Would SCAndians ever count a buckler attack to the face as a killing blow? I have been thinking about training in buckler for solo fights, but I don't know the ins and outs of rule differences from Tuchux fighting.
In the SCA a Buckler punch is not allowed. I also play in the EMP where it is allowed. We also do full body targeting and grappling there. As somebody that plays in both organizations, my opinion is that you will get better, faster in the SCA because it is a much deeper pool with many thousands or more people. The skill that you pick up in the SCA can there be used and other organizations with different rules sets. I have also participated in Tuchux tournaments and I did very well. When I started fighting in EMP with less restrictive rules, I was already a good fighter, I just had to adapt to the less restrictive rules, which I did not find too difficult. Especially if you have a brawling mentality to begin with... which I do.
@@medievalswordandshield-bil5631 what is EMP? I haven't heard of it before. I did a few classes of sword and buckle in HEMA, but the fencing masks meant any buckler strike had to be pulled and simply shouted out. I do love the full-speed, full-contact nature of SCA style fighting. The combination of a ruleset that makes it more defensive is a great mix.
EMP is the Empire of Medieval Pursuits. It is an SCA offshoot with less fighting restrictions. Almost no restrictions really, other than armor and weapon standards.
