There is more things into owon. It's pretty much buggy little sh1t. APO can't be turned off unlike you are lucky to turn it off in one out of 40 tries in a row. Upon wakeup, it automatically triggers hold (no matter what you press to wake up). Also turning backlight on/off triggers hold. And some people complained that after time, the rotary switch loses contact and multimeter goes crazy, since the tracks on PCB are shitty.
Got the UnitT 61E (old model) and also one of the Owon B35 series and the 35 series is a better deal as it delivered a feature I was pursuing..the lesser B35series.. it were like 35 US 6 years back.. you really need these few features like higher count and the specific added ranges that goes quite high on B41 series... as the build and board is more or less the same between 35 and 41 series. .. the font is also more pleasant on the 35 series, and bigger and a very responsive bargraph if I recall.. but the Owon' DMMs ace in the hole is the wireless logging and grahing and all that jazz, that I personally needed.. quite nice that you don't need to look at your display, but it just speaks it out in your own native tongue and you can adjust speed and language.. in my case danish. and you got wireless graphing aspect over time and the ablelity to save the data and you can log in multiple meters to have it unfold on the same graph in realtime. was not that normal back in first half of 2015 when these meters saw daylight and at 35 bucks delivered.. also quite a good deal.. just put some decent fuses in it and your preferred silicone leads (like you often do with low end meters now that decent leads are cheap) and call it a day and take it for what it is.. a 35 USD DMM with a not to shabby Bluetooth implementation.. though not that this says a lot, but in regards to the other Bluetooth DMMs and their "app that we have seen over the years".. Owon's is actually not that bad for such a low priced DMM.. but it could be way better and more polished.. mainly the graphing ablelity to adjust to certain ranges' but its an old meter with an old app.. ruclips.net/video/uRRCSw4rZc4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/kv2V65_vpQg/видео.html and nope the "hold" does not activate on 35 series when backlighting it will show "H" but the moment it activates the light it also aut. turn off that "H", and it goes without saying..you get the Owons for its wireless BLE features and being able to stack DMMs on the same screen with graphing and wireless logging over time and wireless vocal feedback. thx for the video
UT61e+ comes with USB port? I been using Fluke for 30 years, now I realize I don't need to spend a lot of money for my test equipment. My Fluke 289 cost Us$1000 dollars some years ago, Us$700 dollars for the meter and Us$300 dollars for the cable and the software. These modern Chinese meters looks good, are well built and cost ten times lower.
Really nice spreadsheet. Thank you for taking the time. Interesting how nobody else on RUclips seems to have noticed the HT118A's continuity being interrupted. Such behavior would've driven me mad.
I also noticed how bad Bside S11 is. The thing is, most youtubers talk only about good things if they "review" device that was given to them for free. Me, I at least try to be as honest as possible. BTW: I have just made a deal about borrowing two made in japan multimeters. Might as well record english review if there would se spare time
@@bekrstechnologies With my budget I'm personally not in the market for Japan-made DMMs, but I'm sure it will be an interesting video, so I'll check it out if you decide to make it. Maybe people will be even more interested in a comparative view against UNI-Ts and the like.
Well I am into more measurement tech, but since recording videos and post processing takes much time, only few videos get to this English channel. There will also be review for one cheap and really neat multimeter, that is perfect as cheap do-everything idiotproof accurate meter for low voltage use. These Japanese ones are more expensive, that's for sure. But they also offer reliability, durability and dependability.
Old Uni-T UT61E is also good, but it's price starts to increase again. I bought it for 50$ two years ago and now it costs for 100$. I think that Chinese knew it's popularity and reliability very well and started to ask for old UT61E more and more bucks.
That depends. If you go for bang for a buck, UT61E+ is the way. If you require quality and sturdiness, DT4256. And if you crave for quality, sturdiness, modern Features, FFT and better indications, DT4261. If I would have to choose one multimeter to use for my entire life, DT4282 would it be.
@@bekrstechnologies Thank you for the prompt reply. I really appreciate it. I was sort of puzzled by the highest total points Uni-t got in your spreadsheet. And that is despite the fact you gave the same number of points (5) to Uni-t for USB when Hioki's are optional 🙂
@@puertola7186 What may be missing in the fantastic spreadsheet is a weight for each criteria? Some criteria might be more important than others. So for that reason the total count might be misleading maybe?
Like Dave Jones said about Uni-T, still good bang for the buck :) Considering upgrading my equipment. Running on UT890D+ and Meratronik V640 (had it since 2007 or so - got many fond memories with it), but when I have the cash, I'll go for Brymen/EEVBlog BM235 or UT61E+, downgrading the 890 to a secondary or tertiary meter, or for field repairs.
I like to go for the black horse products, the new brands with nothing but their quality to prove. For that reason, I checked the UNI-T 61E+ at that famous Chinese shop. It costs 104 Euro. And then who knows what else at the customs etc. Then I shall wait for minimum 12 days for it to arrive from China. When and if it arrives without troubles, I've got no local distributor to repair it within the warranty period. Why would I take all that risk to save 50 euros that I would pay extra for Hioki? It does not really make sense.
UNI-T has been around for quite a while, look it up. UNI-T really has no official distributors, they aren't rellay into that sort of industrial market in Europe/USA. But UNI-T is definitely a good brand, and I have seen them everywhere, including professional electrician's tooboxes, or at university. UNI-T a brand as any other. They even often make products for other brands, like Voltcraft from Conrad, Tenma from Farnell, there is more. And if you buy it from local dealer, he really has to hold your warranty. Only reason I buy UNI-T from aliexpress is the fact that it's much cheaper there. But for example my LCR meter UT622E ain't nowhere to be bought in Europe, so I was forced to spend approx 400 euros on aliexpress, and the LCR meter is still working up to this date.
That depends. UNI-T is in this segment professional grade, so you have all the safety features better met. I would actually go for UT161E, which has better fuses compared to 61E+. The UT161E is also safe to work with on HVAC (230/400V nets). The UT61E+ is only safe for 230V nets. Zoyi is different segment, it provides quality multimeters for DIY ethusiasts, It's nowhere near industrial stuff, but it is the best money can buy for DIY hobby use. Therefore I would go for ZT-225 or ZT-303 (which I own) for home use, and it should be safe around house 230V net.
Would it be a bad idea to replace the AAAs in the UT61E+ with a li-ion battery paired with one of those voltage conversion modules that raises the output voltage to 5v or 6v?
Thank You so much for most comprehensive in depth review . As of May 2024 , I want to buy a accurate entry level DMM for SMD electronic component testing and measuring voltages . I have budget of $ 50 . Though looks stunning high tech sexy I am controlling myself not to go for colour bigger screen but will definately prefer backlight colour lcd . As my knowledge is limited I will prefer both auto /manual mode . I have read that kaiweet , multicomp , aneng , uni-t all are actually OEM products . Can you pls. suggest best suited reliable , sturdy dmm with best build quality . I will have to check whether it is available here in India as well as its not possible to import due to high customs duties. Thank you. Keep it up .My best wishes.
For an 4 1/2 digit multimeter, useable for electronics laboratory work, I suggest the Aneng 870 or the Zoyi 303. You can also rework the used voltage reference and use a better one, down to 0.02% is possible then. Mostly, those used voltage references have better companiens, pin-compatible.
Great review. Thanks for adding the safety aspect in the review

Some low range clamp current meters are very accurate and can detect even 1 mA. For example UNI-T UT210E.

All said; would you go for a Hioki 4256, Hioki 4261 or an Uni-T 61E+?

Well buy ut161e then, it is better variant of 61e+. It has better fuses

And more will come, as I am currently working on comparison of Fluke 87V MAX against Hioki DT4282. 90% of the video is already recorded.

Would it be a bad idea to replace the AAAs in the UT61E+ with a li-ion battery paired with one of those voltage conversion modules that raises the output voltage to 5v or 6v?
That would introduce some noise, which may cause problems with the multimeter.
