I spent several years working in Sierra Leone. I am so proud that the region including Liberia are recovering from some of the worst suffering I have ever seen. I am so happy."The whole world must not forget what happened there and do their part to contribute in every way. PEACE!
What happened to Sierra Leone on the first part of their history under the British colony was almost similar to what the Philippines have experienced under the Spanish colonialism for 500 years and in fact onto the Marcos regime (ca 1965-1983), although we now consider our country as a democratic society after the people power revolution in 1986, it's unfortunate that corruption is still visible in our government. I congratulate Sierra Leone for moving along and adore their commitment to make its country a better place to live in, Godspeed!
Hey Gary - an amazing piece on our Mama Salone. Please do reach out. I am currently making a documentary about SL and would love to speak to you about it.
Plenty tenky for your kind comments ~ it is my hope to return before too long and do a follow-up and discuss the progress made thus far. There is much debate about "progress" and whether there has been much, but it mostly depends upon party affiliation, as to one's perspective.
Plenty tenky Mohamed... Of course you are right in your belief that education is a path to the future! Once the people and government of SALONE decide to commit themselves to education then things will slowly change. While poverty and it's resulting effects, such as corruption stays so widespread, education will stay as a low priority unfortunately. Thank you for commenting on my video...I will return to Salone in August to keep looking for a child who was lost during the war a decade ago... I
i went to sierra leone in 2010 , i was overwhelmed how they were picking them selves up , they didnt deserve the war especially the kids ,i saw my first amputee and she was about 11 yo i didint realize this happened when she was a baby till later i thought that was fucked !, but they really dont deserve whats happening now they are subjected to an enemy no one can fight and i think thats even more fucked and definitely dont deserve that , these are awesome people to get to know and they need our help now
you cant let all your men become carpenters and vocational workers, like how is that going to help the country agh its so frustrating they should be pushing for these people to get educated in some form of institution of higher learning or some form of school do you not see that that is the only way our country can become independent compete with the rest of Africa not to talk about the world aggggghhhhhhh Sierra Leone the land that i long to see in a beautiful place our people frustrat me..
emmm its sorta dumb how he was crying about England at the start, but when England left the country went in to war and started killing its own people, and now are crying to England for help
