I've just finished it, and my favorite passage is this one:
    "Am I hideous, Jane?"
"Very, sir; you always were, you know?"
"Humph! You wickedness has not been taken away from you, wherever you have sojourned."

I cannot describe with words what this book did to me, I loved it, and It will always be in my heart, the first time I read it, I was really afraid to finish the book, and when I did I cried a lot. Here's my favorite quote:

Jane Eyre I need to read again since I'm not in English class anymore, but I do remembered secretly liking it when most of the class didn't.
I think the reason for that is because Jane knows her boundaries and limits. She straight up called Mr. Rochester's bluff and actually left out of a toxic situation AS SHE SHOULD! Most YA female characters. Could. NEVAH!

I STAN YOU AND CHARLOTTE AND JANE SO MUCH. omg i just finished reading and THIS was exactly my reaction. i too had to stop just right after the marriage proposal because I KNEW. there were still 200 pages left. and i wanted to relish still in the perfect eden of Thornfield's garden.
i relate to Jane in a spiritual level as well. charlotte just speaks to that eternal struggle between the craving of independece but also the craving for love.
and yup, women HAVE had the same taste for men for nearly 200 years.

Ur actually making me cry in the middle of the night reading those quotes, I finished this book a week ago and I’m still LOOSING MY MIND. I’m so glad you pointed out the writing style, like every sentence felt like poetry or a punch to the gut. Brontë expressed moods so concisely w/o ever bluntly stating it. I remember one specific instance where Jane suddenly understood something, and Brontë described it as “a pile of linked chains suddenly being pulled taut” AAAA
And your character analysis was great! I will fight you on ur st john hatred but i felt like you _got_ Jane and Mr. R. You’re very entertaining and I’m happy I got to fangirl with you through the screen =) i’ve got to watch your wuthering hights video, that book was the best descent into insanity I’ve ever experienced

One of my fav books ever.
One of my fav lines are:
“I can live alone, if self-respect, and circumstances require me so to do. I need not sell my soul to buy bliss. I have an inward treasure born with me, which can keep me alive if all extraneous delights should be withheld, or offered only at a price I cannot afford to give.”

Love the video, your emotions were fantastic! It is a great book and I'm from the UK and I put off reading classic books all the time. I've recently listened to the audiobook and this book is amazing. I suggest the audiobook read by Thandiwe Newton. Her performance is mind blowing. It's not just read allowed like most books. The voices are properly distinct and the accents are ludicrously accurate. I think if you enjoyed this book as you showed perhaps listening to a great performance will add more dimension particularly genuine British voice.

Hi! I've only just seen this video and at around 3:10, you say your fave could never be like I love you but I can't be with you because you're unhealthy/bad for me. You're right, no one's fave could ever, but there's another spin on the line you read out, and Jane's motivation to leave in general, which no one's fave could ever ever. It may not be "you're bad for me", it may actually be "this is bad for you". Jane is an extremely religious person so at that point, she became the self appointed caretaker of Mr Rochester's soul. He was too weak to see that infidelity eternally damns your soul, so she makes the more spiritually sound choice for him. That throws this character straight into "your fave could not even if you and the fave had a fever dream", what with her foresight and steadfastness to her and her partner's spiritual (at the very least, if not religious) health even though it costs both of them dearly.

i looove jane eyre with all my heart its probably my fav book, but have mixed feelings with it. i sometimes hate it, cause the novel shows two faces of everything. its very sweet and tender and veeery dark and twisted at the same time.
i hate rochester(though he is sweet sometimes and you feel pity for him) and i understand that the fact he is 'the bad guy' has a feminist porpouse in the story, but i feel charlotte did romanticize violence a bit when she wrote him as a byronic hero, and that really bothers me.. they have this horrible and lovely, perfect and tragic toxic relationship, and it bewitches me, and i believe thats why its a classic. there is something magical about it. loved your review!!!

When Charlotte published it, she used a man's name at first because no publisher would take her seriously. When the book was a HUGE hit, she showed up at the office and was like, I WROTE IT!!!! If you can, you should really watch The Brontes of Haworth 1973 mini. Amazing story of the Brontes, just as angsty. I loved the part when she was saying that your principles are not to be compromised when things get wacky, that is exactly when you have to stick to them, when your mind, body, and heart are warring against each other. Her strength is so amazing. I could never do it. I would have put my hand on that doorknob and went into his room instead of leaving.

Jane eyre is my favourite novel since I was a child, but Rochester is a huge, huge, DICK. After keeping the whole crazy wife in the attic schtick a secret, he had the balls to ask her to run away with him and pose as his mistress. I stan Jane for leaving him, but I never like that she went back to him, idc he’s blind and crippled. I’ve learnt to not read it as a love story, but a story of a woman finding her inner strength and being more empowered as she goes through life.

She wrote to her best friend that she threw up everything she ate and even blood. She died of dehydration something that could be taken care of today. The whole Bronte family had tragic ends except the father.

I love the story of Jane Eyre. It's a story for men and women. Something about the mystery of it. The pain and rags to riches quality.

This is great to see from someone -only very slightly- younger than me. Also, I’m a chandelier enthusiast so, well done again. Rochester. Could have been violent, but when he found his soulmate he says he could bend her, break her with his hands and still the soul he loves would not be his. Every principled woman, every lover who truly is in love, should be strong enough to leave when they’re so distraught they can barely speak. Delight in sacrifice because giving in to being the second wrong would have made everything terrible.
St. John is a tyrant, Jane is cute teasing R to get him to feel more deep kinds of love again, you need God in this, who do you think got them to hear each other? And don’t you go near Louisa she toiled in real life. And... I’m jealous of your chandelier with your slang I mean I’m probably younger than you not that it matters. The Brontës had it rough, and yet they were all literary geniuses.

Can you recommend a novel that would have a narrative similar to that of Jane Eyre? It should be first-person, but also... it should be so honest and fresh. What I like about Jane is the self-reflection and high level of self-awareness of the heroine. She tries to describe her own interior clearly, honestly, and come to terms with herself. In general, the author undoubtedly shows psychological "tendencies" and if she lived in today's times... well, I would tell her that I found examples of reflection, clarification, fight and flight mode, cognitive dissonance, etc. (and to be super honest, prejudices and stereotypes too :D). I would be grateful for recommendations of such psychological novels. It would be great if it was also a morally uplifting book.
