  • #ilovervlife #mayberrycampground #mtairync Joan and I were looking for a fun place to visit in the upper part of North Carolina. We found Mayberry Campground located in Mt. Airy, NC. Mayberry Campground is located minutes from the interchange of I-77 and I-74 a few miles from the Virginia State line. We found the campground to be big rig friendly with easy access to enter the campground as well as the multitude of camping sites.

I grew up in Mt. Airy and Pilot Mountain my whole life and it's great to see how people view the two towns a bit, from an outside perspective.
We're a pretty small and simple town, but I hope people were friendly enough to you guys. You should visit in the Fall! The trees are so brightly colored and Pilot Mtn. has some cool car shows! 😊

Hi Adriana. It is a pretty town and everyone was so friendly. We should have stayed longer. There were so many things we didn’t see. One favorite memory was Joan sitting in the rocking chairs at Wally’s Filling Station. Two fellows who drove the old squad cards were there. She talked with them for an hour. Slow tourist day and all were just enjoying the chat. A scene straight out of Mayberry. We’re looking forward to coming back.

I live here in Mount Airy. Nice place to live. Beautiful scenery but 601 and 52 businesses are not very appetizing. Main Street is nice but it's simplistic. Mayberry Days is a terrible festival being a local. The Autumn Leaves Festival is incredibly nice, what's not to like about homegrown bluegrass and fresh food stands. The main street has a nice antique mall with a decent record store in the basement. The museum is nice and filled with interesting factoids and memorabilia of The Andy Griffith empire. Lots of classic cars to see around town. Almost like it's ripped straight out of the 50s with modern vehicles. It's just sad to see how bad some of the smaller cul de sacs have turned out but it isn't too big of a deal.

Looks like a great campground and certainly caters to the larger rigs. In the fall and early spring I like these types of sites because the temperature is mild and you generally get a good steady breeze that can flow through your rig (I enjoy having the windows open...unless the pollen is in full swing :-( ), but now in the summer it is a little to hot for me to not have any shade at all. Here in the foothills of NC it is 92 right now and Mount Airy shows 90!
If Mayberry is full or you want a little more secluded camping experience, there is also Byrds Branch (ATT Cell and camp wifi is good) which is a smaller park, just outside Stone Mountain Park and within 15-20 minutes of 18 wineries as well as a short hike to Carter Falls and Grassy Creek Vineyards. Stone Mountain State Park has a lovely campground as well (but no cell signal or wifi) and I think is one of the nicest NC State parks in the area. There is a little more "nature" in both these parks but awesome hiking trails and like Byrds and Mayberry CC, close to many vineyards. Both are about 20 minutes from Mount Airy.
Thanks again for sharing...glad you are enjoying my back yard! Should have a meet up next time you are through!

Also if you ever have any RV or automotive issues while you are here just call lesters towing in lambsburg. They have 10 to 12 mechanics geared towards rigs and bigger vehicles such as rvs. They are open 7 days a week and the owner will get you back on the road again asap. Just ask for Jason.

What about skoolie’s do they have any restrictions against those. I would really like this to be our first stop loved Andy and the rest of the gang

Hey ya'll from Billings,Montana..it's hot-Hot-Hot. Never been to N.C. The Lots are big and looks cooler in temp.. Did you say wine ??? WHAT! . Now I DO have to put that on on list. Well let me suggest; a scooter for Jerry to get around these campgrounds. Happy Trails, from Lady Jay

Hi Lady Jay. We made it to 2 vineyards. There were 30 in the area within 30 minutes. Editing the video this week. Both tour and vineyards. And the wines were superb.

Did you use your Passport America rates? Looked like a great campground. We are definitely going to make that a trip to Mt Airy and visit. I think being in No. Va. and when we get our RV , that would be a really good (one of first’s) camping adventure to take while we learn what the heck were doing. Thanks again for great spot and things to do.

We didn’t have to use our PA. It’s good for 2 weekdays. We were there for a full week. It’s pay for 6 get the 7th free. Price works out to be the same. Nice campground and perfect spot to see the area.

I Love RV Life Hey Jerry, yep I should have remembered from reading up on passport American, which is a great deal, that it was only for a day or two. I was checking out the Campground website and saw that deal. I agree , very nice deal and so much to see. We are really hoping to get the RV next spring. Thanks......
