a great friendship with Clarke.
Probably tough right now given all the Reacher hype. I imagine Alan's busy as heck shooting the next Season, and that show really revolves around him, so I doubt he gets many days off lol
What makes clark and lex's relationship so interesting is that, while clark doesn't owe anyone his secret, he does still lie to those around him and gaslight them (alot), so lex being so frustrated and pushing back is understandable but at the same time doesn't excuse his actions. It makes their "friendship" so complex and great to watch.
@@yakiddin Exactly. It would be very difficult to deal with, and does make it hard for Clark to maintain relationships once someone starts figuring out something strange is going on. However, Lex makes his terrible choices all on his own. Clark did not make him evil or follow in Lionel’s footsteps. If Lex truly could not deal with Clark’s lies and felt he was either doing something wrong or it just wasn’t right to not know, then he should have ended the friendship earlier on. And I love their friendship from the early years. It’s so sad when it goes downhill, even though it’s inevitable.
The part here where Michael talks about the off-set issues is truly a reason why listeners tune into this show. Not so much for gossip but we can get episode recaps anywhere. We really want to hear from the actors whether that's behind the scenes information or off-set drama. And let's face it: we've all heard too many "I don't quite remember what happened back then" lines from both our lead actors lol.
I also find it interesting that the. Ending scene with Lois and Clark, which was a very pivotal moment. In the episode. To send him off to being the hero that he becomes later was never even mentioned. You guys are slacking off, with your Commentary.
Bingewatched Smallville for the first time in a couple of weeks and now heading for the two very last episodes. Well done ! It’s a very good show! For me this show comes second place in my favorites, behind The originals that comes first place❤ Love from the Netherlands.
My goodness Erica Durance was all kinds of sexy and charismatic this episode! That shot of her coming out of the water in the red bikini is so ICONIC!!! ❤️🔥🔥😍
OMG it's today it's today!!! Guys, really you started all the super heroes series and movies, Michael, Tom, because of you we had the best teenage time, thank you!!! Keep it up 🤙🏽
LOIS LANE: “I’ve known a lot of guys who want to own the world. I haven’t met very many that actually want to save it. How am I ever going to meet someone like that again?”😃 CLARK KENT: “Lois, I promise someday, you’ll meet someone even more special.😃 As he stands next to her, him wearing red, Lois wearing blue. OMG I can still remember my heart pounding when we first saw that scene!😃
Alan definitely grew as an actor as well as being charismatic. This was very early in his career. At the time, he was "That guy from American Idol" I'm happy that he stuck with it though because he truly has grown into a good actor. Oddly enough, he could even portray an amazing version of Aquaman today, nearly 20 years later.
I just started watching seasons 4 & 5, and when James came on screen for the first time, and I was like, “Spike”? 😂 Buffy was the first show I ever saw him on so it was a big shock. I agree that he did SO well in this role. I could hear the little British accent in there at times though and laughed a little because I knew why even though he’s American.
I LOVED Aqua when I first saw it. What an opening at the lake, it looked like a fun place to be. I just marvel at how far Alan has come from Smallville to Reacher. It was so interesting hearing his interview on IOU. Erica was stunning, oh to be able to wear a bikini like that! Lex was pure evil, great underwater scenes as well. Great podcast, so excited for Thirst next weeek! I'm wondering if I am in the minority group of finding Thirst a whole lot of fun, not to be taken seriously, who's with me? (ducks for cover) 🤣🤣
Indeed, best way to watch it is like watching a bad horror flick. Everything is a joke. My fave part is probably James Marsden saying, “Everyone knows, there’s no such thing as vampires” since he played a vampire on Buffy😂
This is the continuation of Smallville diving into the DC lote with the introduction of Arthur Curry "AC" aka Aquaman in this episode. Played by amazing Allen Ritchson. I always loved the opening on the beach with the party and saving of Lois. And how AC gives Clark a taste of his powers, by blasting him out of the water. Such a fun moment. 😀🙏🙏🙏
Many great young actors with his iconic today roles her carrers begins in Smallville. Stefan and Damon from Vampire dilaries. Jack Reacher from Jack Reacher. Dan Winchester from Supernatural.
An epic episode! I loved seeing Alan Ritchson as Arthur Curry. Great introduction to the character. The "Evil Lex" really shined this episode, the scene with A.C. was brutal. Another great intro with Professor Milton Fine, great edition to the show. James Marsters is a great actor, very present and charismatic. I loved watching Clark defending Lois as it gives hints for their future, especially the end scene. I loved the episode! 🌹 🌹 and a half roses!
How much Michael is in denial about Lex being the villain is funny because he knows how crazy it is to hear John Glover say Lionel wasn't wrong in how he treated Lex 😂 He missed a number of things in the earlier seasons that indicated he was more conniving that he thought. Including the stuff lex has done before he even met Clark. But it may be that just with John Glover, the actor has to empathize and see it though the characters eyes.
Lois and Clarks interactions should be talked about more. They were so great together. Lois is so layered, I love her. In this episode, I thought it was hilarious that Lana was just sitting there while clark interrogates AC and keeps his eyes on Lois. I really loved it. We lose a lot of good characters as the seasons progress and for me losing Michael was truly painful. But then I read he returns. I didn't want to spoil it further so I didn't look up the details. Waited for so long only to see him again for a few minutes was disappointingly anticlimactic. BUT I'm glad I stuck around waiting for Lex because the last 3 seasons are my absolute favourite. Lois, Clark, Oliver and Tess carried the show so well. Theres just so much to love about those seasons and I wish more fans would've stuck around for it. Kal Al was more powerful than he's ever been and Lois, the luthors and the other heroes were all an essential part of his growth and I'm glad we got so much of that in the last 3 seasons. Please Talkville, stick around till the end.
For me this was my introduction for the character of Aquaman. I am glad that he got to wear the classic Aquaman colors. James did such job as Martin Fine. I loved the dialogue between Clark and Martin. It was interesting to see Lex’s villain turn in this episode. Not only did he have Martin against, but AC as well. One of my favorite lines in this episode was when Lex tells Clark that only the naive see the world in black and white. Y’all rock!!
🌹🌹 This episode is so good! And Erica was amazing despite the fact that she has a phobia of water, she remained professional 🔥 I can't wait for the next episode with the vampires. I just want to see Michael's reaction 😂
I don’t get the hate for seasons 8-10 those are some of my absolute favorite seasons. I understand it’s not as good without Michael but they did great teasing bringing him back(finally happening in the finale) and making it interesting without him. I think all seasons are amazing! Loving the podcast guys!
I don’t understand it either. I think it was just as good without him. Cassidy Freeman brought a fantastic energy as Tess. They’re my favorite seasons.
I agree, I loved the last seasons too! I enjoyed all of Smallville overall. I think people who were more attached to Lex, Lionel, Martha, and Lana might have found it jarring without them. I enjoyed those characters, but I was excited to see Clark step into the Metropolis/almost Superman world.
I loved the show all the way through the years. There are definitely seasons that were lacking. As far as seasons 8, 9 and 10, it's not about Superman yet it is still his journey to becoming Superman, which doesn't happen until the very last episode of season 10. They couldn't have 10 seasons of him being a teenager. I think showing not only his teenage years, but his young adult hood was important. Both shape the man Superman becomes.
Also, FYI for those that don't know, before his role in Reacher, Alan Ritchson was great in another DC inspired series as Hank Hall/Hawk in the HBO series TITANS which was a "gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise".
Michael, always a treat when you're excited about an episode! Great intro for AC. Alan really couldn't have been more pretty... I mean perfect... for the role. Thanks for the fun, Everybody!❤
The episode's success they thought Aquaman needs its own show and Justin Hartley leading the show would've been great. Ving Rhames served as a mentor with that deep voice and now doing the Arby's commercial is so good. That pilot episode has a nice Smallville connection with the guest stars.
I am kind of surprised by 1.5. I was actually guessing at least one would say 2 or 2.5. between cool fight scenes and Lex showing himself as a villain. It was good
Those later seasons are the ones I look forward to most when I do a rewatch. The closer Clark came to being Superman, the better I liked it because, after all, I've been a Supes fan for decades. I also loved the banter between Clark and Lois. Their chemistry was amazing! Also, I disagree with the live caller. Lex always had an evil side. Every friend Clark had, he had to lie to about his powers, and they all had their suspicions, but they didn't turn evil because Clark lied. In a later season, Clark came out to the world about his secret, and it was a disaster. He had to use the legion ring to go back and change things. If he had told Lex early on, Lex would have eventually exploited Clark's powers and Clark, most likely, would have become one of Lex's experiments. Plus, it's in the comics. Lex was always meant to be an evil character. Period.
Glad we've gotten to hear from Bryce a lot more with this season. He always brings good questions and insight. Still loving the show and look forward to more!
My favorite part of this episode was the introduction of Professor Milton Fine aka Brainiac played by fabulous James Marsters, Spike of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His first line to Clark: "Good morning Mr. Kent. Did we start too early for you?" Quite funny. Loved how he questioned Clark on "his story". That even Brainiac knew from the beginning he was destined to be Superman.
Regarding Ryan's question,. Christopher Reeve Foundation is still around so maybe thats another reason its still there. The dog tags were still available about 8 years ago, but no longer apparently (Glad I bought 4 😃)
Season 5 is handsdown my favorite season of the show, and this was a particularly good episode. I'd always thought Aquaman was kind of a goofy hero (growing up on a steady dose of Superfriends as a kid, the fish talking hero was never a favorite) but Ritchson's take actually made me actually dig the character. After the bust that was the whole Teague/Isobel arc of last season, I was really pumped by how the show was finally starting to really lean into the greater Superman/DC mythology this season.
You're entitled to your opinion. But I disagree heavily on both fronts. Season 5, for me, is particularly weak. Johnathan was always about anonymity and protecting Clark's secret at any cost. He even ran out into a tornado to prevent Nixon. Yet now he wants to be a senator and expose his family to public spotlight? Or how about rehashing Clark/Lana drama, starting up Lex and Lana, or Johnathan having a pointless death where nothing changed? Then, for a lot of years, people heavily criticized Aqua and Alan's performance/line delivery. But now that he's become famous and done well with Reacher, suddenly it's a great episode, and he's the best Aquaman ever. Even Alan himself has said he sucked in Aqua. 😂
I feel like Erica should get talked about more in the show. I feel like her talent and chemistry with Clark always gets overshadowed. Maybe in season 8 when she becomes the full female lead they’ll talk about her more but I feel like she deserves more attention! Like even that final scene with her and clark with him telling her someday she’ll find someone even better, no ones talking about that!
Yes! I love the boys, but I also want to hear about the scenes with Erica (my personal favorite). The guys like to hear about the action, plot, stunts, etc. The ladies want to hear a little analysis of the relationships and characters - and our favorite ladies, the ladies of Smallville! 😊That’s what I’m hoping for when I’m tuning in to Talkville! Really appreciate all you do! Just asking for a little bit extra in this area, even if it makes the episodes a little longer.
I feel like comedy itself and comedic acting isn't talked about at all and a lot of her parts are comedic in the beginning. The accent during discussions is about drama and dramatic acting, but comedy is no less important and doesn't require any less talent, so imo should be highlighted more.
Obviously the budget for the last few seasons were heavily reduced, impacting location filming and music etc. But I think a lot depends on who your favourites are. If it's Lex and/or Lana, then you'll probably skip the later seasons. I absolutely love seasons 8-10 (the Doomsday storyline, not so much 😂) as my favourites are Clark, Lois, Oliver, Tess, Chloe (??), and I feel seasons 8-10 are the best (or at least up there with personal favourites from the early seasons).
@@dj2bklyn True. Maybe it was "more experienced" than well-known. If I remember correctly, Hartley had already been acting for some years and this was Ritchson's first role ever.
Also really looking forward to seeing you guys at the con coming up in October in New Jersey. One I'm particularly excited for as the whole gang will be there.😀😀🙏🙏🙏❤❤
Fingers crossed that Michael Rosenbaum will allow the other actors to talk. He usually craves the spotlight and sucks up all of the oxygen in the room at these comic cons.
Michael saying he’s happy Alan could show his comedy chops on Reacher when he played Thad on Blue Mountain State which was the funniest character on one of the funniest shows ever lol
I believe James Marsters spent a lot of the 2010s more focused on music, and raising his daughter, which is maybe why he didn't work as much as he used to. Seems like an awesome dude though, and I agree, so magnetic on screen.
This reminds me of the ep Craving with Amy Adams. It was panned for a lot of years by the fanbase. Then she becomes famous, and people suddenly praise it. Aqua was the same way. Most fans heavily criticized Alan's line delivery on stuff like "wet and ready bro." Mainly because it was his first gig and he had no experience. But now after film success and a great job with Reacher, suddenly Aqua is Alan's "tour de force" as the best Aquaman ever. Even Alan himself has said he sucked in Aqua. 😂
@misoboskovic - Kamala Harris syndrome. I mean, she had a 28% approval rating and was considered a joke by the left and right voted the worst VP of all time. But now, all of the same media networks that ridiculed her are hyping her up as our "savior." Despite the fact that she never received a single vote in two consecutive primaries. It's like mass hypnosis Manchurian Candidate style. 😆
Erica looked straight fire in that shot of her coming out of the water. It gave me old school James Bond bombshell vibes.

Come on, you guys should have talked more about the scenes between Lois and Clark, especially the last one! We need a deeper analysis of them, I love Lex, Clark, and Lois, and I'd love to hear more thoughts on these characters, please! They're literally the future of Superman!
I hope that James can make it on the podcast.
He was on Inside of You

Damn hopefully you guys can get Alan on at some point for his future appearances! 😊
tried. will try again :)
Probably tough right now given all the Reacher hype. I imagine Alan's busy as heck shooting the next Season, and that show really revolves around him, so I doubt he gets many days off lol
@@TalkVillePodcastty for trying! Would love to have him on!
One of my favorites!! Would love to see Alan Ritchson on the pod
Erica coming out of the water in the red bikini channeling her inner Phoebe Cates!!😍
I love all 10 seasons of Smallville. I can't wait until they get to the season 10 episode Booster.
The ratings for this episode were off the charts when it originally aired!
For me this show comes second place in my favorites, behind The originals that comes first place❤
Love from the Netherlands.
Erica 100% understood the assignment with that bikini shot 👌
She is beautiful....
Keep it up 🤙🏽
A lot of people left but season 9 slaps. Underrated season for sure
LOIS LANE: “I’ve known a lot of guys who want to own the world. I haven’t met very many that actually want to save it. How am I ever going to meet someone like that again?”😃
CLARK KENT: “Lois, I promise someday, you’ll meet someone even more special.😃
As he stands next to her, him wearing red, Lois wearing blue. OMG I can still remember my heart pounding when we first saw that scene!😃
The signs were definitely there from the start! I’ve never seen better chemistry between an on-screen couple, and only rarely any on the same level.
Watching it as an adult… it’s pure cheese, straight from the whiz can 😵 😅😂
Loved it!
Alan definitely grew as an actor as well as being charismatic. This was very early in his career. At the time, he was "That guy from American Idol"
I'm happy that he stuck with it though because he truly has grown into a good actor. Oddly enough, he could even portray an amazing version of Aquaman today, nearly 20 years later.
Loved this episode! Erica killed it!!! And the patch covering Clark's "gunshot wound" was a paid actor 😆
TalkVille Wensdays ❤️💙🤘
Many great young actors with his iconic today roles her carrers begins in Smallville. Stefan and Damon from Vampire dilaries. Jack Reacher from Jack Reacher. Dan Winchester from Supernatural.
The Lois and Clark crumbs kept me fed back then 😭
Me too!😂
Can we all how appreciate how hilarious Bryces written run-down is that they read off of lol
Love seeing how the episode focused on the main characters that align with the comics! Getting more heroic in story lines and more dark for Lex!
I have more appreciation in the quality of effort and time you guys put into making 22 bangers a year
This was a good episode I liked the introduction of Aqua Man. Alan Ritchson played it very well. I’d give it a 🌹 and a half.
Man season 5 is killing it. Feels more grown up and the stories moving along quicker.
How much Michael is in denial about Lex being the villain is funny because he knows how crazy it is to hear John Glover say Lionel wasn't wrong in how he treated Lex 😂
He missed a number of things in the earlier seasons that indicated he was more conniving that he thought. Including the stuff lex has done before he even met Clark.
But it may be that just with John Glover, the actor has to empathize and see it though the characters eyes.
This episode helped make aquaman cool. I love how this started the trend of lois dating dc heroes
I love Smallville because I love the way Clark, Tom and
John are like the family we all want!!!
*Milton Fine
Auto correct strikes again.
A glowing introduction of a second justice league member! I rate this episode 1 and a half roses!
Thanks for S05E04! 🥂🥂🍻🍻
Was hoping they'd have Alan on the show!
🌹🌹 This episode is so good! And Erica was amazing despite the fact that she has a phobia of water, she remained professional 🔥
I can't wait for the next episode with the vampires. I just want to see Michael's reaction 😂
He will still love Kristin.
Yes, the mountain lakes of Kansas. I remember visiting there as a young boy.
The 'Smallville Logic' could be: the meteors reshaped the landscape. "Crater Lake".
You forgot to mention Alan's turn in Ordinary Angels. He gave a powerful performance as a father trying to save his daughter.
Tess Mercer sucked. Justin Hartley was a huge saving grace; stole the show, imo.
The series, as a whole, in the end, was solid!
Slo mo water effects were excellent!!
Don't think we don't notice that Tom's Smallville collection in his zoom window gets more in-depth as Talkville goes on! Ha ha
One of my favorite episodes! And I love how Lois gets more screen time!
It's a trip hearing Tom called Tommy. Also liking the Wilt Chamberlain hoodie Michael has on, unexpected and cool surprise.
Rosenbaum didn’t have that many scenes with Erica. So, Rosenbaum doesn’t really look at her as being a big part of the show.
@@BigBandGuylmao
That's a classic moment between those characters on Smallville...
I feel like comedy itself and comedic acting isn't talked about at all and a lot of her parts are comedic in the beginning. The accent during discussions is about drama and dramatic acting, but comedy is no less important and doesn't require any less talent, so imo should be highlighted more.
Never understood why some people hate the later seasons. Season 9 alone is probably right up there with season 3 and season 5.
Loved Alan Ritchson as Aquaman. Thank you for another amazing and fun episode of Talk Ville ❤ You guys are the best!!! Happy Talk Ville Wednesday ❤☄️🌽
I love the pace you're setting but I don't want this series to end 😢 😫 😅😂
This episode is what made Erica Durance my 1st crush
understandable
That simultaneous “It’s because he’s interesting” @ 6:36, was awesome! Just shows how linked Tom and Rosey were on that moment!😅😊
Next episode is gonna be rough, I can already predict everyone’s score 😅
Alan has said in the past that the higher ups wanted a more well known actor for the spin-off series.
Jason Hartley was hardlya well known.
@@dj2bklyn True. Maybe it was "more experienced" than well-known. If I remember correctly, Hartley had already been acting for some years and this was Ritchson's first role ever.
It would be epic if Welling was a guest star on an episode of Reacher
Or Tacker
Thanks for answering my question about the aquaman pilot!! Loved this episode ❤❤
omg congrats!!!!! ❤
Enjoyable episode loved the lake setting and the introduction of the new characters. The discussions were very informative, Thank you🤩
Also really looking forward to seeing you guys at the con coming up in October in New Jersey.
No lie seeing Alan and Jason Momoa in the recent Fast N Furious movie was dope. Seeing 2 Aquamen in the same screen 😂
They worked well together.
I believe James Marsters spent a lot of the 2010s more focused on music, and raising his daughter, which is maybe why he didn't work as much as he used to. Seems like an awesome dude though, and I agree, so magnetic on screen.
In D&D terms, Clark was Lawful Good, Arthur was Chaotic Good, and Lex bounced between Lawful/Chaotic Evil - mostly Lawful though
Watched alot of Alan's career so far, loved Aquaman, Thad, & Reacher all 3
This reminds me of the ep Craving with Amy Adams.
This! Every word of it.
I don't understand the praise, too. He was horrible in Aqua. And that bro thing was cringe.
I was pleasantly surprised by just how much Michael suspended disbelief and actually liked the episode
