One question. Where do times like these plays in competitions? I am planning on competing and am curious about knowing how I'd rank. I am somewhat similar but a bit faster. I average between 17-23 seconds.
Great question! It varies a lot from one competition to the next. I have a comp this weekend and with your time range you would place around 45th out of 80 people, which would very safely advance you to the 2nd round because the top 75% advance (each comp may have a different format though), and at this comp only the top 32 advance to the final round. You can actually look at registered competitors then click on the event icon to see a "psych sheet" to help see where you're likely to place. Example: www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/SwoopinandSolveOxford2024/registrations/psych-sheet/333 Competitions times are often a little slower than at home just because there are more nerves and more distractions going on. It's all about having fun, so I would recommend going no matter what your speed is. Don't wait until you get faster. :)
@solver5ksolves Thank u so much! I've actually participated in multiple competitions just outside of something like this, and a bit smaller. I am very much aware of the nerves it may cause. And each time it had affected me. The best I performed, I captured the bronze. Thank you tho, it was just a bit overwhelming how far I'd possibly rank. I'd join anyways.
