What I like about the old 30 30 Winchester is it’s balance. With a little practice you can bring it up and the sights will line up instantly. I no longe4 even really look at the sights, I look at were I want to aim, bring the gun up to my shoulder and squeeze off the round in one smooth motion. The lever is nice for a quick second shot but I haven’t needed that second shot since I was about 10 years old which is another advantage of the 30 30, low recoil. Low recoil means you can teach your kids to shoot it safely from a young age, I started shooting my grandfather’s 30 30 at 8 years old and was dropping deer that first year.

The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

The "problem" that has always plagued Ruger concerning hunting rifles is that they build them like pistols.
      Too short of barrels!!
If I can't aquire a Ruger or Marlin rifle in 24 - 26 inches in a 45-70 with more than a four round magazine, than I'll go somewhere else.
They have have that fabulous 375 Ruger Magnum cartridge and they won't make it any longer than 23 inches with a muzzle break in a bolt action! Pathetic.....
It will take Remmington or Winchester to come out with a hunting bolt action rifle in 375 or 416 Ruger Magnum at 24-26 inches with a great barrel and chassis.
Then hunters will be all over them like Weatherby's, Nosler or a decent Browning at a great price.
I understand this fad with short 16-18 inch lever guns, but theres a whole bunch of us out here that enjoy 22-26 inch barrel's out here for a little more distance shooting with accuracy and knock down power than a 50 yard brush gun.

I own 7 favorite lever action rifles. The last 6 went straight into my collection, and the other (older) one is a real tack driver. They are:
Henry Big Boy in .357 Magnum
Henry Big Boy in .44 Magnum
Henry Big Boy in .45 Long Colt
    Henry H001 in .22 LR
    Henry H001T in .22 LR
Henry Golden Boy in .22 LR
Marlin 336 SC in .219 Zipper (pre-crossbolt "safety")
The Henrys all have beautiful wood stocks and I have restocked the Marlin.
    I only have two gripes:
The Golden Boy should have the receiver drilled and tapped because the existing way to mount a scope is not that great.
To develop a good load for a centerfire .22 (like the .219 Zipper) pointed bullets are required, which means the rifle is best used as a single shot.

I bought a Browning "1892" B92 reissue in .357Mag when it was "reintroduced" in 1982 to go along with numerous Colt and S&W and a Ruger Blackhawk revolvers I own and hunt with (a pistol scope one my 78 Ruger Blackhawk SA). All these together, without all the add-on crap your video shows, just plain Jane OEM are not only the perfect "survival" guns, but also incredible hunting weapons. I've taken down probably 50 Russian Blueboar's around the Monterey Peninsula (CA), mule and whitetail deer, Javalina in Arizona and NM, Black Bear's all over CA, Oregon and Nevada and a couple Elks up in hunts in Idaho. However, my preferred "Lever" is my 1951 Marlin 336R (Full rifle length barrel) in .35 Remington. I've taken down a giant Bull Elk and a Grisly in Alaska with ONE shot each, and literally a hundred Deer over the 73 years of my life in hunting (I started hunting with a Grandfather and Dad, at 11 years old..)

I have a 2nd series Mini-14 Rancher (in SS) but thin barrel & no built-in scope mounts that I would trade for anything, except the newest ones which are even better. The Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks are still excellent and so are their tradional "fast draw" SSA Ruger versions. Ruger's all metal 9mm and up caliber SA Pistols are excellent too. Everything else aside, I was personally glad to see some people that knew how to properly shoot and not take the rifle down and gaze at it while working the action. So many tens of thousands of bolt shooters do that now, many of them dropping the rifle nearly to belly button level and bowing their head to gaze at it while gingerly working the bolt. I
would guess that's why so many have gone to semi auto's.
I can't even imagine how the poor habit of taking your eye off the target, and dropping your rifle out of proper position got started after so many years of American shooters being so successful and using proper form. I have my own theories, but I'll keep them to myself.
Good shooting (to those who did it
correctly- the others need to go practice more)

From a safety standpoint 44 magnum in a rifle is to much power for home defense. Leverevolution ammo from my All Weather big boy is pushing 1950 fps, which would penetrate multiple walls in most homes, possibly striking someone in another room. I keep my Ruger revolver loaded with 44 special rounds, so if grand kids are there when someone breaks in, it's less likely to go through the entire house striking one of them.
