I hear what you saying about penix but here's what I realized about the pick and getting kirk...kirk is for trying to desperately win not Arthur blank isn't getting any younger he wants to win now but he is also trying to prepare for the future kirk is older coming off an Achilles we all seen what happened to Aaron last year right on top of that we knowing we will have a good enough team that we won't be picking in the top ten again no time soon not to mention at the time the tampering thing where they may have taken away our first round pick so we grabbed our guy that we believed in now a plug in ready young qb ready to go if kirk gets hurt
Credit to the falcons for seeing around the immediate corner. Every year teams dump a first round pick into a QB that definitely could use a year to develop and media says “you took them in the first you have to play them”. And then 80% of them bust immediately despite the talent. And waste 3 more years trying to rebuild the confidence which rarely happens before they are cut.
@@MathisNFL that’s not a “problem” lol. That’s a luxury. To be fair dude didn’t finish half of those seasons, he certainly didn’t have 6 years worth of games played. Falcons have a QB for this year locked in and Penix if things go to hell. Count me out on taking a flier on a QB in round 3 just because you have Cousins for a couple years. You see your QB of the future you take them, period. That’s just me though.
@@geraldsmith1916 Yes! You do take him, but you don't pay another one 100 million. You sign Sam Darnold or another CHEAP bridge QB to start until he's ready. And by the looks of it, already keeping Penix out of 2 preseason games, it looks like he already is ready to go!
@@MathisNFLit’s not that he is ready it’s that they are scared. The first week they lost 3 players for the entire year including one of their draft picks. And then they immediately lost the replacement they got for I think the year as well. Then on top of that the Vikings QB got hurt as well for the year. I would sit my QB down too especially since the starting QB is coming off an injury as well. Especially when I’m sitting my starting line
@@MathisNFL I hear you, one thing, Sam Darnold and winning don’t go together lol. Another is you are ASSUMING they already had Penix which they didn’t, he was there at 8 and they didn’t want to pass him up. If they think he’s a franchise QB, which you can’t always be in a position to get, 36 year old Kirk cousins stopping you from taking them would be insane imo, to take a pass rusher or receiver which always seem available every offseason or via trade. Him sitting for a year or 2 is far from the worst thing. The worst thing would be to sign a bridge QB like Mariota(Darnlod) and just hope a QB you like appears out of thin air for a few years. That’s just me though.
@MathisNFL you're proving my point. Signing Cousins could be huge barring another injury but if he does get injured who would want to rely on Sam Darnold. That's what Penix is for and for the Falcons future.
😂Sam has never been better than kirk in his life and I'm willing to bet penix will be better than sam to but sam looks more comfortable this yr but then again its only preseason so 😂@keithcato9388
I’m still blown away that people do not realize that the offense it to blame from last year and the defense picked up the slack. Wake up!! Watch. This season is it for the Falcons. It’s gunna be crazy.
You got one tiny detail wrong that changes so much. The falcons defense wasn’t that bad last year they were only missing one or two pieces. They were still ranked in top half but just struggled getting sacks that’s it. Then they got gassed because they were always on the field due to terrible QB play which I still can’t blame Ridder for completely because Arthur smith didn’t give this guy a QB coach or a solid veteran to learn from so he just threw him out there and destroyed his confidence. With a QB now the offense should do better which in return should help the defense. As far as penix if this plan does go accordingly when is the next time the falcons will be in position to draft a QB without having to give up a ton of capital. And to go further those back up QB have been around the league for a reason so giving them a chance would literally put the falcons in the same problem they found themselves in for the past 3yrs. Also the chances of them playing is abnormally high as well considering there were 66 different starting QBs last year. Signing Kirk gave the falcons the best chance to win now. Drafting penix was correcting the mistake they made with Matt Ryan
im glad you said that, only people that watched the falcons last year would know how solid the defense really was. even special teams was putting the defense in bad positions last year

I disagree about Penix being ready right now. Yes he is developed but he doesn't understand NFL defensive schemes yet. He is in a perfect situation to develop into an elite qb for over a decade. We have two top tier qbs, those are the hardest to draft and acquire in free agency, every other position is easier to get.
@ris3reborn263 he's a rookie, how is he or any other rookie qb supposed to know pro football schemes? These kids may be more ready than they used to be coming out of college but it's still next level.
Penix isn’t being “shelved” he’s learning, getting better and he’ll be ready day one when we move on from Cousins. There was no overwhelming day one DE who was going to make some colossal difference. Now they won’t be in the same situation they were in when Matt Ryan was traded. Also, despite how they got there almost every team need has been addressed.
Ah yes, let's go from Ridder to Sam "seeing ghosts" Darnold. I dont necessarily agree on using a top 10 pick on someone who will sit for at least 1 year either, but at least we have a succession plan. Plus, Penix will able to learn a lot behind Kirk
I will never understand how fans just watched the Falcons basically run with Mariota and Ridder, who is basically what you’re getting with Darnold and Rattler and are suggesting they should have done that again vs taking a stud in Penix. Make it make sense.
I don’t think any of you guys have comprehension skills. I said sign a QB LIKE DARNOLD to be a BACKUP/BRIDGE QB to COUSINS or PENIX, NOT to be the full time starter. How is this so hard to grasp?
@@MathisNFL Why is wasting time with a lesser QB worth it? Kirk is 36. What if he goes down again, which is very possible? You want to hinge the season on Darnold? Lol again they did that with Mariota.
