It's a shame they got rid of these beautiful aircraft 😢 I remember seeing them going off to the Falklands plus being a military wife seeing them on the base I absolutely loved them. Thank you yet again Dafydd a million times over I've saved every single one and will carry on doing. Thank you so much
So US Herc memory. One of my favorite days of my almost 6 years in the US Army was observing 130s do multiple rough short field landings and T/Os at Ft Campbell. I was amazed at how rough of a road these birds can land on. It was a rough ride in my HUMVEE! Guess those huge tires (tyres? lol) can soak up huge bumps. The capper was I got to see my 1st C-17 ever do the same landing and T/O on the 2nd and final day of the exercise. I Imagine the HERC is going to do 100 years or so in the US. Ohh, they are also really fun to jump out of as well!
My lasting memory of the Hercules was when a family friend who was an Air Loadmaster got me on a flight during families day at RAF Lyneham, shortly after taking off they lowered the rear ramp with a net accross it for safety and I stood by it and watched in amazement as we flew over Stonehenge, Bath, Bristol and the Severn bridge and various other landmarks, I will miss this iconic aircraft along with the Vulcan which I used to work on as an A-Mech-E at RAF St Athan during major refits.
16/17 years ago I was night fishing down the Teme Valley when 2 of these beasts flew over my head no more than 30 metres above the river. No lights on, utterly spectacular. Respect to the pilots, ground crew and those that travelled in these remarkable work horses.
There will never be another bird like Hercules. She's iconic. God only knows how many people serviced her, flew her, and traveled on one. She not only served in war, but did unheralded humanitarian work as well. Her crews kept her going, often in terrible environmental conditions. She's a tribute to those people. In her own ways, she was beautiful. Tis the end of an era. Daf, your video is a very fitting tribute to this magnificent aircraft. Bravo Zulu.
I live along the loop and they flew over me today. My Dad called me up telling me "The Hercs are retiring! They flew over you" I surprised him with this video! 😄
Always a big deal to watch the 130s. They fly so gracefully & look great doing it. A huge thank you for your service to pilots and all ground crewmen. Marvelous video.
Love this. My nephew (a West Point grad commissioned into the USAF) completed his flight training and received his dream assignment- MC-130J's in Special Op's. I can't wait to talk to him about flying these.
Many thanks for posting such an amazing compilation recording this historic event. Also heartfelt thanks, respect and admiration to the Royal Air Force, the oldest and best Airforce in the World - bar none.
Fantastic video as always, we managed to catch the hercs around 3.03pm today just before they fly over RAF Mildenhall. A shame these beauts are retiring.
Loved my "jollies" on these old birds! Gonna miss that sound. Nothing comparable to the sound of the hercy bird. Beautiful aircraft, long and short. PS - Excellent footage as always, Sir. Thank you 😊
@DafyddPhillips , yeah, they were. Watching the engineer walking the length of the aircraft, banging on pipes with a mallet, was very much a highlight of each flight 😆 😱🤯😂
Excellent fly pass, very befitting of the RAF's work horses for many years. A few of these Hercules C-130s have saved my life a few times during my 24-year career. Some use JADOs and take off on skiies in the Arctic Circle. Casualty Evacuation and emergency flights home at low level for suspected brain tumours, too. R.I.P and Happy Retirement Fat Albert ❤.
The Flightradar24 alert for this caught me TOTALY off guard! I,ve heard NOTHING about ANYONE retiring the "Herk"! I tracked intire flight, figuring they might hit "The Loop" and maybe I could pinpoint where its located on map. Still not sure of location. Also figured there would be video! Well done folks!👍🏿🥂 Oh well, we still have them flying around here!👍🏿
Unfortunately, most of my up close and personal memories of C130's is MAFFS missions here in California putting out forest fires. In my opinion the C130 was the best "do it all" aircraft built. As usual Daf, majestic video and great camera work. You spoil us good sir - Phantom..
I can only imagine it did a great job firefighting over there, big respect! Thanks for watching. I’m still chasing my first phantom low level in Greece for you. One day soon ✈️✈️🤞
I have watched the C130 in america for years, lived near flight path, but had never seen them from an elevated prospective. Great camera work! The sunset still was beautiful. 😢👍
Oh how I love aircraft....excellent video. Very aquainted with the J model. Son in law is a SME for the USAF on these beauties. Traveled around the world to fix problems on them. When he was at Little Rock I got to spend time with the Herc J. What is the RAF going to replace these 3 Hercs with? Again you put a smile on my face....thanks Dafydd.
Love everyone’s personal memory of the herc Scott. The RAF have currently purchased 22 x A400M as it’s replacement. According to the experts the A400 isn’t up to the job currently. Watch this space ! Thanks for watching and being part of my RUclips channel Scott Appreciated
@@DafyddPhillips Regarding Atlas, not only is it not up to scratch, it's cost the taxpayer's a ruddy fortune. I've red that per unit Hercules cost £50 m, with service package, through Marshall's of Cambridge (the only recognized Hercules maintenance in Europe), whilst our Government says that Atlas cost us £120 m each. And that figure sounds suspect when the French say it cost them the equivalent of £150 m. However good Atlas turns out to be, it certainly isn't a bargain.
Fantastic! I remember seeing a mass take off at Lyneham, absolutely spectacular. Such a wonderful aircraft, great to fly in too, especially with the ramp down!
To you Dafydd - Thanks for the memories too! Thank you for chronicling a little bit of aviation history in a remarkable way 👍👋 Oh, and that still shot with the sunset in the background would make a great poster!
Farewell Fat Albert C130 used to enjoy seeing them around the south of UK even got buzzed by a 3 ship on many occasion where I used to live saw them from the train over Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. You will be missed. can't believe that the 400 or whatever is replacing it is such a good idea?
Thanks to the sporting crew of these aircrafts who offered such a fabulous perch for photography to the scores of enthusiasts who had flocked to capture these brilliant shots . Sad to think that these workhorses are being put to pasture- very versatile highlifters who could be depended upon to service in the most difficult situations. Thanks for the fantastic capture Philips.
Very nice footage Daf, 👍👌such a shame we are loosing this more than capable airframe. A sad day indeed but I'm glad I managed to get over to see if for myself 👍🇬🇧✈️
@@DafyddPhillips your welcome Daf, me neither, I hope the crews enjoyed seeing the people that turned out in the Loop in the hundreds to see them off👍🇬🇧✈️

What a trimendous display & enthusiasm of these pilots, l really love these displays, they really do something for me, so A very big thank you to all those who have taken the time to make this wonderful video (keep it up).

Great footage, thanks :) Lots of memories of the Hercules; from standing at the end of the runway behind it as it took off, to standing on the open ramp while in flight. Got to be one of my favourites
Thank you so much for the footage of this iconic aircraft ,Love the touch and go,s on Pembrey Sands.Once again Dafydd you fly high and above other aviation channels.👍❤
Stunning as always, thankyou. Can't believe they've gone. So now there's a capability gap in the transport fleet, no AWAC at all, a maritime fleet not big enough to cope with its taskings and a fighter/strike fleet stretched beyond a joke. What happened to the RAF I served in with such pride????
Goodbye ‘Fat Albert’, you’ll be greatly missed. The skies over Dartmoor won’t seem the same anymore 😢 So sad that we never seem to keep tried and tested equipment in our armed forces; instead rush headlong into new fangled gadgetry in the name of cost and efficiency ❗️
