You know, when you think about it, it's almost chilling that it's a song about him being trapped in his nostalgia, and all the lyrics were built around inscriptions on memorials.
She's his wife (April Votolato) and she's also the Merchandise girl you'll see at Rocky's shows (at least I saw her doing that once). They've been married over 10 years and live in Seattle with their two children. (Thanks wikipedia! hehe) This is video is one of the best I've seen in years. Fits the song perfectly.
Loved this song for years, but now seeing the video for the first time really has me missing my old Seattle. So much of the scenery in this doesn't even exist anymore...very fitting soundtrack.
My girlfriend showed this song to me 6 years ago and I've been in love with it ever since. Now that she's gone, it means more to me than I intended it to. I won't forget the evenings in our first apartment..
Connor Mooney for real man, this song has a major place in my heart from my first real love and borderline magical time of my young life in the summer or 2006
@@kirkthedayman 2006 was the best year of my life. I was 20 years old and all was right in my life. I had everything. Hard to believe that was 16 years ago
I’ve been listening to this song since I was 18...that was 14 years ago. It makes me well up a bit thinking how big of an impact his music has had on my life. It always makes me happy to see other people loving his music.
I cried and cried to this song on replay after leaving my daughter at college her first year (in of all places, Seattle). The most poetic and beautiful song ever.
I don’t know when I first found this song. I logged into this account for the first time in years and it was saved in my favorites. I haven’t thought of it in god only knows how long but I still knew how to sing it with harmonies. I don’t remember who or what made me feel like this song but the music has stayed with me after all the memories are gone.
April was my manager years ago, at Anthropolgie in the U-Village. As my coworker, i knew her name of course and had already loved Rocky's music but never put it together who she was. She once heard me in the stock room talking about his music to someone else and casually said, "Oh, that's my husband." 😅 She was so sweet and the most fun to be around. I was just a teenager with my first nice job and really looked up to her. Now in my 30s i am going to make sure this song makes the wedding playlist. ❤
I agree, This song is deep and such a poetic way to express the frustration of not being able to let go of the things you loved so your past ruins your future. I think we all understand this feeling.
Filmed in seattle for the most part. Its such a great song, a shame more wont get to experience it. I forget how I stumbled across it. Its local stuff fo me
So glad to see so many people enjoying Rocky's music, he definitely deserves it. My brother got me into him when I was a sophomore like 2006. His lyrics help you get through some tough times :)
Lyrics: Please slow it down There's a secret magic past world that you only notice when you're looking back at it All I wanna do is turn around I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean Because I couldn't let go when the water hit the setting sun Passing white daisies taking turns Close the door walk into the street Catching raindrops on your tongue And for a minute it all stops but it won't last man It's just a passing moment gone Please slow it down There's a secret place that I know where I could dig a grave out and climb underground for good All I want to do is turn around I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean Because I couldn't let go when the water hit the setting sun Passing white daisies taking turns All those evenings on the back deck of our first apartment They meant everything but the wind just carried em off And you can't go back now just a passing moment gone
I went through my pandora likes through my youtube history and couldn't find this song for the longest time until pandora almost skipped it today. Not gonna lie I got too excited to find it again
Going to see this guy play with Matt Pond PA next weekend in Milwaukee. If you want a folk recommendation, check that band out. They make beautiful music.
I was buying a t-shirt at a Rocky show, and Mrs. Votalato was working the merch table. She had to break the news that all they had left was a size medium, but let me take it to the bathroom to try it on. I got a year or two out of it before I was too fat. Solid people, those Votalatos.
I heard this at a restaurant and found the song. Being able to read the lyrics, I was sorely disappointed. A meolody that seemed to tug at the heart is nothing but a dark, depressing song.
Really makes you wish you would've loved the only person who ever treated you right, but you just couldn't get past the whole "being a stupid kid" part. Of course, though, looking back - all anyone ever sees is the good times. This song makes me so homesick for the past, it's unreal.
to me the song itself isnt about anyone leaving anyone, its about nostalgia and how we always think old times gone are better than now, and good times and bad times taking turns passing by in dual day-and-night cycles. white daisies represent good times, the sun setting represents low times, he doesnt want to pass by the good times, he wants to stop and be able to appreciate the daisies all the time, but the sun has set and low times are coming, and going down into the ocean is his sadness for not being able to let go and accept it, its all a metaphor for his pining over old memories but that the cycle will eventually repeat and more will come as the seasons are taking turns. overall i would say its a song about aging, or at his age what its like to realize you are beginning to age
+Ivan Mont Happiness? This song is the DEFINITION of bittersweet. Its all about Nostalgia for being young, and wanting to stay in the beautiful moments of life but being unable to. Nostalgia is literally greek for "pain from returning home"; or sometimes figuratively translated "pain from an old wound". This song gives me knots in my stomach, its beautiful and sweet but overwhelmingly sad at the same time. I'm not arguing, just saying it is powerful in the opposite way to me. We're all entitled to experience it our own way.
The early scenes along the elevated highway - a highway that is doomed because it won't last another earthquake. Tossing rocks on a shoreline where I spent time "looking for agates" with an early love 35 years ago? Ouch. Time moves too fast as you get older.
what does the plaque at 2:16 say? "Won't go sleep on the bottom of the ocean" is what I'm getting? I'm trying to figure out how it's relevant to the lyrics... Dx
I remember I used to listen to this song while I was depressed and now I look back at it with nostalgia and I think that things can really get better
You know, when you think about it, it's almost chilling that it's a song about him being trapped in his nostalgia, and all the lyrics were built around inscriptions on memorials.
Joshua Jansen it’s pretty intelligent
This has to be in my top 5 songs of all time...
I saw Rocky at a cafe in LA years ago. I can still remember the scene in my head. I said hi to him at the end of the night. He was really nice 👍

Growing up near Seattle and watching this guy's shows live when he got big for a while was really a special time.
I sang harmonies to this at the living room show he held at April’s parents house! lol. He invited us to sing along. My favorite moment of the show!
Loved this song for years, but now seeing the video for the first time really has me missing my old Seattle. So much of the scenery in this doesn't even exist anymore...very fitting soundtrack.
Omygoodness. I’m so happy this song exists.

I have listened to this since i was 16.... that was 8 years ago. I still sing along.
Im 18 now, but I swear, I can still feel the nostaliga two years ago when I was sixteen. This song hit pretty well.
Have a nice day!

This is one of my favorite songs ever and it came to me at a time when I had no idea how important it would be in my life; later on I realized it.
Pandora introduced me to Rocky, back in like 2012. If you want to discover new music, let Pandora run
Copy that! Same here, I had Lou Barlow on Pandora and this popped on, I was hooked instantly. 🤘
I discovered rocky votolato in February, He is such an under rated artist. And he's been doing his music since 1999. Which is incredible.
whoever disliked this song...... you are a cruel heartless person and do not deserve the ears that were given to you.
😂😂😂😂agree

Oh i definitely do know that feeling. Can’t find the words to describe it, but this song does a good job.
Always forget what this song is called but think about it every once in awhile and do some digging. Finally saving it
I remember when this album came out. I even got to see him live at Sasquatch in 2006. Good memories.
Love this song so much and wow this video is like a love letter to Seattle. Makes me homesick for the Pacific Northwest. Lovely beyond words.

I looked it up and I can't find if it was ever put into a movie...but I found that it was used in the t.v. show "The O.C.".
Love this song never forgot the lyrics just the name of the artist.
Here I am years later and this is still one of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard.
It's always nice to listen to this song and watch the video.
This song is the soundtrack of my life, i brought it on itunes 3 weeks ago and now its the most played song on my ipod.
Still one of the best videos to one of my favorite songs ever. This, for me, is iconic Americana.
Probably one of my favorite folk songs...
Thank you Rocky Votolato.
So many beautiful and sad memories to this song.

Beautiful song, beautiful scenery, beautiful car, beautiful girl.
This is a song to just get lost in. So beautiful.
Lyrics:
Please slow it down
There's a secret magic past world that you only notice when you're looking back at it
All I wanna do is turn around
I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean
Because I couldn't let go when the water hit the setting sun
Passing white daisies taking turns
Close the door walk into the street
Catching raindrops on your tongue
And for a minute it all stops but it won't last man
It's just a passing moment gone
Please slow it down
There's a secret place that I know where I could dig a grave out and climb underground for good
All I want to do is turn around
I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean
Because I couldn't let go when the water hit the setting sun
Passing white daisies taking turns
All those evenings on the back deck of our first apartment
They meant everything but the wind just carried em off
And you can't go back now just a passing moment gone
Perfect song. It has everything needed to wind down a hard day

Even more nostalgic now that the Alaska Way viaduct is being torn down.

Lol definately about her leaving him. If that kind of thing makes you happy...
But the video is happy, sure that's the point. Pretty sure he was married to his wife anyways during this time
