- Standing majestically on a plateau above the flood plains of Kashmir are the stupendous ruins of the Sun Temple of Martand. Described as “a dream in stone designed by Titans and finished by jewellers”, the temple of Martand is part of the legacy of the indomitable Lalitaditya Mukhtapid of the Karkota dynasty of Kashmir which was once the centre of a mighty empire governed from the capital city of Parihaspora. Once the city of smiles, it is today a site of ruined stones. We see the glory of Kashmir through the life of one of it’s favourite sons.

in ancient india there were 4 sun temples....Sun temple of martand, konark,motera and the last was sun temple of multan

Bro there is a very ancient sun temple in TN in the town of Kumbakonam on the banks of river kaveri it is also famous
It is present in Anantnag district of jk. Built in 8th century Ad by karkota dynasty ruler Lalitaditya Muktpida. It has the influential of Gandhara, chinese anf gupta style of architecture. It has carving of lord vishnu, goddess ganga and yamuna and sun god

Who the hell allowed shooting of movie "Haider" in this temple? Shame on Shahid Kapoor and the director of the movie Vishal Bhardwaj for desecrating this holy place. We Hindus are our worst enemies. If you don't respect your own civilization, don't expect others to respect it.
It should be preserved....our heritage.... everyone who visits kashmir should visit this place ....tour planners will not show you this place as they hate Indian culture
It was an architectural miracle. Sikandar Sah Mir soilders could not wreck it. So they had to build a massive fire around the temple and fed tge fire for many months exhausting the surrounding forest, so that the stones split and thus the temple chipped as if blasted.
How come we know so less about what kind of engineerings used in these Temples.
Martand sun temple was made by Nagvanshi Kshatriya Lalitaditya muktapida
Durlabhvardhna was father of lalitaditya muktapida who was kayastha so I am also proud to be kayastha
Many Kayasthas are claiming that lalitaditya was Kayastha. Most of these people are shrivastavs, Karn etc but let me set the narrative correct. Most of Kayastha sirname belong to UP. Who have no connection to Kashmir. Kayastha is not even an ethnic group at that time its of recent origin. In Kashmir there were no Kayasthas. It was a title given to administrative officials. Kalhana didn't mentioned the caste of Lalitaditya as many are claiming. He only mentioned that his father was ashvaghasakayastha ie. A official who keeps record of horse fodder. Lalitaditya was a Kashmiri by ethnicity and as most of the Kings of Kashmir he was also a Brahmin.

@@user-iw4cw9lx8t this is the actual fact but people are here not trying to understand it kayastha wasn't an ethical term or caste back then Karkota was the mythical Nag mentioned in Mahabharata which he claimed to be his descendant from and according to puranas Nagvansha was an ancient lineage of kshatriyas and in modern time there are large group of Rajput people are from this clan there are many places in Kashmir named after the nagas like Anantnag kokarnag etc are the proof that this clan once existed there.
@@abhijeetnagvanshi2140 This is the problem with non Kashmiris. They dont know the whole context. Nag in Kashmir means water stream. The name anantnag is because of the god Anant in nagbal, which is in the heart of the city. And Kokernag is a stream of water which according to mythology came into being after Koker (Chicken) scratched the surface and water came out. It has nothing to do with nagvanshi rajputs. Kashmiri are also called nag Brahmins. The worshipper of serpents.
It was actually destroyed by Sikander Butshikan who first looted it and then gave order for its demolition. This temple structure was so huge and large that it took them months to destroy it but even after that they couldn't fully demolish it so they in the end burned the whole structure. The fire kept burning for one year.

Sad that Jihadis destroyed this temple. They did so much damages to ancient Indian architecture all across India.
Sikander butshikan destroyed all the major temples of Kashmir. Even cremation was not allowed in his reign. Atleast 25000 Brahmins were beheaded after torture for not accepting Islam while destroying the Martand sun temple. Donot ever forget that sikander butshikan invited a famous Sufi saint to his kingdom from West Asia and he was the main architect of this genocide. He advised sikander to be a Gazi and a butshikan ( destroyer of idols ) . Yes your same favourite Sufi saints whom you bow to.

@@31pratimashyam A popular misconception. There was Adil Shah and Tipu Sultan and other Islamic invasions in the South as well. As far as Madurai there were onslaughts. May not be as severe as the northern parts, but the southern parts have their own bloody history as well.
This documentary on Martand seems incomplete. Points such as whether Emperor Lalitaditya built this temple afresh or if he renovated and extended older temple, who destroyed this majestic temple and when, how it was destroyed and why the temple was destroyed - unless such points too are covered, this documentary shall remain incomplete!

It was built in 7th century. Some say it could calculate time. It was destroyed in 14 th century by a gent of Timur lung.

If you did not read and check more data about our old India you will see only Mughals in books and unfortunately, our past leaders didn't glorify our past. it's disheartening to know how big SANTAN DHARAM WAS and what kind of Marvellous things they made in their times that we didn't even know.
