  • The Sri Lankan tuskers have become a rare sight in the wild. Of the total population of elephants, less than 5% bear tusks. While the loss of habitat is one of the main reasons for this, the human-elephant conflict has mass eliminated the aggressive male population from the wild. Over the years, this has caused a change within the gene pool, subsequently reducing the majestic tusker population in the wild.
