I own an espada xl and about 40% of why i do is for my collection. The other 60% is use. The only use it gets is use as a mini machete for clearing trails while hiking. But i will say this, i used to be a street food vendor and worked late night/early mornings and carried large amounts of cash. 3 different times several individuals tried to rob me. All i had to do was pull it out. I was never robbed. Even an untrained individual can easily do major damage with this knife. Luckily it never came to that. The size in and of itself is a deterrent.

I have a retro voyager XL 6" and it's a great knife, bought it in 2006-2007 ish. at the time it was £68 and the most ridiculously expensive knife I had ever bought in my life at the time. oh how that has changed, you can add a zero on the end of that price mark now for stuff I'm looking at. I thought to myself, an espada is basically a voyager XL on steroids. Mine is the XHP version and I really like it. Both knives can be pocketed quite nicely in my right side back pocket of jeans.

There's an interesting history to that knife design. "The Manual of the Baratero" deals with the use of knives with that profile in 19th century Spain. There are historic European martial arts practitioners that train to fence with knives like that. I've seen antique Spanish folding knives that are even bigger than the Espada XL. There's obviously little practical use for a knife like that in modern times, but I've used the G10 version as an effective machete for clearing black berry vines.

The Rajah II is a great large folder. Bit of an unsung hero really.
It was the first bigger than usual folder that I'd ever owned, the lockup was and still is incredible, and it has I 4 or 5 grip positions. It's great fucking knife, and you can stab with it because the tip is very easy to index into an effective thrust.
The full Flat V grind is so well suited for this multipurpose knife, it's a grind that is so much stronger than the Hollow grind. It would have worked very well with a Sabre grind with the full Flat V grind for the secondary bevel aswell, but it's just fine the way it is really.
You can see the Kukri inspiration for the design straight away. Great knife.

Where I live half of blue collar workers have the top of a folding knife sticking out of their pocket and a few have a fixed blade. That might look slightly unusual, but not something that would attract much attention.

It may be a cliche, but It's a folding sword, and a very well built one. When I want to feel safe (I don't carry a firearm, not sure If I ever will) I love knives, and I do carry one as emergency self protection (maybe a bad choice, but I know how to handle one in such a capacity) and when I want to feel very safe in a scary place, and also totally prepared for big cutting tasks, I carry my Spartan. This is perhaps a bit less practical, but I would certainly feel safe carrying one, It cuts beautifully, is made of awesome materials, and is built as tough as any folding knife I can think of. Add the amazing price, and you have something that is not for everyone...call it silly, but its engineering and capability are no joke. I respect this knife a great deal.

I used to scoff at all the Cold Steel XL folders as ridiculous Mall Ninja nonsense, this one most of all. But then I figured out that some of them are actually quite effective for gardening, hiking, and camping. As soon as I get a good enough sale on the G-10 version of this one, I'm snagging it to be a super-compact folding machete.

This was one of the funniest knife reviews I've ever seen. I like Spanish Navajas so I have coveted one of these things for several years. This came up and I watched, laughed like hell all the way through it. I have to tell you I have a Cold Steel sword, a friend that was an enthusiast recommended I buy through him when he was going through a divorce. Said there was a sale on seconds, he was placing an order. So I have a Wakashishi or what ever its called. It's like a four foot long razor blade. I used it to trim an arborvitae shrub in front of our house. It's no joke swinging around a four foot razor. It cuts whatever it touches. Watch enough movies ... light sabers takes it to the extreme. You have to be really careful. I have a little Joker Jerenzana that I just love looking at and using. It's almost 10 inches long open, and too heavy to carry around all the time in my pocket. I keep it open on my work table and use it to cut string when I sew leather or open amazon packages. It gives me great pleasure. I think you should use your Espanada to cut meat. Big knives are fun to cook with. I do a cut on pork tenderloins that makes it a long thin strip, tell people its rattlesnake. Thank you for the humor. The AI robot advice at the end was classic.💯💥

I was super confused when you were talking about secretions. Secrete a knife? Surely you'll cut a gland. Then I realized it was to do with the word secret. Not secrete like body fluids. Is that intentional to be funny or just a consequence of the down under dialect? Either way, go with it.

In my state, you can carry a fixed-blade knife "concealed" only if it's a "hunting knife" that's _being carried in that capacity._ "Concealed" means that if you go into a national forest to camp, and you want to use a knife for your campfire/bushcrafting/whatever, and it starts raining, your raincoat will cover your knife and then you will be committing a felony.
While I can't think of a reason why someone would have any real use for carrying a survival/bushcraft knife out and about, this big folding knife can legitimately help someone avoid some of the pathologies that are a necessary byproduct of any system of rules. It takes 144 pages of rules for some slobs to kick a ball around in a field, and even then you still need umpteen refs or umpires to play a game of soccer.

    Though of some other uses
    1. Walking around using a bad american accent of a bad Australian accent saying " thats not a knife, this is a knife".
    2. Hanging it over your fire place in a place of honor like in game of thrones.
    3. Get a rike hummingbird for a lanyard bead to get that little bit extra to hold on to.

I like using my giant folders as utility knives around the house because they make quick work of cardboard, and are usually easier to put up after use than a fixed blade. I tried using the my espada xl, but opening it with your thumb is annoying, and you never know if your thumb is going to slip. I have used some of their other models like the clip point voyager, the 6 inch holdout, the 6inch luzon, and rajah 2 for around the house knives and I found them favorable for the first week I got them, then I usually go back to one of my spyderco's because they lose their edge fairly quickly and I found the steel makes a bigger difference in cutting efficiency than the length of the blade. However, if cold steel made those bigger versions out of better steel instead of budget ones like their old cts-xhp I'd be using them all the time around the house. Unfortunately I was just getting into knives when they stopped producing the bigger knives in xhp :(

I have the XL and the L models of the knife in the S35VN. I have a leather belt carry sheath for the XL. I carry the large model much more because the size is more manageable. If you are wearing loose shorts, the XL will beat the crap out of your thigh if you have to move fast. I typically wear tactical shorts so when I wear those I can carry the XL pretty well in my pocket. I have the AUS10 model as well in XL, that one I will wear in my pocket once in a while with the tactical shorts. The main drawback of the Large model is the small pocket clip.

My personal favorite folding fighter that they make is the Luzon. 6" blade for easy pocket carry and less exposed grip an adversary could grab, wicked sharp and slicey/stabby, very affordable but tough and chipping/snapping resistant blade unsuited for rough service work but great as a weapon, only real problem is the lock, but even that bests many competitors.
I've never owned one of these but above a 6" blade with a handle that doesn't fold in on itself like the benchmade LFK, I see it as either suited as a novelty or as a hard chore knife for those who prefer a folder.
