- In a 20-year career Ewan McGregor has established himself as one of cinema's most versatile actors, as at home in independent film as he is in big budget studio fare. His star-making turn in Dennis Potter's series Lipstick on Your Collar in the early '90s led to celebrated performances in Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, and Moulin Rouge as well as blockbuster success in the Star Wars prequels. For his feature directorial debut, McGregor tasked himself with not just directing an adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Pastoral, but taking on the lead role too. McGregor discusses this ambitious debut, his career and his goals as a director.

What an incredible speaker, artist and film-maker, mad mad respect.
i've never heard anyone talk about directing the way he does, all the directors i've heard talk about it kind of from afar, as if yeah they did this and it's cool so they won't ever like, 'break the magic' behind it. our Ewan is here getting all excited about sound design and the moos of the cows, and that's the best thing ever! i seriously learned so much about the technicality of directing because he really goes into details and it makes watching American Pastoral all the more interesting. i love how passionate he is really!
Ewan. What a beautiful man. Damn.
I bet Ewan could talk for days on all the films hes worked and also his motorbike rides across the world!
MrGuy1492 And I would be more than happy to listen. I love his stories (and his accent and his smile and his laugh and his eyes and his....)!
Nice.... it would be an honour to work with or to be friends with Ewan. He has a beautiful light.
fascinating man with fascinating stories to tell. i'd listen to him dissect his own movies for hours.
EWAN forever...
Class act Ewan.
Love his enthusiasm.
Great favourite. Great actor. Great man. Great to see him on the screen. Great to hear him.
He is SO generous. Always a great interview.
It’s so amazing to see the difference of a star walking in the door.
44:40 i would want to watch that so much, he basically wants to make another trainspotting and i'm all up for it
"you just dropped something" haha.. that one was pretty good :P
When he was talking about thumbnails and the fact that he doesn’t like them, as a concept artist who does thumbnails for films, I went 👁👄👁
But I get where he was coming from 😂, there is people who don’t really give you freedom of creativity or imagination. I always think of thumbnails more like a way of feeling the emotion of the scene in question and also the mood, especially through colours, settings, shapes and dynamics and then an actor can look at it and act and interpret as they like, and what they feel! Not like what’s already there... but yeah sorry for the rent 🙃 Ewan is a fantastic person and a brilliant actor who I am really happy to already have met.
Thank u, TIFF!
10:53 Fresh pose

I'm wondering if the dude with the cap is a screenwriter.
