- Back in 2001 there was so much going on in the Philly hip hop scene from artists being signed record deals, and others blazing the trail of independence. SPADEO of the legendary group MAJOR FIGGAS was putting out his first solo project entitled INDEPENDENCE DAY. He had collaborated with the FIRM (FAMILY OF INDEPENDENT RECORD MERCHANTS) to distribute the project throughout indy record stores across the US. I had the opportunity to be apart of the project by putting together a video promo that would either go along with the album or be something that they would have playing inside the record stores. If I'm not mistaken, that style of marketing and promotion was called an EPK. Back then the music industry had become big on DVD's or mini documentaries coming along with albums to give the fans an added bonus and close up of their favorite artists. In this interview Spadeo discusses his early rap days, how Major Figgas got their shot, life in the city, positive encouragement for the youth, tips for recording artists, and much more.

This man was 24-25 speaking like this! Very wise. I met Spade about 5-6 yrs ago at another artist mixtape release party in Philly. He was standing alone quietly, when I approached him he was exactly how he said he is. Very appreciative and welcoming. Even gave me some words of encouragement to pass to a friend that is locked up still. Later that same year I seen him in Texas at SXSW and when we saw each other he remembered me and we had a quick laugh like you again! Lol. Spade a genuine dude foreal and I am glad that I crossed paths with him. U
