I had the opportunity to visit Kek Lok Si Temple myself last year sometime. It's an impressive place. There was no one at the funicular ticket counter, so I ended up walking all the way up, all the way around, and then all the way down again. I definitely got some exercise that day. And I remember thinking the same thing about the turtle pond and the signs. It made me laugh to think of "liberating" the turtles, like they were all trying to escape the pond. 🙂
@@TheDetourDuoIf you enjoy islands and mountains, the Borneo portion of your trip to Kota Kinabalu will be more exciting. If you visit Sarawak, travel to Kuching, otherwise, each state is pretty far away.
Fyi, Pad Thai originated from Char Kuey Teow, when Thai Chinese tried Char Kuey Teow in Penang (which is near the Thai southern border) and loved it so much, they came up with their own version. This happened a long long time ago, apparently.
I am afraid that is wishful thinking, it’s not true. Pad Thai may go back to being initally called Kway Teow Pad Thai, where the ‘kway teow’ refers to rice noodles, but it is not derived from or related to Char Kway Teow.
Both of you are so kind and the quality of the video is so good! So glad that it was a great trip with good food. Honestly it had been so hot even for locals here and I'm glad you got to see all the nice places~ Most importantly, Char Kuay Kak, yes, it's definitely too underrated because I love it so much too... Sometimes you get it in this Big Cone shape wrapping and you just eat out of it with chopsticks while on the go 🥰 Sunrise in Tan Jetty is really pretty too . Thank you for coming to Penang and we love you
Thaipusam is an important Hindu festival for the global Tamil community. Malaysia has the biggest celebration in the world, even greater than India and elsewhere. Therefore all communities in Penang are involved. Penang and Kuala Lumpur (Batu Caves) have multiple day celebrations. In Singapore, the celebration is for just one day.
We are going to KL in August for our 15th wedding anniversary and your video is really tempting me to propose we at least come for a night to Georgetown. You are my sort of travellers.
@@TheDetourDuo I'm scared to travel to Muslim countries, but part of me, want to follow you guys and that's why I'm asking...so I knew how to tune mine according to your level ☺️
Oh I see. Um well we have no problem going to Muslim countries and honestly Malaysia is such a melting pot that you can forget. Heavy Indian and Asian influences there as well

We talked about walking to the top. Glad we decided not to. But yeah those turtles are in there plotting an escape. I can tell

Yas! We love to see Malaysia! ❤❤
I wish we would have had time to get over to the east, and see Borneo
@@TheDetourDuo there’s always next time!
That is a fact, and there will be a next time for sure!

I can see why Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si Temple is a must do
Would have been epic with slightly better conditions

oh that's really interesting. Thanks for explaining that. Explains why we like it so much

@@EGO0808 Kuey Teow is a Chinese word. Believe it originated from Penang and spread to Thailand and Singapore.

How fun. If you have the time, definitely make your way to George Town. Different type of vibe than KL
Penang, Ipoh and Malacca is a must to visit when you come to Malaysia and should do a long stay. But in KL a short stay will do.
Huge fan of Sara’s Grand Tour!
We should do this every video!
Yo bro, playing Middle Eastern music for the thaipusam bit is totally not on 😂
Enjoyed the video 👍🏽
Thanks for watching
Thaipusam was in January. Now is April. What a backlog
good observation. yes, that's correct
Finnaly my hometown
It's such a fun place! We came back twice!
4:07 😮 I need arms like those
Just got whip up hundreds of plates of food everyday for a couple years. lol
10:54 that was some DARK coffee 😮
Crazy part is how much butter you put into these coffees. It does taste good surprisingly. Not a combination I would have thought goes well
correction,... Thaipusam is not a HINDU festival, it's Tamil people's festival.
👍
Thanks
great video! sweet and simple
gotta work on the pronunciation though…
Yeah. Happens everywhere, even in the US. Not very good at it and google is often wrong 😅
Damn those kids dance look cute and you barely filmed them.
Haha we always feel weird about filming kids unless they approach the camera or a parent gives the okay. 😅 They were cute though
How did you deal with all that awful heat & humidity?
🙄 Laura loves using that gollum filter all the time
🤣
Are you ever kinda scared or on hi- d? You from up this way so you know what I mean by hi-d
Not so much in SE Asia. Other places yeah. All the time
