He was in the uefa team of the year 6 (consecutive) times, the only goalkeeper to ever do that. The uefa team of the year is basically the best 11 in all of Europe in that year. Iniesta was in it 6 times aswell, Ramos 9 times, Messi 12 times and Ronaldo 15 times, those are the top 5. Gotta remember though this award has only been around since 2001

It's the legends that we're before you that inspires you to be a goalie, I mean everybody wants to score but when u see a legend putting it down on goal it's different, it's catchy to the eyes how athletic they be the reflexes they have, how spectacular saves be, they are sometimeslike heroes.. it's beautiful beautiful position.

Before Iker Casillas there was one man everybody considered the best of all times. You wanna learn about Oliver "the Titan" Kahn, too, if you like great goalies. One of the best GKs in history and arguably the best in the 2000's.
A one club legend who played with an unbelievable amount of other greats (Raul, Zidane, Beckham, both Ronaldos, R. Carlos...). A commanding presence in the penalty box, a great shot stopper with the agility of a cat and fearless in one on one duels. He absolutely won everything with Real Madrid and his national team, Spain (FIFA World Cup and European Cup of Nations twice).
GK is the toughest position imo and it demands a great courage since you really put your body on the line and are ready to take a full power shot sometimes at point blank range. As the last line of defense your mistakes will simply cost you a goal.
Yup, was a gold keeper in High school and college, it the toughest position.. being a Goal Keeper you also have to be fearless because some striker have ridiculously powerful kicks and can be scary, you have to put your body on the line especially when going for those 50/50 ball, you have to be able to read the game at a similar level as a midfield, hand eye coordination reflex athleticism, you have to be able read the spin and the ball, predict angles and make split second decision, one of the most difficult balls to save are that bounce just right before you hands and most importantly remain calm at all times.

I used to play goalkeeper most of the time, was pretty good as a forward/striker too. But what makes a person decide they're good as a goalie is being acrobatic, having hops, and being quick with great reflexes and reaction time. It wasn't quick till I was playing penalty shoot out with my older brother & blocked most of his shots that made me realize it was for me

You gotta think with how fast some of these balls come at you, you gotta have crazy strong hands, there's actually so much that goes into being a keeper, you gotta be big but still hella fast with your movements, crazy reactions, perfect positioning in the goal, predicting where the shots gunna go, and the trajectory of the ball even after its been shot with all the curve, spin and movement the ball can make, you also gotta think about where you're pushing the ball and where you're trying to put it after the save even while flying thru the air to try to even get to it, cuz u can make a great save but if the ball bounces straight back down into the middle of the box then its an easy tap in for the striker

What makes you want to be a goalkeeper, a defender or an attacker, it pretty much starts when we are kids and we play on the streets. For example like Mookie said, there are people that get more adrenaline and pleasure on defending and assisting than to score. That happened with me, i always loved to assist and defend and put my body on the line, that's my gamestyle and that's what i like to do, and i always liked if i have the opportunity playing with friends, to do a couple of minutes as a Goal keeper, you get a certain feeling of accomplishment of not letting the opponent score, specially when you do great saves, the ones that everybody thinks that the guy is going to score but you block it! It's really just a mind-set i believe you are born with it. Then there are guys that just love to dribble and score, and hate to defend, they just want to be near the opponents goalkeeper. But rule Nº1 of Street football growing up is... The Fat kid or the youngest kid, is the goal keeper 😂
