I love my XD11; it is my favorite manual focus camera. The early MD lenses are generally superb, and the camera itself is a joy to use. I have even tried street photography with a Rokkor 45mm f/2, a combination that is almost as inconspicuous as a rangefinder.
Great video. I own an XD-s (Japan market version with built-in diopter correction), XE-7, X-1 (XK or XM in USA or Europe) , X-570 and SRT102. Honestly, while the XD is the most capable and the most refined, it is the XE-7 that is my favorite. It’s big and heavy, not to mention far less advanced (no shutter priority mode), but there is just something special about it that usually makes it the first camera I reach for.
my dad shot minolta xd7 with 50 mm f1.4, and i use it right now. This camera teaches me a lot and the light meter from the camera system absolutely brilliant considering this camera already more than 40 years ago.
new to film and photography, in general. so far, i like the x700 a lot - it's fun to shoot and feels great, plus i like the ae lock. i love the xd11, but it has no ae lock. the maxxum 9000 arrives on friday and the maxxum 9 will be purchased in august. my canon ae1 is basically dad's old camera. i don't like the canon a1 as much as i thought i would, but it's like the child of the ae1 dad camera that went to college and has more profitable job skills. the olympus om 4 is wonderful. the olympus xa arrives saturday. i basically broke up with my girlfriend, found a new hobby, and can afford it now that i'm single and am saving money.
Regarding the mentioned drawback of not being able to turn it off and the battery issue, somewhere I read that you should switch the XD to the mechanical "O" or "B" mode when you're not using it to save your battery. Not 100% sure if that's true though, but might be worth trying!
I got 5 XD bodies. Four XD7 and one XDs. The one I have used the most stopped working recently, probably because one of the capacitors died. I might try to repair it, I got the repair manual. BTW, the XD also is the first camera to introduce program mode, as in shutter priority mode, the camera will adjust the shutter speed if it cannot compute a correct exposure by adjusting the aperture.
My dad shot minolta and I received an x700 when I graduated. Still running. The thing about minolta is the glass is first rate, has beautiful colour, and is dirt cheap on the used market since when Minolta switched to AF, they changed mounting systems rendering the old glass effectively useless on the new bodies. This makes the prices super cheap . Unlike digital cameras which are all about the body and sensors and menus, the manual focus SLRs from the late 70s and 80s are pretty user friendly so the best bang for buck is not the body but the system with the cheapest high quality glass.

My first camera was a minolta x700. Nice camera and nice lenses (especially the rokkor ones)!

That does not work.

Crossing fingers that you will get it back on tracks!
My bad cap was under the bottom plate near the battery holder. Needed to find a cap small is size for the values to fit , but only 2 wires to solder.

you're absolutely right!
Shhh, wait another year or so to spread the gospel of Minolta, I’m still building my collection of glass!
Hello I like Nikon camera's like FG20 and FM2 or nikormat but I hope to buy a Minolta XD7/11 once with 50mm1.4
It's a brilliant camera and you won't regret it if you buy a technically good one :)
Battery drains? Always store these cameras with the f
Shutter fired before you advance the film
Thanks! I’ll try this and look if the light meter won’t be measuring once the shutter was fired
