Thanks. Im a 66 year old female and I have to do some of my own mechanic work. Your show gave me a few pointers on how to take my radiator cap off first before I remove my thermostat. Thanks so much Sir.
Thanks bro great tips in this video. good detail but not too much talking. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I'm about to use all this information right now. New Sub. Keep it up bro
I replaced thermostat today, no rtv used and looks like no leaks. My symptoms were the van would overheat but cool back down within 30 seconds or so. One of my rad fans wasn’t working either so I replaced that first but it still was overheating. Van had 244k on the clock so I figured why not just replace tstat for 10-15 dollars seeing it was original. Seemed like the old one was showing symptoms of sticking/getting lazy. Seems to have fixed the issue as it used to go up to halfway mark before cooling down even before the overheating issue, now it’s 1 tick under halfway when the tstat opens. Used gates tstat and fel pro gasket and no rtv/gasket maker just cleaned surfaces pretty well. Had to file down edge of new tstat a tad bit since it wasn’t fitting in the old housing perfectly, a new housing might have been a slightly better route but the van has 244k and I spend about 90 on the new rad fans so wanted to keep the bill around 100. Hope this helps someone if u have same symptom of overheating then cooling down pretty quickly (some people might have watched the videos for other years/engines so I figured I’d mention the gasket maker)
Great vid...I think you said it in the video but did you empty all of coolant? Painful because mechanic just flushed system and now wants to charge me for thermostat. Looks pretty quick w the exception of draining coolant.
Question, is it possible to replace it with the coolant still in the system or did you refill all the coolant afterward?. I imagine you'd have to put a bucket down to collect the coolant if I took it off with the coolant still in the resivoir
@@FalconsGarage My new gasket had a square flange. I was forced to modify it. I checked the numbers, same part, different gasket. Seems to be so far, so good.
Can you also use a fel-pro gasket like 35651 in addition to the O ring rubber gasket or is it supposed to be one or the other? My last rubber one failed in 1.5 years.
did you replace the radiator because it was leaking? or you just thought it was the problem? also sounds like you have an air pocket somewhere on the system

dont have to, but you will spill some while replacing the thermostat .. just be ready to catch it
Excellent video brother!!
Glad you liked it
Awesome quick video .. more for the grand caravan and I’ll subscribe
Darryl M thanks
Easy peezy thx you just saved me a few
10 mm 2010 thermostat had blown apart, thanks

"keep your hood up" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah. I use to think it was a good slogan.
Hi, I’m having a leak right in that spot where The10 mm bolts go. Is this the same symptom you had?
might be that gasket
Gasket bro just changed it today gasket cost like 14$
Thanks for taking the time to educate us out here in the real world!!!👍👍👍😁🙋
Any time!
Question? I have a 07 caravan and when driving the heat will get hot for about a min then goes to cold. Is that going to be the thermostat?
or it could be your blend doors .. check the coolant hoses goin into the firewall(heater core) are they hot?
I have a coolant leak from there. Could the thermostat be the cause or something else?
could the hose clamp or the gasket from the housing
not a 10mm on my 08 grand caravan was a 13mm
👍
Thanks, good vid!
I'm glad i was able to help!
I added the mega grey glue when putting it back togethed
Well don vid. Thanks, you helped me.
Glad it helped

What’s that one large silver part call, right below the thermostat hose
If your taking about the “pipe” under it. It’s actually a heat shield that covers up the exhaust pipe
Do you have to bleed the coolant system afterwards?
yes, always "burp" the system after dealing with coolant system
Can you also use a fel-pro gasket like 35651 in addition to the O ring rubber gasket or is it supposed to be one or the other? My last rubber one failed in 1.5 years.
I would use what the dealer calls for. Only use the rubber one
@@FalconsGarage Thanks, didn't know if you can mix it
Thank you.
Thank you
On a 2013 model is the thermostat located somewhere else?
I believe on the 2011 and up the thermostat if on the front of the engine on top of the belts
does anyone have the part number for the OEM thermostat gasket?
👍
I don't believe you need a separate gasket, the rubber is the gasket.
Does this fix the heat not blowing?
FreeGod Sa'Vii could be part of the issue. Do the heater hoses going into the firewall heat up at all?
Falcon's Garage not sure, recently it was overheating, so eye reclamped the radiator hose but shortly after the heat stop blowing hot air
did you replace the radiator because it was leaking? or you just thought it was the problem?
also sounds like you have an air pocket somewhere on the system
Falcon's Garage eye didn't replace it, eye just reclamped it. It stopped overheating after that. But now the heat doesn't work
ok.. misread it. but yeah I would say you have an air pocket somewere
good vid
Thanks!
Thanks so much and a VW and no will touch it.. like old white sugar..
Is it the same with dodge 2010 3.3L model? Thanks
Yes
great video......short, accurate, to the point
