      It's probably because Pollini is superb at pedaling.

    So beautifully and wonderfully expressed, with subtleties that are intricately woven. One of the better renditions of this piece, for sure.

    I was born in 1957, just in time to see Rubinstein, Gilels and Ashkenazy still performing on visits to Brighton, and Horowitz and Richter in London.

    Thank you for posting this with the sheet music. I bought Pollini's record when it first came out in I think, 1973. I remember Edward Greenfield's review in The Guardian: " ... Pollini, an artist whose magic hangs by a thread ...". His record of the 24 etudes is one I have played incessantly for nearly 40 years and it still sound 100% fresh, especially this one, my favourite.

    • @cheerilicious
      @cheerilicious 5 лет назад +1

      That's because you probably try to play it like "takatakatakataka" when in fact you should think of the passage as a melodic line which "breaths"! Do not try to lift your fingers all the way up it is impossible!

    • @elliotrocha8758
      @elliotrocha8758 5 лет назад

      Crispy Agreed. I’m still new to piano, but playing a bit more fluent and legato (when the piece is intended to be played that way) is far less tiring.

    The Tokata style of this song is very difficult to bring out the atmosphere. Regato and framing skills are needed, but I don't think it's a problem for Pollini, who has a huge amount of effort and a huge amount of technology.

    How sick do you have to be to be able to play this so fast? I play the piano and organ myself for home use. And quite passable. But if it gets too fast, I lose track of things. for that you have to practice 10 hours every day or something. Something else is sure to fall by the wayside.
