For the radio trivia in alph ruins: it was intended to up the chance of finding new forms in the original games but it was bugged and fixed in the remakes
Ahhh that makes sense, although I couldn’t see any code that was intended to do that but failed so I guess they just forgot to implement it, like I said though, it could be there is another aspect to it deeper in the files/code.

Thanks! Yeah the EV tracking is automatic now but it took me a few months on and off to get it up and running. My system actually reads from the game RAM while it plays to pull out various bits of information.

i agree hidden power psychic was almost certainly hte best play, but i can't help but wonder how HP dragon would've compared. no stab, but nothing resists dragon in gen 1, so psychic types and lance wouldve been less of a hurdle. i think psychic would ultimately be faster but i can't help but be curious about the differences
if you actually implemented hidden power as it is in gen 2 and not just the specified one for the unown, I would imagine you'd use unown's special attack stat for its special as it'd make hidden power the same amount of damage regardless of which type it is.
Yeah, since i decided which hidden power I wanted in advance, there was no need to implement it properly, but i’m sure it’s possible to implement it fully by borrowing some code from GSC. My “Shiny Short” series follows a similar concept of borrowing GSC code.
I reckon a team of Unown limited to a certain level - not 5, that would be impossible, maybe level 30(?) could be an interesting playthrough... but then again there just isn't much room for strategy
I'd argue HP Dragon > HP Psychic Because hitting everything for neutral (1 > 0.5) is worth more than STAB(1.5 > 1). Though, it would be nice to actually see a 2nd run for comparison...
@Lowtheo I think “it” is quite possible a well made cup of Yorkshire Tea - and I do indeed have that. I suppose I’m trying to offer something a little bit different. When i recorded my Lugia run - months and months before the video went live, so called “backports” (not fond of that term, but I guess it works) were uncommon and the whole idea of “Porygondolier” is that Pokemon from other regions “Ride” the Porygondola to the Kanto region - or something like that! Anyway adding future mons into the game has become more common but that’s what I see myself doing mostly in the future. (Although I have quite a few other things planned too) For Gen 1 solo runs using Gen 1 Pokemon, I think JRose11 very much has it covered!
Back when Tien was still a good character. He had a great scene against Android 17 and its all been downhill for him since then. Oh dear I’m tangenting…
I think all the scenes with him using the Tri-Beam were his best moments because I'm kind of a sucker for self-sacrifice, but the one that got me the most was the one where he went against Cell for 2 reasons: 1 Hea was WAY out of his depth and still tried anyway and 2 this was not only his own last stand, but the last gasp of relevance for humans in general before Saiyans became the end-all be-all for the series pretty much forever, and I respect the hell out of Tien for giving as much as he did in that moment. But, as you said, we're tangenting here...
We certainly are and good point about his last stand against Cell, I forgot about that one. Let's be fair, it wasn't just Tien that went downhill after the Cell saga. Now I'm wondering how Tien would do against Pokemon Red 🤔
Its not ideal, the implementation of Unown is limited to “X” and Hidden Power is just a base 70 power Psychic type move. I may look at implementing hidden power properly in the future and sharing a patch for the ROM.

Ah yes, the progress bar.. believe it or not i recorded my first solo run (Lugia) back in January and then quickly decided i needed a progress bar. I then spent many many months working on it and them got around to editing the Lugia video a few weeks ago. It updates in real time automatically. Still a couple of issues with it (in particular the Rivals are supposed to walk off but its a bit buggy sometimes) - but its getting there.
This video showed up in my recommended, and I thought it had to be from a large channel because it’s so well made, so I was shocked to see you only had around 100 subscribers, so I decided I needed to increase that number lol. Also I love your pfp

Zapdos I say zap-dos as in two its articuno (uno/1) ,zapdos(dos/2), and moltres (tres/3) and the y in aerodactyl I say silently. I'm not sure if that is a British thing or a pokemon have weird names thing but its suppose to sound like pterodactyl witch i do not sound out the y in at least that's how I think of the names.

Hi, I made a custom build of the emulator I use which displays various info in the status bar. I have an AHK running which reads and interprets that. AHK creates the bulk of the graphics and then its finished off in OBS.
@@AsahiStuff sorry - AHK means AutoHotKey. Its a really easy to use simple scripting language i’ve been using for ~15 years at the point. Great for bodging things together, also really good at reading text from other applications. I’ve used it for automating shiny hunts as well in the past (in emulators). For physical hardware shiny hunt automation i also built a couple of Arduino based rigs but that’s a whole different story 😅

It looks like they vary by trainer in HGSS - not 100% on the details though. in GSC Joey has the average 9/8/8/8 stats as per Gen 1 - either way, it was only ever a top tier Rattata in his head! If and when they remake the Johto games again, they should make it actually max IVs and have it get to level 100 after a few rematches!
In the hard core romhack of leaf green, Garbage Green, you must face the trainers of Kanto with terrible mons, including many of the regular trainers in long gauntlets without healing items. On route one, you can find gimmick pokemon: ditto, delibird, smeargle and... unown. If its special, it can be used on brock, and its decent stats make it generally always a little usable, but, in fact, this unown you present here, high bp psychic, is arguably the single best mon in the game
Also Bulbapedia just has some...? Speculative 'information' on it, especially for oldgen pages that people are not as like to check so often. I swear that line about the radio station being "Ho-Oh's distorted cries and the melody of the Azure Flute"(????) is still on the ruins of alph page lmao

This gave me an interesting idea. What if somebody did a challenge run with Hisuian Unown? Now that Hidden Power is only Unown's signature move, Legends Arceus did something interesting to it. Instead of hitting for a set type, it's now an adaptive move that always changes to a super effective type, prioritizing quad weaknesses. So now the worst Pokemon of all time can be kind of redeemable.

@@NovaCyn The game was almost entirely overhauled somewhere in development, so it was likely removed and forgotten when the region was redesigned.
Its weird that we know about it though 🤔 maybe we know from a beta version

Interesting idea! Given how much trouble I had with the Alakazam and Drowzee in the run, dragon might actually be easier
