I think they did turn to Cieth. However, normally when l'cie turn to cieth they fail their focus and live in a never ending regret manifested in their memories of failure...but light and the others had memories of their journey, of their struggles and how they overcame their fears. Thats why they were able to turn back to human despite failing their focus. :)
@TheXenatron They managed to regain their humanity by remembering everything that led them to this point of the game-friends,loved ones,emotions...It all served to remind them they need to carry on,in a way they found new hope and saw dreams of a better future,so they came back from being Cie'th to finally destroy Orphan

@Shadowabliss Yup. Hope's a medic, must have used cure. His l'Cie abilities are canon, they're not just in the battles.
