Thank goodness I finally get how it should work. Hooked up a couple days ago using products you suggested , a single HQST 100 W 12 V Monocrystaline solar panel powers the pump. We live in AZ so we have plenty of sunshine. I know nothing of solar and it was but a click in place. My pump intake and output is kind of frankensteine'd and having to use super glue to bond the "water solar panels" where the hoses connect as they leaked like crazy where they join together. Hopefully will hold it together with out any leakage, any suggestions? ICan you also send the instructions for the intake and output hoses also how you connected to the bilge pump? I had a fun time finding pieces for that and 4 trips to get the items, we live close. Including where to get the pieces. Much appreciated. I wanted to add I had 2 water hoses that I hooked to the pump since that was working fine while I am bonding the other hoses for the solar mats together and the water is coming from the pool at 72-80 degrees at its warmest and pumping in all the time at 89 degrees and the pool water is holding at 80 degrees for much longer, 7ft deep, this is the second day it has been on. Before the pool was not reaching 80 degrees, I know it takes a few days to raise pool temp, it is not enough to heat the pool but it definitely holds the temp longer. Run the pump from 11-4pm. And have gas heater going but in the colder weather it was only holding at 77-78 degrees. This definitely works!!! And it is 1/3 of what it should take to heat the pool. Hoping to add 1 new set every year for the next 3 years. *** UPDATE Those solar panels were leaky I should have just returned them. The pumped worked for about 2 weeks - they did replace it . I just hooked up the new one and it worked wonderfully for about 3 hours - Worst than the first one! I notified them and waiting for their response. OH I see that it was a different brand of pump PUMPLUS it didn't work. I wish I had seen this when the other pump was available I cannot find them anywhere!
Nice video filled with good tips & trix. I'm setting up a solar powered pool heater right now and my goal is 30°C / 86°F in the pool. I'm starting with 250 meters / 820 feet of 20 mm / ¾ inch PEM hose in a flat rooftop setup. A 20V rainwater barrel pump (2,000 liters - 528 gallons / hour) will be connected directly to a solar panel, so it's a completely automatic system controlled and powered by the sun. No sun = no pump = no heating. Since I'm located at 60° latitude in the northern hemisphere, I'll guess it'll be some problems and math to solve along the way, but it'll be fun. Keep up your good work
Questions: 1) Does this method heat the pool at night/does the water the retain the heat to some degree? 2) What are your temps outside when you achieve a degree spike? I’m on the East Coast where it’s 80 and will go down to 70 by the end of October.
No heat at night since the sun has set. 90 degrees F and higher usually in the summer here. The pool is large enough to retain some heat through the night.
Hi there. What’s the hose’s diameter? Did you connect the pump directly to the outlet? The pump is for 12v. And DC current. Do I need to buy a DC source?
bought a home depot spool of drip line 500 ft. nightmare. a jungle of tubing i had to cut my way out of. lots of variables in this project. pump strength - elevation change - maximum optimal tube length.
Read the comments on how to connect the water hose to the mats. Went to Home Depot and couldn't find anything that would work. Is it possible for you to add a picture of the adapter for connecting the hose to the mats? By the way I have an in-ground pool. Thanks, Ken
Man it was impossible to find these, people be selling these pads for $54-$75 each. I was lucky enough to get two 3 packs for $99 each (so 6 pads for $200). Going to order a pond pump from Amazon, but curious if you just used garden hose to hook up the intake and discharge? Also I assume all the fittings/tubes to daisy chain multiple pads together were included in the package? Thanks in advance. Appreciate your video, cuz I was going to go the DIY route and this saved me a sh!t load of time and effort.
im going to get this pump and a 100 foot of black garden hose and put up on my roof and back down to the pool im only trying to heat a 10 foot rubber pool.just hope the pump will pump the water 10 feet up to my roof
Do you run this 24 hours a day or just in the sunlight? Also whats the temp of the water coming out and how long to heat a say a 16x36 inground pool. Thanks for the help
As the sun destroys everything over time. How long will one of these last before needing replacement? I’m just curious really because at that price it doesn’t matter. Thank you 😊
Couple of years maybe? Maybe more given I've folded them up and tucked them away for winter/spring. The only item that had trouble with the sun was a rubber coupler for one of the hoses. Replaced and wrapped with 100 mile an hour tape. :)
Hello, like the idea. I have a 21’ above ground pool. How many mats can I get away with? 1 or 2? Let me know, my pool is about 11, 000 gallons. Thanks, Joe
2 mins in you mentioned the concrete floor is "cooling" the bladder since its black and hotter than the concrete. This is true but if you elevate the pads on a rack, there would be a blanket of air now under the mat which is a lot cooler than the concrete would be. So its actually better to have them on the concrete.
So you don't have the solar heaters hooked up to your pool pump/filter. You are simply taking water out of the pool running it through the solar heaters and putting it back in the pool?
Not sure why so many go with a 12 volt pump when there are inexpensive sump pumps that run directly on 120 volts and already have a garden hose connection, not to mention they could pump UP to a shed roof. The other thing I see is people looking for lots of temp rise out of the solar, when in reality a you can transfer more BTUs by plumbing the collectors in parallel to gain flow rate. (less restriction on the pump will gain GPM flow) It's one of those things where everyone will eventually figure it out if they keep playing with it, so I am only pointing out that the research has already been done if you look around.
Next time I get a chance to hear a pool I’ll for sure try parallel! Seems reasonable. And I went with 12v because putting 110v in the water I might be swimming in made me uneasy :)
Thank you both for the tips.. but can you explain what is meant by “plumbing the collectors in parallel”? Does that mean lay them flat in a straight line?
@@nickmartin8495 ... plumbing in series means the outlet on one collector goes to the inlet on the next in a daisy chain fashion. Plumbing in parallel is tying all of the inlet pipes to one main feed pipe and all of the outlets to another larger pipe for discharge into the pool. If you run a search on google or bing and choose pictures there will be may examples.

No problems with leaks from the mats themselves, just the hardware store adapters I build to convert it to water hose. If they were $100 at the time, I would have gone the black hose route too. :) good luck, safe swimming.

Bought a step down adapter from the hardware store. Take both hoses with you and you can usually find what you need. Good luck! Still summer where you are?
I don't get why people don't just turn their vacuum valve a few degrees open, run one end of the hose into it, and the other end in the pool, with all the solar heat in between those 2 hoses. No need for another pump.

Can you share the connections you used to hook to mats.
This looks like a great idea. The solar mat link, however, does not work. Do you have another link for them?
Excellent video. How do you connect the pump to power? It looks like it does not have a plug, but wires???
12v dc lead that goes to a power supply far away from pool. Would have later added solar panel.

It's interesting to see inflation in action. 54 dollars for these 2 years ago, now they're 110.
Not sure that's it... I just saw someone from the govt. on TV saying there isn't any inflation. So.....?
@@JuliansRandomProject haha....i see what you did there.

So you don't have the solar heaters hooked up to your pool pump/filter. You are simply taking water out of the pool running it through the solar heaters and putting it back in the pool?
Yes. This system requires you have hot sunny days. I don’t see any heating elements being used.

"anderson" plugs then over to e 12v power supply. Search amazon for them and the crimper needed. Or go cheaper and solder wires directly on.

What kind of bladders are these?
So how do you connect it to the pool pump? Or is it simply just a hose sucking water out one end and pouring it back into another end?
simply a hose moving water from one spot to another, separate from the pool's pump.
What was the air temperature?
What state are you located in?
If the pump is only 12 v do you run it of battery ?
12v power supply but next year I'll be experimenting with battery and solar panel to run the pump. It needs 50w to run while the sun is up.
