- Organic matter in soil and sediments is the organic fraction derived from living organisms, decomposed and partially decomposed plant and animal residue. As a result of decomposition, inorganic nutrients in plant tissue are released into the soil or bottom sediments and humus is formed. Organic matter is often used as an index of soil fertility. The amount of organic matter varies considerably from less than 1% in recent soils to as much as 90% in bog peat soils.
Depending upon climatic condition and management practices, the level of organic matter in soils generally stabilizes at a certain value. Organic matter serves as the main source of energy and food for microorganisms in soil and sediments. Decomposition of organic matter releases nitrogen which is used by growing plants, and the rate of nitrogen release is used to estimate the nitrogen supply by the soil.
Thank you
Calculation is not clear in this vedio
what is the name of this method ?
Is this method in standard method ?
Is it possible to use this method for bio-slurry instead of soil..
Diphenyl amine is the indicator??
