Just some informative knowledge on Nam Ghar for the viewers 16:00. Two terms used here in the video "Nam Ghar" exact English Translation is "Nam" - Prayer "Ghar" - House so Nam Ghar is a prayer house and other term is "Pal Nam" - Pal means Group, Nam means prayer so "Pal Nam" - is Group Prayer. Hope now you can connect why Nam Ghar (Prayer House) is needed for Pal Nam(Group Prayer). It is unique creation by Mahapurush Shankar Dev, conceptualize some 500 years back. In Hindu Tradition in greater India there is a worship for everything we see around us starting from Sun, Moon, river , fire and so forth prevalent even today. Imagine the situation 500 years back when pen and paper were not invented, how many puja and ritual people performed. Shankar Dev set a path back then 500 years before, there is no need to do so many prayers and pujas, animal sacrifice and other rituals. Just chant the name of the god Bishnu to get rid of all troubles. Except Assam in rest of the India you will find a statue or deity where worship is performed. In Shankar Dev tradition there is no Puja of any statue or deity, no any animal sacrifice. Inside a Nam Ghar you will only find Sri Sri Bhagawat in a decorated wooden asana. God Bishnu's avatar is mediated and prayers are chanted in praise of the God. Besides, people who performs these activities in Nam Ghar don't wear saffron color dress. Only white color Dhuti and Chadar around upper body. In most Hindu traditions during marriage where the couple takes 7 rounds (Saat Fere) around fire is not done in Shankar Dev Tradition (because any form of Puja is prohibited including fire). Shankar Dev has out lined marriage process also. The religious process started by Shankar Dev is known as Vaishnavism. It is famously said in Vaishnavism - Dhyan in Satya Yog, Yagya in Treta Yog, Puja in Dwapar Yog (where Lord Ram took birth). In its current phase Kali Yog only way to get spiritual liberation is take the name of God, Chant God's Name in Prayers and praise the lord. In North India, you know how many different types of Pujas are performed. Any scholar who wants to study and research further on this subject can visit Assam and get in touch with two famous organizations who are torch bearer for Shankar Dev's Vaishnavism - Ek Sharan Bhagawati Samaj and Shankar Sangh. (Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert in Vaishnavism but do come from a Vaishnav Family. There could be mistake in my presentation about Vaishnavism in Assam. In that case please correct. Just tried to give brief idea about Shankar Dev and Vaishanvism in a limited space)

Namghor is not only a religious place..it is a meeting place of Assamese culture.it is something like Sikh gurdwara. The concept of Namghor was developed by Sri Sri Sankardev, who believe on casteless and classless society. There is no murti puja perform..but we believe in chanting. In namghor all section of people can come and practice our religion as well as culture.infact, the institution of namghor has made Assamese society casteless. And majuli is the place where our cultural and religious thought was developed. Hope Your next visit of sivasagar would be more amazing..
