I just recently discovered your YT site when several of you got together to go antiquing and thrifting. I was already following Lisa at farmhouseonboone and her sister Laura, but I so enjoyed the camaraderie that you all were sharing. I am 75 years old and being a homemaker has always been my top priority. I've had to work outside the home at different times in my 55 year marriage, but I still managed to be the keeper of our home. I'm enjoying getting to know you and see what you are up to in your sweet home and your cute family. Let me just say, I think you are gorgeous and seem to be the same inside as well as outside. Keep doing what you are doing because you are doing it very well.💞
With four little boys, homeschooling, cooking, cleaning and laundry, I dont know how you have any time to play with decor.😊 I always did my decorating while my boys were at school so kudos to you for all that you accomplish everyday.❤
I have a few thoughts. First, I have a feeling that just the right cupboard door handles are going to easily show up soon and will probably be second-hand. You won't have to pay top dollar for them. That's my prediction because so many other items in your home have arrived that way. Second, you adding a few more blue kitchen items (as you're doing) will make the stove color appear more intentional. Third, you are modeling for us that decor decisions don't come quickly and often shouldn't. Good creative choices come because the head and heart have worked together. Emotions need time to cast their vote. There is great value in feeling into choices--not just thinking our way into them. That sort of wisdom requires patience. Fourth, you're doing a fabulous job. ❤
Totally agree! I’m wondering if that new piece is a handmade one of a kind piece! It’s so unique! Everything is always wonderful and I can wait for the Christmas to begin! I a Michigan person also!!
"Emotions need time to cast their vote" and "feeling into choices not just thinking our way into them" ... I needed to read that. Such great advice. ❤😊
It's wonderful to see a young woman who is dedicated to being a mom, wife and homemaker. And on top of it you are an amazing decorator. I have so much respect for you.
I always say "time to play with my new furniture / room layout / decorating plans etc" I'm not sure where I got it from & nobody else I know says it lol. But I think I've been saying it for at least 25 or so years. Nice to hear that you & your mum also say it. Lovely relaxing video. It's also raining here in the UK today so your cosy home was so nice to watch x
No big reveal necessary, Andrea. It’s so much more encouraging when you take us through your thought process than presenting a finished project every time. Slow living all the way. 😊
Love, ❤️ 😍 Love the brass kitchen handles that you 1st showed, but would only do the lower cabinets nearest the stove! Ohhhh... I love the cast iron beside your bed!!! Your eye continues from the dresser to the bed. While the brass lamps are gorgeous, and I think they are too tall for the space. Adore the warm cabinet ... Would be perfect for hat, garden gear near enter/exit area!!! You're certainly an inspiration for me while I make Grandma's house come back to life!!!
I love ❤️ the brass handles Andrea. I know you said you weren’t in love with them but in the video I love how they bring together all your beautiful brass, copper vintage items. ❤personal pref but I love them ❤. I love your style so much. Your home is stunning and so cosy ❤
Thank you for letting me know to take my time. I’m in a new home trying to get a feel of what I’m wanting in each room look an feel like. It’s been stressful at times. I’m will take my time ..
Andrea I think just the right handles will do the trick and coordinate well with your beautiful stove. I do like the gray soapstone for your counters....but that’s another project for another time. Your bedroom is so cozy and those wood beams are everything, it definitely looks like an English cottage bedroom.
My mom says that, always has... "im going to play around with (fill in the blank)" ❤😊 I ran across your channel and then remembered a few other RUclipsrs had mentioned you, so I clicked and am happy I did so!!😊
My mom and I use the phrase playing with our homes. I too find I need to try things, wait, make changes, and then wait some more. Eventually I figure out what feels right, and I learn things as I go. I appreciate knowing that you don’t have it all together on the first try. It feels more like we are friends, sharing what is happening in our lives together. Keep playing with all your decorating and when it finally works, it will be an awesome feeling.
Sometimes just a day in the life video helps others see that most days are just about getting the people we love cared for and the normal things in life tackled! Love to see them!!
I love your style. I’m an empty nester but still enjoy thrifting & decorating my home. It’s my hobby. It’s so nice to watch you young ladies finding purpose & reward from raising your children and keeping a peaceful home for your families. I just ordered the checked pillow shams from Amazon. Could you please share the link for your new duvet cover?
It was actually heartwarming to see that it takes you some time to make your decor decisions. I’m the same way and I’m always telling myself, “I bet people who are better at this know right away!” The mean things we tell ourselves! You are very talented. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one slow to make choices.
You could spray paint the existing handles with a brass finish! I believe Rustoleum makes one. I've used Rustoleum to refinish metal outdoor furniture as well as indoor air vents!!! They all turned out great and look high quality afterwards.
Hello Andrea This is Leanne from Australia. I simply love your home and you are such an inspiration to me so thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful vidoes. I just love them so much. When I am working on the decor of my home my dog Annie will be lying on my bed and watching me as I go back and forth and I just tell her that Mum is just "TWEAKING". It is late spring here and finally warming up. The roses in my garden and the fox gloves are just wonderful this year. Please keep up the great work that you do.
If you can find brass handles that you love, I think they will look beautiful and really cohesive with that beautiful range and the cabinets. Love your videos. God bless you and your family. ❤
I redid my cabinets with new paint, but new hardware was out of the budget, but I found the ticket!! Spray paint!! Rustoleum makes brass, copper, silver spray paint, and they make those colors in whats called hammered, which dries with a bit of texture, I did all my hardware and it looked great. Then you don't have to worry about holes matching, finding new different length screws, etc.
Your piece of furniture is a washstand commode. The bottom door is for a chamber pot. The top lifts up to store a pitcher and basin. The little drawer is for a clean towel, some soap and other useful items.
On a whim I tried looking up your new piece of furniture and this is what I found. I found one like it called a “Lift Top Commode Chest.” The top lifts to store a basin and pitcher. The drawer is for cloths or towels and the bottom is storage for the chamber pot. I know you’ll have fun working with your new finds. Thanks for taking us along!
I started using the term play years ago. We used to camp a lot and my husband always teased me about playing house. That kind of rolled over to our house.
I love playing house in my home. Sometimes just for a change, I’ll move things from room to room😊 it’s something I enjoy and I, too, like to live with things in my space to get a feel for where I will want it.😊😊
Hi. Decorating definitely takes time. I'm the same way. It all looks great. Your new nightstand under the window looks much better there. Good choice. That soup looks soooo good. Thanks for sharing.🎉
Andrea, Finally found your precious dough box. 18th to early 19 century. Pennsylvania pine dough box chest. Just don’t remember what purpose the drawer had, but sure it was purposefully made. You can see a very old one on Schearbrothers. Amazing huh? Elizabeth
I was one of the ones who purchased the Blumene when you first promoted it. It actually works I had a turkey neck and now it's literally all GONE. thank you
Hi i love playing decorating shops i have a lv pine dresser which i painted white and a lg book case i love pale blues and white things i change it often i have a lg cupboard out in the garage where i store things oh my goodness we will not go their ha ho live is good i love decor have a great day love your vlogs xxxx all the way from England ❤
Perfect message for my current season of life! We just moved our family of 6 from a 2700 sqft house to 1600 sqft house, everything has been a challenge and it was nice to hear that it’s ok to take this slow and not rush every decision. You’re always so encouraging, thank you for what you do 😊
I don’t know anyone that can make design decisions quickly and always get it right. It takes me a long long time. Probably too long sometimes! I just love the blue stove. I honestly like it better than the stainless steel! I think the blue just adds another touch of character. Also, those new pillows….oh my they are so pretty! And the new piece of furniture - love it! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. It is so unique. Thank you Andrea for another great video. Have a wonderful weekend!
Love your home, my dear. 😊I too have the pillow covers on your bed. They are absolutely beautiful and affordable I have a set. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. God bless your family 🙏🏼🕊🙏🏼🕊
Hi Andrea! I always love your videos! Your bedroom is beautiful which made me wonder if the bed would look good to move it back under the window. That way you can leave the sconces on the wall where they are now. And you can have access to the beautiful side table that opens up without a lamp on it. The sitting area would look good under the ceiling where it is slanted. I think it would be a cozy space for the chairs. It didn't look like there was enough room for the sconces to be at a good level on the slanted ceiling wall. All this is just a thought. Again and as always thanks for sharing.
Yes my dear friend and aways “play around” with our knew things we get(actually antiques) that’s what makes it so enjoyable!!!!!! I think the brass handles are beautiful but it is a decision that you will have to make !!!!! I still love the blue stove ❤️
We are fortunate to have near our home a business that occupies a large warehouse and is filled with reclaimed “old” items. They have lots of different hardware items. If you had such a place, or even check out antique stores and thrift stores, you might find hardware that you like. Just a thought. I’m sure you will find something. Blessings!❤
Hi Andrea, love your new finds. Incorporating more blue in your kitchen will definitely help your beautiful blue stove blend nicely. As for your counters have you considered the cost effective “Epoxy” that you spread and work over your existing counter to get whatever style you desire? I ran into a video of it after I had invested in granite for my kitchen so it was to late to try it, and save money. Now 12 years after installing the darker granite I’m craving something along the lines of marble- ugh! I might play with the epoxy this time and see?? So nice to see a young woman enjoying homemaking, homeschooling, and all that good stuff! I also would like to say how refreshing it is to see a beautiful young women dress modestly. It sad seeing so many women leaving nothing to the imagination! You are a good example to Many women out there. God continue to bless you and your family.
Also I really loved this . I have five kids and homeschool, it's very hard to find any time to play and decorate which is a Passjon for me. I have learned to combine my creativity WITH serving my family, Including my kids with decorating decisions, I love to bake and cook and that can be creative too.
Yes I use the term PLAY regarding decor! The pulls you got at Menards are the very same ones I bought to replace my pulls except mine are only 3”. If you wind up needing to paint, perhaps you can just paint the inset portion on the drawers. The soapstone counter being lighter would probably also brighten your kitchen if you go that route. The sconces make sense by the bed because of the sloped walls. It would probably be hard to find lamps that fit there, but easy to find something that fits on the straight wall by the window. My soup that is similar has chicken broth, Italian turkey sausage, onions, garlic, potatoes, spinach and red pepper flakes. Since I live alone I usually make it without the potatoes to start, then freeze individual portions and add a potato when I reheat from frozen.
It’s a lovely video as always. I personally loved the fact that you showed the process rather than a big reveal. I also have 4 kids and a busy life so when I want to do something at home, it does take a long time and it can be a lot of back and forth with decisions. Your home is probably my biggest inspiration for home decor.
Rebecca’s comments were an insightful blessing. Another thought, watchers of this channel are often conservative, creative folks loving , Christ , motherhood and homemaking- it shines in the comments. ( the stove comments were uplifting ). Elizabeth
When you have time could you post the soup recipe? It sounds wonderful! I have to confess that I start thinking about dinner at 5 a.m. Great video, thanks so much.
Hi Andrea. Soup on a gloomy day is such a comfort. A few diy/decor things: wood filler would probably work better on the cabinets than spackle. Then you wouldn't be constrained by the 5" thing. Frustrating... Or you could put little plates (I forget the proper name for them) behind the handles to hide any unsightly marks. the brass looks good and yes more details looked nicer. The chest in your bedroom you worked so hard on would I think look great as your bedside table. Your grandfather's desk is rather dark for that spot. And the new(older) piece put under the window. I kinda work as you do. Have to shuffle things around and give it a few days. Sometimes ideas work - sometimes they really don't. LOL But we have to try don't we. Enjoying your process/journey.😊
I haven’t ever heard the phrase “playing with my home”but I always called it “doing- around” because, except for, far back when my own children were small &/or when I worked very full time I honestly almost always was just too overwhelmed to concern myself with anything but my children.so now: I still call it “doing around” because I do it all together petty much, including cleaning decorating arranging, rearranging stylin’! All of the above 😊
I am so happy you are sharing recipes as I need to add this soup one to my monthly revolving dinners. I still say I would spray paint the hardware a brass finish and spray with a sealer and save yourself loads of money. I have done this for years on my older home hardware, as it is so pricey to change them.
Have you considered using a laminate board that looks like headboard to make inserts on the drawer tops and then using any knob you like over that? This would allow you to have a more cottage look in your kitchen and to add new holes also
great video! I make a potato soup recipe that's similar from Applehood and Mother Pie - but blend about 1-2 cups of the soup and put it back in which makes it even thicker/creamier. I might also add some shredded cheddar. Yum! Your home is beautiful and so serene. Love your style!
When I changed all my hardware to brass, I just used knobs in every hole. I never found any handles I liked so I just put a beautiful brass knob in both holes and it looks uniform, even though throughout the kitchen, the knobs are different sizes (some are oval/egg shaped, and some are round). They’re all unlacquered brass so the material is uniform and I love the mismatched sizes and shapes. I just used matching pairs on the places where there were two holes where a handle had been, but most of my lower cabinets now have egg/oval-shaped brass knobs and the upper ones have round brass knobs. Just an idea if you don’t find handles that you like. ☺️. It is getting harder to find antique ones though but the hunt is part of the fun! NEW unlacquered brass looks antique within a few months if you want that look.
Andrea, could not agree with you more taking time to get things right takes time the only way I do things. When the right thing comes together you’ll know it. yes! I just ordered my Blumene and can’t wait to receive it. Love the honesty about the product from you. Never heard of playing around with my home but it is a fun way of putting it. I just purchased a vintage item at Goodwill and could not wait to get it home and place in the right spot. I love the brass handles on the cupboards, when you find the right brass handle it is going to be a nice complement to the stove. Love everything about your channel. Just got to get my text out this evening. Have a blessed weekend.
It's always nice to see the children. Your home is beautiful and full of love. I appreciate the soup recipe!! I try to shop my home and make subtle changes here and there. I too will host Thanksgiving so I won't be decorating for Christmas until after. Thank you for sharing your family and home!! You always inspire!!
I am 72... and have always called it playing when i decorate. It is such a passion for me, that it feels like play. But, I have a friend who second guesses every single thing she does, so hers feels like work. I say just play til it feels right. Three days later , I can walk by and tweak a vignette. Nothing is stuck in stone. I can't believe that you wouldn't just try brass spray paint on the handles. What do you have to lose? If you are thinking of replacing them, just try it. You obviously loved the style or you would not have them. As for your gorgeous bedroom.... I will always see the bed and brass wall lamps on the window wall. To me , that was so cozy and cottagie . I feel it is more of a focal point on the window wall. But, I know, this is your home, not mine.
I loved this video you are always a inspiration to me I like to take my time decorating and deciding on furniture pieces I want in the space along with decorating I love your cozy bedroom ❤
Andrea, your videos are always so enjoyable. I was one of the ones who ordered a Blumene. It’s so relaxing to use. You are so right about design decisions being difficult. I’m like you, I struggle with making changes myself. However, your style is beautiful and I love your new stove. Your hardware will come. You’ve been so patient when curating your home, so I just know the perfect, sensibly priced hardware will come. Have a blessed day. Try kale in your soup next time. Very yummy. 😊❤😊🙏
I just ordered the same euro covers! I love them! I wouldn’t worry about having any conclusions in your videos! I find your videos so calming and inspiring to my life and I’m sure others do as well! ❤
Is the existing hardware vintage enough? If so, maybe paint it with rub n buff until you find what you really love. I just love your home & your loving spirit!
I wonder if you could find a spray paint or paint that would work on your existing hardware? Maybe check Rustoleum? They make products for metal. I think a rushed decision can not only waste time and money but energy. Taking your time and getting things just like you want it is the best way to love what you end up with. Love the new pillow shams. Blessings
I agree with you! It takes time to curate just the right things. And frankly most of the time there is no rush- unless an appliance broke down or some such thing. I also think it gives space for the Lord to provide. That is my experience anyway xoxo
It a homemade chamber pot cupboard. You store the pot in the cupboard and when you needed to pee in the middle of the night, you would pull out your chamber pot, pee and store it back in the cupboard till morning. It kept a person from having to go outside to the outhouse in the middle of the night.
The brass hardware already makes a big difference. I hope you can finde a style you really like. I would also put the brass lamps by the bed. One way if toning down the orange on the chubboard, is to wipe it with very thinned out white paint. I love your home. Your bedroom looks so harmonious and well put together. And your kitchen looks like you - blonde, with a touch of blue. ☺️
I think you need brighter brass like your stove has. I think it will pull it together better. If you can't find bright or a color you like use some rub and buff. It comes in many finishes. I just love the blue. It matched your eyes.

Thought so too...

I have the same exact type of cabinet as your new one and you need to know- it is a DOUGH CABINET! from mid 1800’s! Look it up, it will bless you so!!
I like your brass pulls from Menards. They don’t draw too much attention and they let the stove be the star of that space!

Andrea, how about a metal plate on the drawer face that would cover the paint scuffs? Then add the handles on top of that. Keep up the good work !!

Maybe you could take one of the drawers to the store. Perhaps they can scan it for a match. Worth a try!
That is a great idea!
This was a beautiful Video. You love your family and home. God bless.
Thank you! 😊
I never like to rush when I decorate! It is a process that’s worth waiting on! So I hope this encourages you to trust your process and heart!

I share the recipe here in my Instagram stories 😊
Thanks!😊
I think that is a blanket chest, love it
Have you considered finding one's you like and using rub n buff to get that antique brass look? And that cookie jar pottery is fantastic!
Thank you! 😊
Your new stove is beautiful. I think the cabinet is for commode but not sure.
Your home 🏡 is so beautiful the stove looks amazing you decorate so lovely love watching your channel.
My grandmother called it piddling.
I am the same way when decorating. I have hard time making decisions. But it does definitely take time & should not be rushed. Just enjoy the process!
Thanks!
I am so happy you are sharing recipes as I need to add this soup one to my monthly revolving dinners. I still say I would spray paint the hardware a brass finish and spray with a sealer and save yourself loads of money. I have done this for years on my older home hardware, as it is so pricey to change them.
Thank you! 😊
Loved this video. The format and content was so good!
😊
Have you considered using a laminate board that looks like headboard to make inserts on the drawer tops and then using any knob you like over that? This would allow you to have a more cottage look in your kitchen and to add new holes also
Have you considered spray painting your handles. I did it in my previous kitchen and it worked well!
great video!
Thank you! Great idea! 😊
The cabinet is an old washstand. I have one just like it
I love this style of video that includes your day with some decor and cooking. love when you share you're healthy meals!
Thank you so much! 😊
I am 72... and have always called it playing when i decorate.
Thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate them! 😊
It's good to take your time on deciding
I couldn't agree more! ❤
I loved this video you are always a inspiration to me I like to take my time decorating and deciding on furniture pieces I want in the space along with decorating I love your cozy bedroom ❤
I love your blue stove 💙. Have you considered painting your current cabinet hardware or using rub and buff?
I would definitely try rub and buff!!
I have the same piece. It is a commode. I was told only 10 were made in that specific style 😊 love your home!
Zuppa Toscana soup. Delicious! Try Kale sometime.
Is the existing hardware vintage enough? If so, maybe paint it with rub n buff until you find what you really love. I just love your home & your loving spirit!
Aww, thank you so much. I feel like the current hardware isn't vintage enough, but I am just trying out different things at this point ❤
There is an identical cabinet at my local auction this weekend. I was wondering what it was as well.
It a homemade chamber pot cupboard. You store the pot in the cupboard and when you needed to pee in the middle of the night, you would pull out your chamber pot, pee and store it back in the cupboard till morning. It kept a person from having to go outside to the outhouse in the middle of the night.
Everything looks so nice!
I really like these brass handles that you have on now. They are nice. Don’t look modern either.
I like this terminology: play with your home. Have not used it before, I will now ☺
It’s always so fun, I guess that’s why we consider it “playing”! 😊
I love your home! I wouldn’t change a thing
I had a pine piece like your new purchase and I remember the dealer called it a dry sink. Looks good in your room.
Thank you! 😊
Glad to see others taking time to make decisions!!
I think you need brighter brass like your stove has. I think it will pull it together better. If you can't find bright or a color you like use some rub and buff. It comes in many finishes. I just love the blue. It matched your eyes.
Thank you! 😊
I am ordering new hardware for our kitchen, to put up until we paint. I am going with Aged Brass from Rejuvenation.🫶🏻
Loved the rainy vlog.🫶🏻
Thanks! 😊
I got my handles from amazon and saved a ton of money!
