It's kind of insane how 4 people, Leo Fender, Jim Marshall, Randy Smith, and Mike Soldano, are responsible for defining how a guitar should sound. Literally every other amp maker just re-designs the flagships from those 4 guys. And yes, I'm aware that those 4 also "copied" from each other, but they're literally the only ones to develop their own signature tones. Every other brand takes one of those tones as a platform, and adds features.
Love my Dual Rectifier, Triple Rectifier is pretty hot too but the Dual sounds warmer. Both of them are Volume Monsters coming outta the two 4x12 straight bottom OS Rectifier cabinets! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…!!!!!
Thank you Randall for all your amazing work towards Guitar tone. I appreciate it all but especially the high gain stuff from the Mark Series to the Rectifiers and Triple Crown 👑! I love my Boogies
Great stuff....Randall I saw Lee at the Fillmore East way back when....do you know what I mean....BTW I had a band we called the Prunetones way back then
Think about it, dumble , boogie, Marshall, they all started of of fender amps. Hahahahaha. And many others. The ya had The guys that modded the modded amps renamed. Peavey was the only innovate that went huge that did not rob from others. In the beginning .
I'd almost bet money that Peavey got its tonal recipe from the Thomas Organ Vox stuff and used cheap, Mississippi-made components, but yeh, everyone except Vox started out trying to get more gain out of a Fender, an amp designed to battle distortion to the END! lol Every OD pedal made in the 70s as well, were essentially designed to boost Fender and super clean solid state amps as well. Fascinating...
The godfather of High-Gain! I have had a bunch of Mesa amps (Mark IIB & IV, Caliber 50+, Quad/Triaxis and Rectos). To my ears the sound of Mesa is just solid and magical. Thank you for a great series on the Mesa/Boogie story 🤘
I am thoroughly enthralled with the story so far, Randy. You are quite the storyteller. Please do keep them going. Happy new year! PS: I had nothing but a great experience with my Mesa/Boogie purchases over the years. Calling the office and talking to the most chill CA people ever was always a pleasure. I still have a pristine Fifty/Fifty amp that I keep covered in a pseudo shrine 🙂
Love it! Thanks for sharing! Had a lot of your magic amps during the years. Still have boogie blue angel, 70´s mk1 and 2 boogie mk3´s. Thanks for making such amazing stuff! And happy new year from Norway
These videos are giving me an expanded appreciation for my Mark series and Rectifier amps!! There is an amazing history and evolution and I love the “from the horse’ mouth” account!

I have a fun story of Mike Fortin up in Montreal at Steve's Music Store to buy the "new" Dual Rectifier so he can bring it down to Florida to study the circuit. He was STOKED. The rest is history, I guess.
The man has a great habit of stealing things 😂😂 Since Randall here stole the SLO100 preamp from Soldano, I guess it makes it okay for Fortin to steal it second hand 😂😂😂
@@Starch1b2c3d4aand Fender got his first amp from RCA tube manuals. Everyone stole from RCA then? Well, it was a manufacturer-provided circuit so that their products could be used, same applies to most chips and components, datasheet info is everything.
About to go play a show with one of my Mark series amps. Thanks for this series of videos it is really interesting and I think it is good to capture this sort of information for posterity.
Stormy Monday! You’re absolutely right. His version is freaking beyond killer. I used to play with Frosty Smith, his old drummer that played on all those early records when I was living down in Austin, Texas.
Why aren’t there more amps with a “tube screamer” or overdrive in front and built in to the amp. I believe Driftwood does it and that Peavey Invective also has some kind of boost I believe. I’d love to hear your take on a new amp with a controllable boost built in front.
All the really good Rock Bands working in Clubs in the mid 70's (beyond garage bands but no record deal yet) used Crown DC 300's and most used Voice Of The Theater Cabs. The really loud bands used 2 DC300's or they bi amped and used 4 Voice Of the Theater Cabs. And they really sounded pretty darn good if you were 30-40 feet from the stage or more.
Please keep these videos coming. Your account of all of this history, ENGINEERING HISTORY, is so important.
Absolutely 💯 and I'm loving every second of it ❤️
Tone God of Gods! Thank you for your great legacy, Randall!
Rock and Roll was born with those tones!
A Rick Beato interview?
YES
That would be awesome!
🐝🐝🐝
Obviously! This must happen!
That would be really cool!
Loving this series!
These are the best stories! Thank you for telling them. Greetings from New Mexico!

Stormy Monday is the song I believe. I listened to Lee Michaels albums in the 1970s Great music back then.
Incredibly interesting.
"Gotta turn it up to get my tone!" Guitarists to this day for some reason. 😂
Was the song called Do You know what I mean by Lee Michaels Randal?
Yoda blows up Randall Smith on the cell when an answer is needed.
Why did you have to kick so much ass? Why didn’t you save some ass for the rest of us to kick?
