The goaltending has taken a step in the right direction, but it's in a division with some of the best goalies in the league. The 1st pairing is greatly improved, but Tanev's style of play gets him frequently injured so you need a lot more depth on the blueline to address that. OEL would be all right on your 3rd pairing but shouldn't be expected to carry the 2nd pairing on a competitive NHL team. The Leafs' defence doesn't stack up well against the top teams in their own division. What they have is the Fab Four, but still not enough strong depth forwards who can play the key roles well that you need to be a top team. Lack of depth is what kills Toronto every playoffs and that hasn't been addressed, except in goal.

Samsonov was bad against TB and Florida just go re-watch the highlights. They only beat TB because their goaltending was worse. He was a key reason the Leafs lost in 5 games against Florida. Soft goal after soft goal. And I am sorry but trading Marner for worse talent is dumb and the people who advocate for that are also dumb. Go re-learn what trading star players for spare parts looks like already if you think it’s a “good” idea. Management clearly realized this was dumb and came to the same analysis. I mean the GM was forced to trade a young star player and he saw the results of that just in the last two years.
As a rangers fan I feel like if Toronto goes to the second round in the playoffs this season it’s gonna feel like a Stanley cup celebration for the fans and the city 😂😂😂😂😂 but I wouldn’t count them out the first round I mean they took the bruins to 7 games and lost by one goal so you never know the outcome when postseason comes around plus if the bruins don’t get swayman signed for all we know they can start being the better team in the division along with the panthers
I think you're overthinking it and it deludes you into some overreaching assumptions. Is the goaltending situation in any way secure? Not really. And also I wouldn't be so high on Knies and Macman
First of all, I would call the Leafs' regular seasons "great", They have good to very good regular seasons but since they haven't won the division since the invention of divisions, I don't think you can call them great. I think there is a wide range of possible point totals for this team. Anywhere from about 96 to about 112. The upper limits suggests that they stay healthy, win their share of overtime games and are able to win more games where they were outplayed than lose games where they outplayed the opposition. I haven't loved them in preseason but it's not much of an indicator of how the season will go. I would predict second or third and around 100-105 points. Boston needs to resolve the goaltending situation or else they could drop down to fourth. Not sure what the Stamkos-less Lightning will be like, but as long as Vasi is healthy you can't bet against them. And is Detroit going to have a more consistent season? Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo would have to make uncharacteristic improvements to feature in the top four or five.

Under and 5th. Relying on a goalie who posted a .500 record and a career backup, neither of who played more than 30 games in a season is extremely delusional. Expecting every player to take a step forward in goal scoring is also laughable. So is thinking Matthews and Nylander are going to show up every game after being paid. Giving the captaincy to a player that doesn’t put in 100% effort every night is also going to affect them. Relying on two +33 year olds to play top 4 minutes, one injury prone, the other a defensive liability doesn’t mean your defence has improved. Thinking that contract distractions, not just for Marner and Tavares, but for Knies, McCabe is going to affect their play. They know the organization can’t afford all of them, and watching. Nylander and Matthews take nights off is going to frustrate them.
Stolarz record doesn't mean his other stats were bad....a career .915 if he only plays 30 and gets that, it's an upgrade He was on a terrible Ducks team most his career and still sits as an average at least goalie

Still won't be good enough in the playoffs . Fully expect a 1st-round exit.
Steve: NOTHING. EVER. HAPPENS.
Lots of hype. No hope
I beleaf
Stranger: the leafs are gonna win the cup i promise you
Me: did they get a new coach
Stranger: yes a coach who won a cup
Me: ok did they improve the defensive core
Stranger: i think so. They got a few decent bottem 4 defensemen
Me: ok now heres the real question. Did they change the core 4 or fire Brendan Shanahan
Stranger: uhhhhhh no
Me: you aint winning no cup and your out in the first round again this year now leave me alone
Stranger: if they do get out of the first round, will you keep watching leafs videos even though they're not your team
You: no, I'm obsessed about them
@geraldmcintee9776 I watch the leafs because I love Steve and I want nothing but the best for him but this year is gonna be nothing cause I don't think they did enough or did what they needed to do
MATTHEWS: ''I am THE CAPTAIN of the Toronto Maple Leafs!"
TYWIN LANNISTER: "A true captain of the Maple Leafs does not need a media scrum to proclaim he is captain."
MATTHEWS: ''I'll fix you! I am your captain!"
TYWIN: ''The captain is tired, please take him to Lord Bieber's Yacht."
TYRION LANNISTER: "You just sent the most powerful man in Toronto to bed without his supper!"
TYWIN: ''You're a fool if you think he's the most powerful man in Toronto"
TYRION: ''A treasonous statement...Matthews is Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs!"
TYWIN: "You really think the "C" on his shirt will change the way he, Nylander & Marner will play in tight checking games and the playoffs?"
(My favourite episode of Game of Maple Leafs!)
Tanev gets injured long term, McCabbe and Marner both get extended for way too much and the leafs miss the playoffs by 1 pt. Oh and Pittsburgh grabs the final playoff spot
LOL i love it
They need to miss the playoffs in order for some real change
Why do you watch this channel?
Devils Leafs ECF
Weak D pairings
This is possibly the worst run it back yet, we actually got worse and expect to still win lol.
I disagree. The defense is better, and golies are deep.
It's definitely better than last year's team. Not drastically better.
@StarFinderWebb the D Core is definitely older and more expensive, dunno about better. That Tanev contract is gross
2 goalies who have never been starters and we are ok? Tanev is on the wrong side of the 30s so 1 injury away from total disaster on defense .
@@Lee-f9w5v murry lol if he's healthy
@@F5BOTD I'd argue it will be gross. It'll be fine until he goes down injured.
Stolarz record doesn't mean his other stats were bad....a career .915 if he only plays 30 and gets that, it's an upgrade
He was on a terrible Ducks team most his career and still sits as an average at least goalie
What a waste of a video .. brokeback leafs are a broken record. Finish top 3 in the Atlantic than get bounced in the first round BOOM! Than crickets from all the laughs fans 😂😂
Leafs do not have a leader. The core 4 have skills but none of them are leaders. None of them are going to play the physical get in your face game and there is no other player on the team that could either. Leafs are built for the regular season. No cup this year and next year they will have more cap problems than this year. More of the same Leaf fans.
can i just say this thing about if auston scores 19 less goals were screwed. even if other people dont score. if we scored 19 less goals last year we would have 284 and be 5th in the league lol. we're gonna be ok guys
narrator - they were booted out once again in the 1st round. players shrugged and went to hang with beiber
I have no faith in Woll and Tanev staying healthy. 🫡
6'7" and just won a cup.
k height is irrelevant.
bob win the cup. stolz sat on the bench.
where do you get this crap from?
