I don’t normally comment theorizing on songs, but this one is just too good and there’s too few people talking about this one and I love it badly. Anyways, something I never see talked about in detail is the flashback sequence at 2:22 , specifically about the doc in the part at 2:35 . Something about them being alone in the bathtub like that, and the way the nurse reaches her hand out at her along with the cut-ins of the medicine trays makes me really think that maybe the doc tried to off themself but the nurse saved them with the medicine? Although the nurse didn’t seem to be holding any pills in the shot where we can see the hand grab at the docs. But maybe the medicine and being brought back from death is why the doc has blue skin and are also immune to the zombies? That part and the part of the song mentioning “I’m a heavy user” before the flashback sequence really makes me think a lot about that part like this. (Thank you for reading this ramble)
This is maybe a little late, but I just read your comment and wanted to say that I understood it the same way. I think the doc invented the medicine and was very loved and hyped for it, then it came out it had the side effect turning people zombie. Everyone hated them now and turned their backs so they commited suicide. But the nurse (maybe the sister bc of the same hair color as seen in the end) saved them by using the medicine to turn them zombie.
@@chookitypah8305 maybe not by turning him into a zombie, but rather to make him immune? Or maybe by saving him after trying to commit, he got immune by himself
For the record I think it's worth commenting on how much the lyrics seem to be commenting on prescription medicine, with the chorus sounding like someone begging their doctor for them while insisting they don't have a problem and aren't addicted; and the song itself keeps talking about "being on the gray zone between legal and illegal". Whatever is going on with the MV has to be some sort of analogy for these themes I think
Hello, just read the comment from Heaven Dope and I discovered something. Both of the character were dead but the nurse was already dead at the very beginning while the doctor died later.
I love how there's audibly very little instruments used, yet the music never felt empty. It kinda makes every bit of the song stand out a bit more, and makes the silence after finishing the song a bit more unbearable than usual, lol.

the news line text at 2:33 is in shona, a language spoken in zimbabwe. it translates to “side effects of the drug” leads me to think that the “medicine” shown in the video is something that was meant to bring the dead back to life, but turns them into zombies instead. the doctor was responsible for the invention of the medication, so he caught all the backlash when things started going wrong. as shown in the flashback scene, this led him to suicide. however, the nurse used the medication on him to bring him back, hence why his skin is blue and he’s portrayed as a zombie.
I posted this as an answer to a thread but figured I should post an independent comment to my theory too: 1) Doctor and Nurse's relationship (let's call the Nurse Rinu) - There's a theory of them being siblings/twin and I want to debunk that + While they share same hair color (and to a lesser extent, skin color) at the end. Their eyes is the biggest against this theory, Rinu has big eyes with green iris while Doctor has very edge eyes with orange iris. You would think if they are sibling, their eyes would share common design at least. + In the illustration design vid (here: m.ruclips.net/video/-TscYNfgMbA/видео.html&t ) Doctor went through so many designs, and most of them look very different from each other. While Rinu has been consistently being the same design. That's for me is the indication that there's no intention from the creators of the vid to design Rinu and Doctor as siblings/twin. + In the flashback at 1:16 , it shows a young Doctor holding hands with who presumed to be their parents. If they are siblings/twin, you would think Rinu would be in the flashback picture of Doctor's family too. - In the Nico version with two exclusive scenes of that version of Rinu. The first one is she woke up from her hospital bed, assumingly, cured from her "disease" by the Doctor. The next one is she wandering the street with a totally different clothing that isn't a nurse clothing, goggles and brown clothing. It depicted she's looking at the crowd of people and immediately in the next scene, it's the Doctor being forcibly interview by tabloids. That's the moment she found out about the news of Doctor being blamed for the "apocalypses". There's a clear time gap between she went from a patient to a wandering civilian to a nurse showing up to assist the Doctor. It's even likely that she learn to become a nurse (not a nurse before becoming a patient) to help the Doctor after finding out about the blaming news. Cause she was saved by the Doctor and want to repay him. Bonus point: I think Doctor's final design aka the canon one is meant to be androgynous with no specified gender to represent all doctors as of course both men and women work in the field. Doctor went through a lot of redesigns in the design illustration vid, both very male and female looking. The final design is meant that Doctor is androgynous and that's just the Doctor, no label needed. Though... Doctor's name might be Emma due to lyrics...And the line "So, put my tongue out. Mr. Emma" hint at the Doctor being male so now this is just a confusing topic. I chose to believe the androgynous more though. 2) Doctor is NOT the Apocalypses starter (Analyzing the flashbacks) - The title of the song: "Doctorine". It's a pun combining the word "Doctor" and "doctrine". The word "doctrine" means "a statement of fundamental government policy" or "a military principle or set of strategies". It sound suspiciously like Doctor is the scapegoat for the blame here and the government is the one who caused the apocalypses. I mean there are definitely the presence of the government and military in the MV: Helicopter dropping "pills" (aka bombs), the three people holding protest sign and TV News tabloids interviewing Doctor and the TV tagline blaming Doctor to be the one who cause it. "Side migumisiro yemushonga", the tagline on the news, translated to "side effects of the drug" in Shona Language. - The "orange" pills and the "syringe". Doctor was never depicted with a pill imagery. While the government did with the helicopter dropping "pills". Looking at the flashback sequence of how things transpire again. The patients lying down on the bed with a grieving family member by their side, then a syringe was injected into them and they woke up. The doctor's drug cure is the syringe, not the pills, which are heavily hinted to the cause of the "apocalypses". - Then why did seemingly, only Doctor's patients became zombies? It's because of the orange pills. It's very likely that the "orange pills" affect the patient's post-cure body and disease to cause them to become zombies. - But then where did the "orange pills" come from and why did the patient take it instead of Doctor's syringe cure? Here's the lyrics: "The crowd over-hype it as a great doctor, and abandon it instantly If they don’t need." The people immediately abandon Doctor's syringe cure after the patients are out of the hospital and went on to give the patients "orange pills" The "orange pills" are most likely something the government gave out. And it turned out badly, the government proceed to blame it all on the Doctor as a scapegoat. - Why do you think the Doctor is not to blame? The existence of Rinu. Rinu was the Doctor's patient too and she was obviously cured from the diseases, but she never became a zombie. Which prove, the cure did work with no side effect. Rinu also didn't take the "orange pills" so more evidence to the fact that Doctor's cure works as intended and the "orange pills" are to blame. - The zombies wears "orange" clothing. The "orange pills" are to link with the cause of zombie apocalypses, not the doctor's syringe cure. The imagery is enough said. - What's the nature of the "orange pills"? From the line of "heavy user" and some addictive drug imagery, it really looked like those "orange pills" are "happy drug" that the government administrated. Very "We Happy Few" (the game) of dyspopia world. And those happy drug clashed with Doctor's patient's body post-hospital. - Why do you think the "orange pills" are addictive drug? The Doctor, he went blue, could be said it's imagery to depression, but also can be an imagery to addiction. He clearly depressed after being blame as the cause of the apocalypses. He almost die in the bathtub even if Rinu wasn't there. It's possibly he took too much "orange pills" and became like that. 3) The Doctor and Rinu's process to help the zombies in the present day: - It sure looked like Doctor and Rinu went gangster on killing zombies, but they actually aren't. It's a fun imagery of showcasing that the zombies are "challenge" (the game over screen has "challenge" as map name) that Doctor and Rinu are trying to tackle, don't take them shooting guns and canon seriously. But why do you think those imagery aren't literal? Well, if Doctor and Rinu are actively trying kill the zombies, why not just let the government bombed it all? Why did they need to go into "ground zero" and shoot them by handguns and canons? It's just stylized sequences to show that Doctor and Nurse are trying to tackle the zombie's problems head on. - Not all zombies are mindless being, this is the intention of the funny Doctor/Rinu/Zombies hanging out. They are dancing with each other, playing video games, singing karaoke, taking selfie. Not all zombies are mindless beings and Doctor and Rinu are trying to show the world that. You can see all 3 of them holding signs to protest the government. Assumingly, protest the notions that all zombies should be bombed without an effort to cure them. - The Doctor and Rinu seem to be immune to the zombie disease? Well, actually no. From what we theorized, the zombie don't transmit through biting and such. It's a drug problem. The zombies's behavior could be simply mindless violence outburst and decrease in intelligence from addictive drug. Not actual "zombies" that we know it in popular media. - The zombie transmit is definitely not through bites because once again, looking at the scene where the kid hurting his family as zombies at 2:30 . None of his family members turned into zombie despite obviously being scratched and bite from kid zombie's violence outburst. - The Doctor though, his body and health is possibly the lead to cure the zombie. His body turned blue from taking too much "orange pills". The "orange pills" we know that cause the apocalypses. It seem like Doctor is likely a half-zombie due to overtaking of the drug but without the side effect of the other zombie so if we examine his body, we might find the clue for the cure. The scene of a zombie examining the Doctor's mouth is to showcase that. - The game over screen and their life going down is them keeping failing in their search for cure, to overcome the "challenge". It's a long and tedious process and they keep failing. - At the near end, where the giant zombie pushed out his shell to reveal it's a giant Doctor. I think the scene to illustrate Doctor's inner turmoil and also his position. This is the scene where he burst out and want to scream after he once again fail in his path to search for the cure. The lyric said: " Well, Goodbye “Doctorine". No one can compete with you. Please live with your role. Hope you live long enough." Then Doctor proceed to blast beam the city Godzilla style. They had gave up, they can't "compete" with the accusation that they are to blame as the cause of the apocalypse anymore. They accepted the "role" of one to be blamed and gave up. As he fell down onto the ground and fainted. - But there's a glimmering of hope. At the end of the vid, Doctor's body is seemingly back to normal. His skin turned back from being blue. He's cured? And this maybe the breakthrough they need to help all the zombies out there. And once again, Rinu reached out to Doctor and Doctor took her hand. They stood up and continued walking toward the unknown future.
I’m not gonna comment on most of this but it says Enma-san in the Japanese (the English subtitles changed it to Emma), Enma is the king of hell who determines if you go to hell or heaven or something like that.
No offense, but I remember hearing that doctorine was a Japanese word/loan phrase meant to refer to female doctors. The old woman doctor on Drum Island from One Piece is called Doctorine for this reason.
Btw I’m pretty sure the doctor’s name is not Emma. The illustrator calls the doctor ドク which is read as doku which is prolly meant to be doc, but it could possibly be read as poison in Japanese
Only Niru can achieve this stylisg aesthetic atypical of the Vocaloid MV and not only that, his music is magnificent. Congratulations on those 3 years, Niru is one of my favorite Vocaloid producers and with songs like these you can see why. I hope to continue supporting in the future.

+ While they share same hair color (and to a lesser extent, skin color) at the end.
2) Doctor is NOT the Apocalypses starter (Analyzing the flashbacks)
- The title of the song: "Doctorine".
3) The Doctor and Rinu's process to help the zombies in the present day:
- It sure looked like Doctor and Rinu went gangster on killing zombies, but they actually aren't.
The lyric said: "
Well, Goodbye “Doctorine".
@@amandadane868 I look and I can't find any definition for the word Doctorine in dictionary, even in Japanese.
@@AwesumVloggin And apparently parents tell their children that if they lie, Enma will pull out their tongue
